Point Persons: Leigh Ann Hardie and Shawn Blackneythe highlights were:
the concert on april fool’s day. our friend marty stuart (legend-of-a-mandolin player) came out and played with us on our bluegrass number – ‘i saw the light’. mac (lead singer for third day, the band we’re currently on tour with) was kind enough to join us in our set as well so it made for a romping good time. afterwards we headed to the grand ole opry with marty to hear his wife connie sing. it was amazing. she sang a couple of songs ending with one she introduced as, “a song about my best friend.” she then went into her signature rendition of ‘how great thou art’. you have not lived deeply until you hear connie smith sing that hymn. my eyes flooded over. we met roy clark. (reference xanga entry: . fated i say. fated.) as we were making our exit, all hugs and smiles, marty announced, “boys i have the quote of the night for you. i was talking to merle on the way over and he asked where i was coming from. i said ‘i’m coming from the david crowder band show.’ to which merle responds, ‘well, whoever they are, tell them i say hello.’” so in summary, we played with marty stuart, listened to one of the greatest hymns sung by one of the greatest singers to ever live, and got both a “hello” and a “whoever they are” from THE merle haggard. things were off to a pretty good start.
then it was to the grind. to be honest it wasn’t too bad. except it seems i have a talent for being unable to talk in a proper way as to not fatigue my voice. i’m told by speech therapy friends that i have a “hard glottal attack” which evidently wreaks havoc on chords of the vocal variety. so, if you’ll reference the above gma schedule, my voice was gone by the time we were done with “artist/dj welcoming reception”. (this reception takes place in a very large ballroom and it consists of artists standing in their respected record label areas [all the record labels have an area designated by a vinyl sign and various chest high tables arranged sporadically, in an ‘unordered-order’ in hopes to invite approach] while folks from the radio side of things walk around and say howdy, or make introduction of themselves, or catch up with artists whom they wish to have interaction with. so it is basically a large room full of noise that you must attempt communication in and to do this you must essentially scream at one another.) so by 4pm on sunday my voice was shot. perfect.
it didn’t matter. it made it sound all whiskied out. put a little gravel in it. so things went ok even though i had to baby the vocal chords along. lots of rest, food and water. which meant i couldn’t play around much or hang out with friends and such which is really what makes gma week more than unobjectionable. there’s a lot of stress surrounding this week because every moment you have the potential to show everyone that you in fact have no idea what you are doing. everyone always suspects this to be the case but gma gives you opportunity after opportunity to demonstrate that. the fact that the week also provides an excuse for all of us to be in one place and hang makes the stress element tolerable. i got very little of that this year. i went to no showcases, i heard no bands i’d have hoped to hear, i simply followed the schedule and when i wasn’t on task either slept, ate, or drank water. at one point i asked a friend who is a veterinarian if it was possible to drink too much water. she said, “no. well, yes, but it would have to be like 15 gallons.” then went into something about sodium and the fact that i was eating stuff with salt and that i’d be fine. i was still nervous while i continued to consume what i believed to be dangerously large quantities of the h 2 o.
then the dove awards came. we won three. ‘a collision’, our album, won for rock/contemporary album of the year which was just insane. there was not a molecule in my body that thought this to be a possibility. in our category were some great bands including third day and switchfoot. you can see why this was so unexpected. these two bands alone are monolithic. we are tiny. here’s how the voting works…members of the gma (gospel music association) receive a ballot and they vote. now i know, i know, there are certain questions and issues that arise when addressing awards specified for specific pieces of art. i’m with you, really i am. but i’ve had a lot that has transpired in my brief journey as a recording artist. such as autographs. you know it’s pretty odd to have someone walk up and wish for you to write your name on something so they can retain it. i used to have a diminutive number issues with this and i would proceed to take each encounter as an opportunity to communicate these issues and provoke an alteration to that particular individual’s view of celebrity. i would change the world one person at a time. it would be a revolution. but at some point in one of these exchanges it dawned on me that this act really is an exemplar of the reality that we merely don’t know how to love properly. these folks were merely expressing their appreciation in a manner that has been modeled to them over and over, their actions showing in a broken way, that something as simple as the music that we have composed and assembled has had some effect and meant a bit to them. maybe one day we’ll be able to love properly. until then i will gladly sign anything you’d wish for me to sign. i will smile and say thank you and wonder how in the world simple songs can come to mean so much to us. i view award shows in a similar light. simple affirmation. and besides there’s not an industry out there that doesn’t have a big get together that attempts to some how acknowledge a number of items or individuals who have done a good thing. of course just like every single other thing we humans attempt it comes out all broken and busted up. so when they called our names and all my molecules jumped, i just thought, “oh my gosh, i get to meet pele” yes. THE PELE. THE world’s greatest football (soccer) player was the presenter of our award category. THE MOST FAMOUS ATHLETE ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET. i had an instruction book of his when i was younger that contained tons of pictures with dotted line indicators of leg swings and foot placements and contact points and ball flight trajectories, including his fundamentals and trick shots and such. he hugged me. pele hugged me. i have no idea what i said after that into the microphone accepting our award but i met freakin’ pele! (do you see our damaged, depraved condition here? there is no higher ground…)
but in all seriousness. we wound up being awarded 3 doves. one for our ablum. one for a song from the album. and one for another song that’s not on our album but appears on a compilation cd. we are trying to figure out how this happened and what it all means exactly. probably nothing. or perhaps just that we’ll have to be even more careful about not letting people know that we indeed have no idea what we’re doing.

congrats on your dove awards! God bless
my spring break in nashville was about at the same speed…but i didn’t get any cool awards, only some new cds and band t-shirts.
incredible…simply incredible. You’ll autograph anything though??? You are setting yourself up for that one. :O)
Wow…I was reading it…got past the first paragraph, so the picture…and thought it was over…and then i saw a bunch more words…and i was like, Ah.
congrats on the wins!
congrats on winning those Dove awards! reading your post made me so excited for you and the guys!!! =D
well that’s cool…..
You guys are getting huuuuge. Im glad the “Ghots or Pepper” T-shirts, are now vintage….
congrats on the Doves!
sounds like a crazy week for yalls, but i hope it was a blast nonetheless!
You can’t believe it. Your Collision cd was the beast cd of the year by alot. Have confidence in yourself, but don’t forget the one who gave you the talent.
sounds like fun. :] congradulations on your dove awards. you deserve it.
In Him, danielle
Congratulations!!! That’s awesome that you guys got the rewards…you deserved them! And congrats on meeting Pele too…
I felt funny when I asked for your autograph, but you were so cool when you signed my book, it really meant a lot. Then I notice in the picture next to the dove award and the catsup packet is an autpgraphed picture of Jerry Lee. So how do you feel when you ask for autographs?
nice
clap your hands say yeah- good band, good choice.
congrats guys…
you know why you guys won?
because you guys are my heroes <3

CONGRATULATIONS!
It was a honor to finally meet you at the Radio/Artist reception!
Thanks for signing my book too!
Can’t wait for next year!
dude! you need a condensed version asap!
congratulations.
you deserve it all.
That took me 10 minutes to read all that…
You guys so deserved those awards!! Yay!
HUGE congrats, boys! what a crazy busy week you have all had, but what good fun..! thanks david, for sharing not just your memories, but your thoughts. i guess it must be weird for you guys to have that tinge of “celebrity status” in the christian world.. but you’re right on the autograph thing.. it really is just an awkward way to show our appreciation because the music that dcb has shared with the entire world, distributed in a massive way, has somehow narrowed itself down to impacting single individuals. how can a song that thousads have heard, meet me in such a unique way? well, i guess God can figure that one. =p so there is a sense of wanting to show appreciation, but not only that, but being able to KEEP an autograph from a dcb member is a neat reminder of how that process of mass distribution–> personal impact, has had some significane in journey through life. for example, if i ever get your autograph, i’d probably scrapbook it somewhere so that when i come across it, i’d think.. “oh yeah! that was when i got crowder’s autograph..” then i’ll think, “man, i remember that time when i their song “All I Can Say” was literally all i can say to Jesus.. wow, who woulda thunki it? that a song can do that..”
but yes, i agree that the autograph thing is a bit of a broken way to express this appreciation.. but i guess it’s the same on the other side… i mean, the marketing a business side of it all. there’s so much promotion in the Christian world that sometimes, there enters this sense of trying to sell God. I know that you’re not. But its tough.. cos even when the heart and intentions behind it are all right (just as if i ever meet you and ask for your autograph), it comes off a bit like how the rest of the world does its thing. but in any case, let’s all just try our best to point towards Jesus. =)
steph, vancouver bc, canada
ps, can i get a picture with you?? heh, =D
You guys deserved those awards. That’s so cool how humble you are about it too. I admire you all the most out of any artists, christian or secular. Don’t ever change!
Blessings,
Dan
just cuz you are david crowder… you rock
Congratulations… but I thought Merle Haggard was dead.
This review was right shuny and quite chem.
Steve
Congratulations… but I thought Merle Haggard was dead.
This review was right shiny and quite chem.
Steve
Congrats on the Dove awards and getting to meet freakin Pele! I will admit to being slightly enivious…I wish I could meet Pele…
Keep up the good work.
Colleen
congratulations man. you guys deserve it.
haha, nice. please keep keepin’ on and keepin’ it real
though, that sounded dorky. thanks for posting your thoughts. praise God He affirms us sometimes
Do you think that the attitude of the nominees for the Dove Awards is a little different than it would be for people up for a mainstream award? (Ho boy—there goes my security-guard-who-probably-isn’t-stalking-me. Again. He sure does like to work this end of the mall. Gotta look busy.)
i’ve got to say i admire your stamina for grueling schedules. i mean, getting up at such an un-holy hour of 4 am to do 6 hours of radio interviews is sheer insanity. i got up at 6 this morning to spend 5 hours taking the ACT test and i thought it was difficult. i now stand corrected….
Merle Haggard!
that’s pretty cool
HAHA!!! that’s a pretty crazy scedule
haha. the comment above from the irish man of god is humorous.
you da man crowder.
“wonder how in the world simple songs can come to mean so much to us.”
inspiration is always there. and that is what music is.
congrats!
just to ask, what is the last pic?
yay for the k-love interview! you probably met my brother, zach – jon & sherry’s morning show producer. how fun! but what a busy week!
isn’t that funny how we feel so uncertain of what we’re doing at times, and yet we have an army of supporters. and we’re doing exactly what God wants us to… huh. sounds like a familiar old testament story involving some guy named moses.
thanks for being willing to keep doing what you’re doing, even though i’m sure the cost is high at times. God’s using you!
Clap your hands say yeah sings a song about Satan saying to dance…
*insert snarky comment about ruining your witness/what in tarnation are you thinking/secular music = death*
tis good music indeed : ) keep on rockin
Thanks so much for leading me to worship last night in Florence. Some friends and I drove from Greenville to see you (a good pick for your next trip to SC) Your book has been a great tool for me since Passion06, I have shared it with many people, including my pastor. I pray that God uses you and the DC*B mightily during the duration of your tour!
Ahh, GMA week. Unlike you, I did not have a schedule and did get to 2 different showcases. Got to see Phil Keggy rock on with his bad self (one word — WOW!). Tuesday I went to the essential records showcase, enjoyed a little bit ‘o rock. My highlight, though, was spending some quality time with my brother and sister-in-law, whom I do not see often enough.
Take 2 asprins and call me in the morning. Congradulations!!!!!
Congratulations on the awards!! I don’t have the time or the energy to read all this but I will later.
how come the ketchup packet is just as centered as the award?
lol ya u guys own switchfoot and third day, yet i admire ur humbleness.
i said when i got that album that it would win a dove!!
best album i’ve ever heard ……well deserved
Next time you see Pele, hug him for me. Say: “The Goat says hi.”
The Goat
I was at your show April 1 and it was wonderful- I’m a big fan of your music and your concerts. Congrats on the awards, I’m glad you won them!
Congradulations on the dove award.
Woooohooo. Congratulations!!! Glad to see the humility posted above.
I went to a conference where your friend Tom Grassano spoke tonight. He’s pretty cool…not to mention an awesome speaker.
David, you make me happy.

yes.
the end.
i love ‘a collision’ and it deserved best contemp album. and you know what ur doing, u just don’t want to admit it. i also got the passion video off itunes and the live tracks rock. and praise habit is awesome too. just everything about david crowder band
ROCKS THE NATION
Props! Check back with me!
You guys were in Nashville for a whole week, and I didn’t have a chance to see y’all at all. That sucks.
So..I guess that means you will have to come back again? Maybe headline?
That would be astounding.
that is soo awesome and it was an awesome concert last night.
Congratualations on winning the awards.
I think it’s clear that God is blessing your band’s ministry. While we’re on the topic of your music, I really do appreciate how your write your songs. To me, the music seems like a fresh wind of quality lyrics that all seem to connect with feelings and thoughts that I’ve had, but can’t seem to put them to words and melody like you guys do! So I pray that God continues to bring you new fresh songs that reveal a little more about God’s heart and how His power changes our lives. (A Beautiful Collision)
Hopefully some day I’ll be able to see you guys live!
How are things going back at your home church? I heard about your Pastor’s passing, and I just wanted to know how the church is holding together.
God is Good, young David…
congrats!
its so cool to do ramdon things to break up the
monotony ,such things as asking about drinking to much water or if its possable to die from drinking to much coca cola and the answer to that is yes it is, i believe the number is 99 cokes ,and i like fuji water too,i get the 6 pack of it from wal mart, and congrats on winning the dove awards, you guys deserve it for sure,im still hopeing you guys release another live worship cd that would so rock, well injoy your time of blessing ,you are a jedi for sure bro-christopher a.k.a butterfield__inc
really?
Nice ketchup packet…
wow, congratulations on the awards. i feel like i’m being redundant after all the other comments. can’t say i’m surprised. my best friend and i saw you guys at willow creek at the youth ministry conference and you have been our heroes ever since. we less than three you, can’t stop listening to the cd. i think the reason is because you don’t portray yourself as some cold fake celebrity; you’re real like all the rest of us. keep it up.

congrates…sigh wish i was there
The beauty of not knowing what you are doing is that you can be sure. . .God knows what HE is doing!! Keep praising my brother!
well.. I hope you continue to have no clue what you’re doing because I’m liking it so far…
Turkish Delight rocks my face off (not so much rocks it off, but makes me smile so much that it eventually goes numb and I can’t decide whether it’s still there or if it did indeed fall off). But Turkish Delight is one of my Narnia favorites and I was very happy that CD won “Special… (you know the rest). Anyway.. have a nice day!
what about BROOKLYN, NY!! didnt nashville have like a hurricane or something??
congraaaaaaaaatulations! so so exciting!
im proud of ya’ll. fo sho.
blessings to you and yours…
Congratulations on the Dove Awards!! Thats so awesome!
I love the fact that you’ve taken a picture of your Dove Award next to a ketchup packet. Classic:) P.S. Glad to hear that you got to meet up with Marty again. Hopefully it was another “divine moment” for y’all.
By the way, I say next year you go to at least one show you want to attend. It’s only fair.
Also, I meant to mention that yesterday Tom Grassano was trying to convert a doctor who’s probably in his fifties or sixties over to your music from some group whose name I can’t remember. It was quite amusing. I hope he “converts;” that’d be awesome.

congratulations! I’m so happy you guys won 3 awards! That’s amazing~
All I Can Say has been good for my soul this week.
Thank you, and congratulations on winning 3 awards. You guys deserve it.
Hey David~ I had nodules on my vocal chords and then the surgery, and then a year of speech therapy… and the most damage you can do to your vocal chords in speaking (and singing!) is putting a hard edge on your vowells. It’s hard to explain, but, when you say words that begin with vowells with a hard edge, your vocal chords clang together and that creates nodules. Try whispering the letters and feel the hard edge: a, e, i, or o; it almost makes a clicking sound in your throat. Instead of putting a hard, sharp edge on words that start with those letters, simply put a soft “h” in front of them… so instead of “apple” with a hard edge, you have “happle”. Once you get used to it, it’s imperceptible to people listening to you. All that it does is sends a rush of air through your vocal chords before you get to the hard vowell sound. And that, my friend, once it becomes a habit, saves your vocal chords! Like I said, this is really hard to explain in writing, so if you want to call me….I could explain it over the phone… and this isn’t some crazed fan trying to get you on the phone… it’s purely out of concern for your vocal chords!
Really! Anyway, hope this helps… love you guys- congratulations on your awards!
I’m glad you do interviews and concerts with KTIS and Northwestern College. It is my family’s lifeblood, hehe
Sounds like an absolutely wonderful, chaotic, exciting, full of surprises, amazing sort of time…many blessings to you and congratulations!
Cathi

;asdfjas;difhaweg.

Congrats on the rock/contemporary album of the year. It’s truely deserving of it. You may think you’re smaller time than Third Day and Switchfoot, but honestly, A Collision has more substance and musical depth than probably all their albums combined IMO. Your music is an incredible blessing to me. Thanks for being faithful.
Hey there…I saw you that Sunday night at the Ryman and was incredibly blessed by the worship. I just thought I’d let you know that when you were singing “Undignified” I actually saw an older woman with an oxygen tank stand up and bounce up and down. It was incredible! That night was truly an awesome performance/worship experience. Thanks for blessing us with your music!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! and yes this is DCB for the person above me!!!
your album,3+4=7 deserved the dove award. it is amazing. you guys rock!
`Zen`
i was an event staff at the gma’s. i was at the doves as a seat filler too. oh. and the morning after the doves.. i sorta ate breakfast with your parents at the quality inn.. more like.. they sat a table away from me with me overhearing them telling some strangers how their son won some dove awards then me going hey i was there i know him! they were so proud of you. i feel them.
the end.
Congratulations on the Doves – we’ve all known all along that God was blessing us through your songs! Which by the way, here from the middle of IA – finally got to hear (again) “Everything Glorious” (and waved our signs while doing it! hehe!). Dave loved the song (I gave him the CD) and has agreed to be an adult leader with our high school youth up to Sonshine Music Festival this summer – so we’ll see ya in MN in July – when Dave will be able to hear the live version of “Everything Glorious”
! Thanks for your kingdom presence in this world – To God be the Glory!
You can drink too much water. It won’t kill you, but it can make you sick. Has to do with stomach acid levels.
Anyway
Next time, drink things like Gatorade – not in large quantities – maybe just a bit more than your normal fluid intake.
Chew gum. Keeps the saliva flowing past the chords. A good thing.
Eat stuff like cantaloupe, watermelon, honeydew mellon – stuff with a high water content. Lube for the chords.
Salt is good, but not to excess. All things in moderation.
A little milk once in a while should help as well – keeps that mucosa perculating.
Need a medic for your tour?
I can’t imagine what that Grand Ole Oprey experience must have been like, but you probably though you had been raptured up!
I told you to get readly for worldwide fame with ‘Collision’. You heard it here first. You guys deserved it. Praise God.
I hope to get to see you someday in concert.
L,r
it was great to meet up with you at the EMI press breakfast… (i was reppin CMCentral.com)…
peace… love… bdg…
Crowder, wzup man?? Pesach is here. This is the Groove Jedi again. Yeah I’m kinda dissappointed about camp hortie and all, but i understand my friend. But hay i have had this question for like one year. I want to know what was said to you in your chest?? The same thing that was said to make the rose unfold. my email is thesixthman@tmail.com. or thepriest112@yahoo.com . Congrats on the doves descending, oyh how pue and white and glorious, appreciation is. Til we meet, just remember how often i have longed to gather your children like a hen gathers her chicks under her wings but you were not willing….i just wanna drink the forth cup-the cup of praise.
i just want to thank ya’ll (yes im a texan)for everything that ya’ll do and what God does through your music. and thats pretty sweet that you got to meet pele. im a big soccer player and i would probably would’ve passed out. have a nice day-zeke
Yaay congrats!! When are you guys coming to LA again? Or do I need to use my vacation days and fly to the east, cause I will do it to watch ya’ll again in concert.
Good Job Guys!!! your silly davi!!! did you get your voice back???…..
wow. very deep, that part about autographs. quite profound. you are a very deep man, mr. crowder. know that your thought processes are appreciated.
Hey that’s awesome! i wrote that schedule!

Amazing. I don’t know how you kept such a busy schedule.
deprived we are on how to love.. i did the same thing when i met you haha..
