  • =(
    I can’t read.

  • this will be wonderful.

  • Some times I wish I knew what mice are thinking when they get caught in mouse traps… But what i’d really like to know is what the ones that manage to set the trap off without getting caught in it are thinking as they run away with a free piece of cheese… Do they do this repeatedly knowing that tomorrow night there’s going to be another piece of cheese to steal or are they unaware of the reality of what is really going on… Do they not know that this instrument is trying to kill them? Or do they know, but they just like a thrill, kind of like a dare-devil that likes to sky dive and bungee jump… To know what animals are thinking at any given moment would probably actually a lot more useful than people realize…

  • NUMBER SIX! and by the way…few posts back…i love velvet elvis!

  • yea that is pretty incredible, i got 10 bucks that says u won’t answer this question but, when is a new cd going to come out?

  • I just bought your book… but only because I could never find it at Half-Price Books (where I usually get my reading material).

Must be good, if no one wants to part ways with it.

  • There are two good things that came from Waco: Dr. Pepper and David Crowder Band. Thanks for being an inspiration.

  • ROFL!

hey david, you HAVE to see this. they took the line rider thing to the farthest extreme i’ve ever seen. ever.

    and i mean ever.

    i’m in shock.

  • I’m still reading. The dual format makes my eyes hurt, so I’m making margin notes as I go and I’ll use them in my review. I’m a Scotswoman (Scot-Irish, actually) – I may have mentioned this before – so I’m paying close attention to your bluegrass reflections.

  • chicago bears! whoooo!

  • Anxiously awaiting the sticker update……

  • i bought your book for my dad for Christmas. it was a big hit.

  • Okay, unfortunately I don’t have an Amazon account, so I can’t post my review of the book.  I actually did write a review of the book for my blog a few months ago.  I’ve pasted it below, in case you’d like to post it to Amazon on my behalf.

And if you remember the picture magnet you received in Greensboro, NC (with the member of the David Crowder Hair Toucher Society) – that’s me!  :)

    Anyhoo.  Here’s my review:

“Most times, at least in my opinion, a book’s title only implies what might lie within its covers. With David Crowder’s latest (and hopefully not his last) book, what you see is what you get. Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven, but Nobody Wants to Die or (the eschatology of bluegrass) – how much more descriptive can you get than that? And it’s spot on. With that many words, it should be. ;)

Prompted by the death of their close friend Kyle Lake, David Crowder, along with bandmate, friend and co-author Mike Hogan, explore the existence, the meaning and the destiny of the human soul…and bluegrass. Seriously. Have you seen David Crowder*Band in concert? The bluegrass portion is extraordinary; a rip-roarin’ good time! I happen to be a fan of the bluegrass – not necessarily the twangy types (as in days of yore), but Alison Krauss & Union Station, Mark O’Connor, Bela Fleck? Love ‘em! Nothing like a good instrumental. Play banjo! play! I digress…

Why bluegrass? “There is an eschatology to bluegrass music that holds both suffering and hope. Both are inherent and necessary items within it.” (p. 9) Kinda like life I guess.

Now if you’ve seen David Crowder in concert, or read his first book, Praise Habit: Finding God in Sushi and Sunsets, you are aware of his … uniqueness. I love the way he talks and writes. For people who don’t like alot of words, and a few sizeable ones thrown in here and there, they might consider his writing “fluffy;” his words, superfluous. Whatever floats your boat. I like it tremendously, myself. And the zany footnotes? Stellar!

I really can’t think of anyone else I’d rather have write a book on such a heavy topic as death – and it can be a heavy topic – than David Crowder. Call me weird, but his style of writing made reading the book pleasurable. I even chuckled – and laughed aloud occasionally – throughout; all at appropriate times, mind you.

The book is even structured in a unique way. Seven Parts, which are further divided into the following chapters: History of the Soul or [insert clever subtitle here], History of Bluegrass or [insert another clever subtitle here, the man likes his subtitles!], and then there are the columns (these are rather puzzling, might I say). There are IMs between David and Hogan that offer a little behind the scenes. It’s kind of like the outtakes at the end of a movie or something, only the IMs are at the end of every “History of the Soul” chapter. The columns? Just go see for yourself. It’s just too difficult to try and explain here.

Bottom line: Would I recommend this book? Yes.1
    __________________________
1 Footnote (in keeping with all things Crowder): Do I hope David Crowder writes more books in the future? Yes.”

    Thanks,
    Karla  :)

  • I started reading the book you and Mike wrote. I also read your iTunes playlist (which I really enjoyed), but I have a question. Do you talk like that to your wife. I don’t know you so if I’m saying something useless I’m sorry, but when I read your stuff it sounds a little self-uh I don’t know. You know? maybe a little self-absorbed, but I feel kinda stupid saying this because I don’t know you. I could absolutely be totally off. But really, have a good day :)

  • I read the book in one sitting. I then blogged about it and told everyone I wished it got down on its knees and proposed to me. Since I’m already married, and not that kind of a girl, I’d hasten to decline. BUT, it’s a really great book!

  • Yeah wow… I’m really sorry about that. I don’t know you and I am a jerk and the fact that this is through a computer makes this apology much worse. So for all of that I am sorry. Grace needed – David

  • you went to Isn’t She Beautiful? how was it?

  • DAVID CROWDER!! im confused about the columns did you make them up? are they symbolic and have some deep meaning? i need to know me and my friend have been searching for the answer!

  • The thing that made this book so good to me was the candid and unique approach you used to share your own experiences.  The IMs, although I know they were funny too, really got to me.  I found myself actually relieved to read your thoughts.  Having had similar thoughts myself, maybe it means I’m not broken.  What’s wrong with me that I can’t remember the sound of their voice already?

Anyway, thanks for pouring yourselfs out in such a vulnerable way.  Although I already enjoyed B Collision, reading this book just made it all the more soothing.
