  • squirrels part 1

we had a video release on msn.com a while back. it was our first official video ever. we’ll be getting it up on myspace and our main site soon but i wanted to give a little background first. so by way of introduction i wanted to present a few background pieces:

first, the following bit of video has been hidden on our main website since the release of our last full length recording “a collision.” we typically hide a link or two somewhere (typically in the liner notes) so as to help the time pass for those whom boredom finds easily. (a side: my mind just wandered, “hmm.. synonym for ‘boredom?’”)

the following video, which we’ll call part 1 in our 3 part series, is one of those little hidden nuggets of goodness. this one we call “goodreader3″ as it required you to read the liner notes from “a collision” astutely to stumble onto it and was the third installment of the goodreader series.

ok. enough. please enjoy the following visual and aural stimulation as the metastory unfolds:

    part 2 and 3 to follow…

  • you’re kind of weird.

  • thanks for making my day. that was funny!!

  • hahah yeah i saw this! its hilarious!

  • musictowakeyou – yep. you may have a point.

  • How do you feel about mushrooms? Pray thee tell …

By the way, I’m thoroughly convinced you need to do a cover, and hide it in a link or as a hidden track on Remedy, “I’ve got the joy, joy, joy down in my heart …” if there is ever a song to lay down the bluegrass funk, it’s this.

  • haaa! i too have experienced a mad squirel on the golf course

  • haha wow…never thought squirrels would do that. can’t wait for part 2!

  • Wow, that is one the greatest stories I’ve ever heard.  I can’t believe it’s true! I want to hear a squirrel chuckle!

  • that is quite the story…

  • So, your music video was based on a true story? That’s awesome//hilarious.

  •  a squirrel once came up onto our porch and farted …. then he smiled ……. he smiled that kinda smile that SHANE used to smile . My friend looked at me and blamed me for that fart ! But i will say to my dieing day , that it was that evil little SHANE SMILEN squirrelly dude !

  • Can i get a woo-ha DC ?

  • what happened to the red bird video? i was trying to find it the other day and i couldn’t find it. that was such a cool story.

  • I heard you tell this story at a concert, I love it.

  • I was reading this1 May note – and lost track of time and the subject -must have got bored……   CLKnowles

  • “you’re kind of weird.

My response: woah woah! David Crowder is the most amazing human being on the face of the earth!

    God Bless you brother.

  • “They lure you in with their cuteness”

Truer words are rarely spoken. Theirs squirrels all over my campus and I can sense them plotting tricky schemes as I walk past.

As a side note, you should check out Invisible Children’s website, I dont know if you heard about the event this past weekend, but they held a rally in 15 cities across the nation called “Displace Me”. Just go to http://www.invisiblechildren.com and click around. God is at work in that organization.

    Have a blessed week,
    -Brady

  • ok so have you ever been to LSU’s campus?  there is a ridiculously large squirrel population and the student body feels they are out to get us.  they do crazy things man.  maybe its something in the southern water?

  • You told that EXACT story 2yrs ago in Elkhart Indiana, because I didnt stop laughing for about 2days after. I think the picture of my friends is still up on your website from that tour (they’re the guys who had you sign the Dr. Pepper cans haha). I’ve never looked at squirrels the same again. There’s one here at my school that always dashes in front of my bike near the chapel and has caused me near-fatal-crashes at least twice…..
    All that to say.
    Good story.

  • I bought the DCB squirrel shirt… and now I realize I would have paid hundreds of more dollars for it after hearing that story.

    God bless,
    ~Scott

  • Man… you should see a good ol’ south Floirda squirrel vs. iguana fight. We put on some popcorn and invite the neighbors!

  • I named two squirrels around my house – one gray squirrel that has streaks of red, I call Chowder (for D. Crowder); and the other one, who is a pure black squirrel (rare color in squirrels), I call – Hoagie ( for M. Hogan) – how’s that for up and personal.  I don’t quite understand why all the squirrels tend to gather close to the window when I am playing dc*b music – but hey, maybe word is spreading, among the squirrel community, about the music video you made about them…… Could be those squirrels in Texas, from YOUR Backyard, spreading the news by word-of-mouth – It Could Happen – It Could Happen !!!!!  I already congrats you on 26 April in your guestbook for your Dove Award for the Special Event Album (one step ahead I am) -what a great group of artists that gather for the Passion Conference. The way things are going – you should just tell your friend Chris Tomlin to bring a U-Haul truck to carry his DOVE Awards after each Awards show – Just Joking.  He is an amazing artist – but I digress from the squirrel issue.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see the DC*B letters scrawled in the dirt, in a big circle with a ”X” through it, scratch letters made by little claws, by the trees in my backyard – it’s the music video – they know, they know…….  Shine on…  C.L. • thanks for that bit of information lol

  • lol, we watched this video in youth group some time last year. it was amazing.

  • I wanted to stop…. I really did… I knew I was wasting my time… but I couldn’t, I just couldn’t. and before I knew it, you had gotten the best of me… I had found my self at the end.

  • Now that is a funny story…it’s Tom and Jerry esk…

  • i half-expected to hear something about stepping on a garden rake only to meet the handle of said garden rake at high velocities. sadly, this didn’t happen.

synonyms for boredom (which is what i look for when i’m bored): apathy, detachement, doldrums, dullness, (my personal favorite) ennui, flatness, incuriousity, indifference, sadly, though, not insomnia, moving on. . . , irksomeness, jadedness, lassitude, lethargy, listlessness, monotony, pococurantism, sameness, tediousness, tedium, tiresome, unconcern, weariness, world-weariness, and yawn.

  • i love you crowder. i watched this video along time ago, but watching it again has completely made my day.

  • david, please don’t stop wearing pants – chip and dale are really good at heart! if you begin to sing like donald duck we shall not be able to understand you!

  • this made me laugh hysterically when i first saw it… you are afunny one mr crowder

  • was the squirrel thing part of that? Oh and also are you out of tickets for the 930 club? I’m not sure because it doesn’t say sold out nor tickets will be on sale may 2nd, so I wasn’t sure what was up with that. Oh and thank you for “Sunsets and Sushi,” I love the concept of being perpetually in praise of God. ^_^

  • Hey I heard this before haha. I know that that music video is a true story.

  • haha hilarious! =)

  • and i had to read the liners to find goodreader3…
    nice david.

  • That just made my night.

  • I am a good reader, and thus saw this video a long time ago. It was grand, still is. Thanks for the laugh during my university’s final week. =D

  • dang, i sooo agree with you. squirrels are evil
every time i’m walking in campus, i get freaked out by these lil rodents
sometimes, i really think they are hiding behind trees just to scare us
sounds mean, but i wanna grab it’s tail and throw it up up in the air.

  • ahhh, THAT explains your music video for “Foreverandever etc.”
i can’t wait to meet you in person in NY. =)

  • “(a side: my mind just wandered, “hmm.. synonym for ‘boredom?’”)”  I think you have it wrong… that’s a synonym for ADD.  LOL

Funny video.  Squirrels are evil, huh?

By the way, what’s a real a tor? hahaha

Seriously, I love your zany sense of humor, although it’s a bit funny to say seriously when talking about humor, isn’t it?

  • dude you own DP house?!

    THats crazy tite!

  • from others’ comments, i have been inspired – i just wanted to let you all know how much my husband and i enjoy your creativity – from hidden links on a website to beautiful lyrics which help to make come alive for this generation the gospel of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. We so enjoy the david crowder band that we have purchased pre-sale tickets for the raleigh NC show – i hope you all enjoy the raleigh memorial auditorium, and if you have a chance, the restaurants humble pie on harrington street (this restaurant is opened pretty late ) or the rockford on glenwood (it’s through the door and up the stairs) – and if for any reason you should need a thing or we can make your stay more comfortable and enjoyable while y’all are in raleigh, please let tyler and me (rachel) know. much love – tyler and rachel

  • I can’t agree more! I tried to feed a “precious little woodland creature” at the grand canyon once and do you know what he did to me? Bit a hole in my finger. That little nut eating, fluffy tailed, buggy eyed, annoyingly cute tree-rat but a HOLE in my finger. Lesson learned.

  • My music “minister” thrust a copy of your “music” onto my Organ last week. I had to see what sort of man is infiltrating the dignity of my noble art and the sanctuary of my great organ beast and my assumptions where near spot-on. You are a strange man with strange hair writing in a font so small that will no doubt cause at least one of your Kool-Aid-drinkers a brain tumor. However, I found your squirrel story quite amusing and have had similar experiences with a nasty old grey in my mother’s back yard.

  • no, really… this is all true. i live like 5 minutes from you, and out my back window, they LAUGH every morning.. it is so bizarre and wakes me up. i am thinking about buying a gun.

  • you think squirrels are evil? try flying squirrels! they’re just hanging out in the trees and you think, “oh, look at that. a squirrel just hanging out in the trees.” and the next thing you know you’ve got a little rodent gliding right into your face! AAH!

  • I watched the video for “foreverandever etc.” on the YLO Music Video Loop. It made me very happy :) . It’s been a crap day, so I just wanted you to know that your video made some small church youth leader very happy on a bummer of a day :) .

  • Page 32 of Jim and Casper Go to Church (it’s a book), they’re singing your song.  Check it out.

  • that’s pretty funny. Don’t you sell t-shirts with a squirrel on them?

  • wow that was amazing… !!

  • wow, that was amazing…!! Ps, i am trying to by tickets for your concert right now and it isn’t working! i hope it figures something out b/c i want to come!!

  • mmm…

i had a similar experience with a walrus and a basketball.

luckily, the basketball was wet from all the poolside hoops the walrus was shooting, and it slipped out of his hands… err… fins… to hit the deck furniture.

unlucky for me, it was the furniture that we had just finished relaminating and the ball bounced and broke a kitchen window.

luckily there were no shards of glass in the dinner.

    luckily.

  • You bet, flying squirrels – Holy Cow – talk about things that cause nightmares. They look like little bats when they glide through the air -it is creepy, creepy…..  Just to add one more note – There are approximately 250 different categories(breeds) of squirrels, including flying squirrels(from an Animal Planet Network program) - translated 250 different tribes of squirrels making up the Squirrel Nation -that sure is a lot of nuts that could be thrown at the dc*b by little paws - Just a thought…….     C.L. Knowles

  • that sheds light for the video. =)  Thanks for sharing.

  • When I first acquired A Collision I found the link for the video on the liner, but I couldn’t make it work at the time. I soon forgot about it as one does in the busy world we live in. What a cool surprise now…Just want to say thanks for being so giving to the people who listen to your music.

  • ahahaaaaa i saw that video too! that’s so hilarious it was real life. squirrels are so cute though!

  • I just saw you guys last night at Thirsty 07….thanks for rocking my face off during worship….

  • david, this is pure genius. though, i have to wonder… were squirrels a product of the fall? or did they exist as pure beings before then? do you believe that your movement of his food he worked so hard to retrieve was the reason for his vengeful spirit?

  • by the way… if squirrels are evil, then it so goes that the 99.1fm people were therefore inspired by evil for their squirrel caper. i knew they were all shady.

  • Hey David. I just met you at Thirsty and we took a really cool pic together (the deep thinking pic). I put it on my xanga. Really looking forward to the next CD and how God is going to use you big time. By the way, great squirrel story.

  • will we be in jubilee sometime soon????

i remember that day… the day i felt jubilee…. oh the grandeur… the massive joy felt…

    YES YES YES… JUBILEE…

  • I’m related to the guy who actually invented Dr. Pepper. He sold the patent to the guy whose house you live in now.

  • You have taken a load off my shoulders. When I was learning to drive, I accidentally ran over a squirrel, and I couldn’t forgive myself. But now that I know that I was only aiding in the removal of a menace to the human race, I feel much better. Thanks for making me laugh.

  • haha thats awesome

  • you. are. amazing.

  • mm. prolific.

  • I love you. This video is now yet another reason for this love.

  • I wondered what the deal was about you hating squirrels, David, now I know! I laughed my head off at the evil squirrel video-too, too funny! I played it several times & then had my husband watch it with me, we were both laughing! We have had incidents with these creatures ourselves. Once we were camping & a squirrel came to our site looking all cute, but hungry. I put some food on the picnic table for him-bad move!!! He would not go away, he about tore our camper up trying to get in for more treats! He visited at all of our meals waiting for his handout, which I promptly denied him of, but he was very persistant. I became afraid of him, fearing he would get in our camper or attack us as we came out. Oh HORRORS!!! SQUIRREL COOTIES!!!!

Then last summer one got in our attic when my husband removed a vent cover. We thought he was out, but he was trapped! He chewed & clawed at that cover until he got it bent out just far enough to stick his little “rat head” through. Then he got his head & one arm (leg?) through. It was soooo funny, he had his head & one arm sticking out clawing at the air trying to squeeze out of that opening! I would watch him & laugh, wish I had videoed it now! We finally had to take the vent cover out & wait for the thing to come out, then he wanted back in!!! Squirrels are EVIL, EVIL, creatures.

  • I totally love the video because I totally agree.  Dude, we had a family of squirrels (about 6 of them living in the attic).  Evil things, and I, like you, thought they were cute at first…until they started destroying things.  We tried “safe” traps at first…but they managed to still get to the food without setting off the traps.  Months had gone by and all of our hope of getting rid of the unwelcomed guests were dimming, UNTIL we discovered the POOL OF DEATH.  We’ve managed to eliminate all the pesky rodents in a day.  Yes, it’s totally cruel, but they were causing a lot of damage to the house and our outside yard.  It works with chipmunks, rats, mice…whatever.  Apply the sunflowers liberally!  http://tsheets.blogspot.com/2007/06/pool-of-death.html
