vacation over…
alright, so here’s the deal. we’re now 26 days away from the release of our latest recording – remedy.
this we are excited about. thrilled. smiling with teeth bared.
and so, for 26 days, we will need to tell you about it. again and again.
this is not a new phenomenon, no, this is in the long tradition of musical groups; going back to a guy named steve. he was the first to make the music and then think to tell someone about it.
so, in the long line of the tradition of steve, i give you this:i sent an advanced copy of remedy to a friend in san diego. another friend broke into first-mentioned friend’s office while first-mentioned friend was away. second-mentioned friend stole previously-mentioned advanced-copy cd. he then brazenly posted a review of it on his blog. i include it below:

david crowder band’s new album, remedy (amazon has them listed as “david band crowder” — ha!).i’m currently on my 12th listen-through of my absconded pre-release copy (sent to a co-worker) of this album, which doesn’t officially release until sometime in late september. and i hardly know where to start, in terms of choosing words to describe what i’m listening to.
let me start with this: for me (and i know that music is subjective), there is no god-focused collection of music better than this.
now, let me back up a bit. i was a major consumer of christian worship music for a few years. this was particularly easy to do, since we got pretty much every new ccm release through our office back then, for youthworker journal record reviews. so i didn’t even have to pay for ‘em. but, at some point, it was more about being a consumer than about being consumed. it was more about what’s next and what’s new than about what’s eternal and what’s mysterious. i got bored with it all: not bored with worship; but bored with listening to worship music.
except. i never got tired of the david crowder band. maybe because they really don’t quite fit a simple genre description of worship music. it’s like, rage against the machine wrote and performed songs that were almost all political in content. but that wasn’t their genre. they were an alt-rock-rap group, or some other genre combo-platter. same here. dc*b is a nu-rock band. and they sings songs about god, pretty much exclusively so.
last evening, as i was driving in my car, with this new album at a particularly engulfing volume level, already singing along, i had two distinct images come to mind:
first, i could already imagine — it was a strong image, i felt my throat tense with emotion as i envisioned it — singing some of these songs with thousands of youth workers this fall at the national youth workers conventions. the line “you make everything glorious” from the song, “everything glorious”, was one of those lines. i can hear it now, as i type this: 4000 youth worker’s voices joining together to sing that line. crowder stepping away from the mic, making it clear we are not singing to or about him. same with the line “you never let go” from the song by that title. mmmmm.
second, i was in the midst of noticing how easy david’s voice sounds on this album. i never thought of his voice as forced before. but there’s a new level of vocal maturity here. it’s rounder, smoother, calmer, more beautiful. and then, i started to notice a similar kind of growth in the other instruments: b-wack’s tinkering and beeps and blips are more prominent, but not distracting. mike d’s keyboard (i assume it’s mike d) is downright gorgeous on the title track. jack’s guitar is extra-crunchy on “we won’t be quiet”. hogan’s violin emotively pure, like a sound of a child with a clean, pure voice, on the opening track. i could go on — the same could be said for each band member. so here’s the image i had. some things grow in a linear fashion, along a line. and that’s not necessarily bad. the next spot on the line can be better, certainly. but as i was listening, i had this image pop into my head of growth in all directions — like the growth of a firework just after bursting, or the growth of a network diagram on fast-forward. this is what the growth of dc*b feels like to me on this album.
oh, and lyrics. yeah. wow. as usual. try this one on for size, from the final cut:
‘and the problem is this
we were bought with a kiss
but the cheek still turned
even when it wasn’t hitand i don’t know
what to do with a love like that
and i don’t know
how to be a love like thatwhen all the love in the world
is right here, among us
and hatred too
so we must choose
what our hands will dowhere there is pain
let there be grace
where there is suffering
bring serenity
for those afraid
help them be brave
where there is misery
bring expectancyand surely we can change
surely we can change
somethingand the problem it seems
is with you and me
not the love who came
to repair everythingand i don’t know
what to do with a love like that
and i don’t know
how to be a love like thatwhen all the love in the world
is right here, among us
and hatred too
and so we must choose
what our hands will dowhere there is pain
let us bring grace
where there is suffering
bring serenity
for those afraid
let us be brave
where there is misery
let us bring them reliefand surely we can change
surely we can change
o sure we can change
somethingthe whole world’s about to change…’
ok, i’m gushing, i realize. for me, this is why god invented music. sorry you have to wait a month. pre-order, i tell you.”

Such cool, encouraging lyrics David!! Can’t wait to listen to it soon!!
Take cares, DC*B.
nice.
So he “stole” the advance and you’re not upset…
hmmmmm… you’d never make it in Rap.
Excellent!
I’m pretty sure i pre-ordered mine like a month ago…and I’m countin’ down the days till it gets here.
AAAH, okay… I am, perhaps, excited to the point of being obsessive, so forgive me if I back off for a moment to get my bearings…
Right.
It comes out a week after my birthday. I may ask someone to do something about that.
David,
Most of those Y.S. guys were on my staff when I was a YP in San Diego (miss ya at Flood by the way), they’re all theives! They are not to be trusted with such a precious commodity! You would be much safer sending in to Arizona, also known as my direction!
Seriously can’t wait for the new album. Looking forward to seeing you come to Phoenix in October. Im bringing a bunch of students, so we’ll see you there.
Grace and Peace!
Kerry
Ok, so I’m poor. I don’t usually buy music. I don’t usually steal it either…. for now I generally just rely on my friends who are continually playing it. I’ve always loved your songs, but the only cd I actually owned was Illuminate. I have a feeling I’ll be buying this one. Those lyrics almost made me cry. I don’t cry often.
Thanks for your obedience.
this is some sort of terrible tease
how are you dcb boys so creative with your music and lyrics? the right sides of your brains must be… at least 3x as big! appreciate it guys
those are beautiful lyrics. God bless and thank you very much.
when does the A Collision rap collaboration with kanye west come out?
wait…was that a hoax?
dang it…
i have a feeling this new cd is going to stay in my car radio for months and months to come!!!
I can’t wait, guys. It took me over a year to fully get into A Collision… And now your new one is comming out! Haha. It’s great.
Oh, story! I was at school this week, sitting in the hall, waiting for my class, and this guy walks by. I looked up at him, and he had a shirt with a picture of a squril on it. I laughed to myself, remembering you. And then, I looked closer on the shirt, and saw the words “David Crowder Band” below the squril. I smiled, grabbed the guy, and told him, “Hey. Nice shirt.” He smiled, said thanks, and walked away. It was an amazing start to my school day.
God bless,
-Dave
Well done, David Crowder and band! I eagerly await the release of this compact disc.
I think I’m a little beside myself with excitement.
New music equals happiness.
I was in said office when said stolen CD was being played by said thief on his said computer for he hath ripped a copy into itunes I tell you. Thief then enjoyed said stolen music in said office while smiling at me as if said thief had bird in said mouth the same day as said thief blogged said CD experience. So… that being said, can I break back into said thief’s office and steal said CD for myself to enjoy in the tradition of Robin hood before my fabulous San Diego tickets come to be which I bought on the first day of said pre-release via this fabulous blog. So, Mr. Crowder… may I swipe from the rich to give to poor old me thine fine musical creation- oh meister of all things hairy, squirrel like, and melodious?
Pretty shiny review, even if it is from Marko… never trust those youth ministry-type guys – that’s my motto.
oh wait…
Nevermind.
it is with great anticipation I await the new ablum! It’s gonna have to do, b/c I can’t afford to make the concert in Houston on Oct. 6. *Sniffle*….and then I’m leaving Texas for a year. waaaaah……
You’re cd is going with me though.
and surely we can change
surely we can change
o sure we can change
something
i love that.
I read the lyrics here David and listened to the clips that you sent… I like them already!
Wishing I could see you in Ohio… maybe Remedy will bring me peace about it. *grin*
the wait is going to be so excruciatingly painful, but i am sooooo sure that every second of crowderly goodness is going to be worth it.
rock on!!! m/
congratulations on the album!! may God bless your music!! those lyrics are very good – can’t wait to hear them!
My next to CD purchase will be David Crowder Band and Kanye West.
<man, how i wish i were that thief today!
wow. those lyrics are definitely something i needed to hear. thanks for posting them. and thanks for making your music.
i can’t wait for the new album.
wow. I can not wait. another day closer until I get it.
I absolutely love the lyrics. I don’t know what to do with a love like this… something I can so relate to. I’m fairly certain it is a love given me without merit most of the time.
I think I may have pre-ordered, but I really can’t remember so I’ll have to check now. I’ve been known to preorder twice because of my faulty memory. LOL
Looking forward to seeing you in October in Boise, and I do have a ticket already.
God’s blessings, Melanie
this really is some sort of horrible, sick, tease…
Ship out the pre-release orders out already, will ya?
There will be big love – FIGSTYLE – for the release.

Davey Dave!!!
I got a problem. I’m feeling majorly SICK. I need some REMEDY!!!
I’m thinking you should make the concert in Atlanta a seven-day event what with seven being a holy number and all.
wow. love the lyrics.
so dc, i’m going to be front row in oct.
will you sign my shirt?
and if i give you my camera,
will you not take it (like the dollar),
but take a photographic memory for my collection?
and btw,
God bless ya.
can’t wait for the new album.
Dave, this is awesome. I can’t wait till the new album releases.
You and your band are obviously one of my favorites because of your uniqueness. Everything you do is so unique, and as a classical music listener, I can tell you that some of your music has a good sense of musicianship and creativity.
I hope we can meet one day and perhaps be acquainted, too.
God bless,
Sam
i’m pretty sure i was just waiting in anticipation for this cd
now i’m drooling in anticipation
i can’t wait for the album!
some of the best lyrics I’ve read since Anberlin’s “*Fin” I like the chorus’s reference to St Francis’ prayer. can hardly wait to hear the cut off the album.
I have 3 things to say about this post…..
1. the obvious…..after reading this, i am even more excited for the new cd
2. I agree with the author about getting tired of listening to worship music, but DCB is the exception
3. i am jealous, i am not one of Crowder’s friends who gets to sample the CD before everyone else
I cant wait for Remedy to come out! I recently got 4 of your old cds and i cant stop listening to them. You guys ROCK!!!
ummm… why u gotta hype ur cd out EVEN MORE than it already has to be… stop goading me mister crowder… u dont even know me
the second-mentioned person so accurately conveys the depth of your music and the review does it tremendous justice.
by the way.. how does the dr pepper shirt fit u?
22 MORE DAYS Y’ALL… I’M COUNTIN DOWN…
this has definitly enhanced my excitement for the album/tour/everything that will someday be a reality on the earth…thanks
I agree with YourHeeps…
I already pre-ordered it, but now I can’t wait, and that review isn’t really helping that much. If the CD doesn’t arrive on the day it releases, I might just have to go out and buy one that day. =P
[insert speechless]
God bless
~Scott
bummer, now i cant find the link for the sound clips from the new album. help, anyone??
I’m pumped.
Welcome back! I hope your vacation was restful. What a great review of Remedy. I can hardly wait for my CD to arrive!
is it possible to get this gentleman’s business adress, so that I might to pilfer this advanced copy and enjoy the movement of the Spirit through it?
ooo…. less than a month now
*is happy* I could use a remedy.
Incredible lyrics that resonate with me. I could never understand that agape love of Jesus. Because of my upbringing I learned that when someone said, “I love you.” it meant that they wanted something from me and it would hurt a lot. Only Jesus loves in a way that is empowering. I am looking forward to the release of this album and will purchase it.
Heather
What a treat it was today to open my e-mail and find an e-card from DCB with sound clips from Remedy. Oh yeah! I can’t wait to get the CD and get it on my iPod so I can do a tempo run to We Won’t Be Quiet and Can You Feel It. 19 days and counting….
Hey David.
I can’t say there’s a single song you’ve put out that I don’t love. I haven’t kept up on stuff well lately so I didn’t realize you’re releasing a new CD. I’m gonna try to pre-order it and catch u in concert when you guys are in Georgia in November. Awesome concert back at Atlanta fest!
sounds delicious!! cant wait for it :]
hi there, hey just wanted to say that i read a review on “remedy” in ccm’s september issue. another great review. can’t wait to hear this cd. can’t wait to see you in october. so much to look forward to. all the best to you.
Hi David. How are you doing; how are things now that you’re beginning to be back on the road?
By the way – I don’t check xanga too often – so sometime stop by my blogspot and leave a comment – I check and write there often! You only need to put your name so I know it’s you.

Know that I’ve been praying for you guys!

Oh, I saw a squirrel darting across the road today and I started laughing because I thought of the “Evil Squirrel Story!” *grin*
so is it totally pathetic that i go to the site you sent me EVERY day and listen to the 5 second clips?!?…. ugh! it’s such a tease David!
and i’m trying to come to the Raleigh or DC show…..i’m working around this inconvenient thing called “school”….i mean personally i think a David Crowder concert is a good enough reason for an “excused absence”
wouldn’t you say?
*Amy*
are you going to be rockin’ the key-tar again this year??? we don’t have enough key-tarists in this day and age…they should even have classical key-tarists, playing re-mixed versions of beethoven and mozart.
…Is there any way that DC*B can inject itself and the new album into the fierce comeptition between Kanye and Curtis? I hear it’s deadlocked, and the DC*B might be able to slip in and really shake up the demographic there.
For those of you that haven’t seen it, here are the Hip-Hop B-Sides of the new album:
.1 glory of it all (feat. Young Jeezy)
.2 can you feel it (feat. Mike Jones)
.3 everything glorious (feat. Common)
.4 neverending (feat. Lil’ Wayne)
.5 never let go (feat. Nas and Jay-Z)
.6 o for a thousand tongues (thong song remix feat. Cisco)
.7 rain down (Chocolate Rain Remix feat. Tay Zonday)
.8 we won’t be quiet (feat. the Nelly and the St. Lunatics)
.9 remedy (feat. Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common, and Erykah Badu)

Can’t wait!
