  • question about the fall

i realize that the autumn equinox is, oh, 20 days away, but with gustav* on land, i’m in a suitable state for it at the present time. now, this is where i would typically begin eloquent text, pertaining to the third season of the northern hemisphere, marked by rational composition and a coherent arrangement of thoughts provoking images of harvest, crops and fruits being gathered, leaves falling, air turning fresh and enlivening with a suggestion of cold relative to the temperature of the human body, but that would be clichéd. instead – insert your answer to the following question in the comments, and i’ll let you know if you get it right:

what do you like most about the fall?

    A. seasonal change
    B. new/returning tv shows
    C. football
    D. new clothing options

*carribean folk wisdom regarding hurricane season: june –– too soon. july – stand by. august – look out you must. september – remember. october – all over.

  • gotta be A. but C is a close 2nd.

  • A: cool down… leaves changing + D: sweaters to go with the A

  • football… baylor football… even though it’s hard to be a fan sometimes.

  • that’s such a subjective question. how can you tell us what the right answer is? hahahaha

i say C, although, it’s going to be hard for me here in Taiwan. no one here plays American football….=/ sad sad sad

  • A. the change in colors
    B. Heroes season 3… Heroes: Villians… nuff said
    C. not so much
    D. yes…. definitely yes…

  • A, but also D

  • B…. without a doubt!

  • the office returning

  • Are you kidding me?

You’re from Texas. You, of all people, will understand that the answer is undeniably C.

You’re from the state who birthed a team that’s so cocky, it built a stadium with a hole in it so “God could watch his favorite team.”

You may or may not be a Cowboy’s fan, but you’re from Texas. Football is in your blood.

That’s a long of saying that my answer is “C”.

Kyle (From Lafayette, Louisiana…eat it Gustav!)

  • it’s a combination of a) and d). while the weather tugs at my heart strings, they must be covered in a fashionable argyle sweater.

  • I shall create my own answer:

    E. All of the above.

  • football, all the way. ROLL TIDE! sorry baylor got knocked off

  • All of the above. If that is not an option, I would have to say B because I just finished watching the Prison Break premire.

  • When I read your post title I thought you were writing about the fall of mankind. As a result, the post content was a little underwhelming, although that’s not your fault.

  • A.

Fall weather is the best.  The smell of fall can make my day.  I love stepping on crispy leaves and actually getting to sit on my porch without having a heat stroke.

  • I thought I’d be original and create my own answer, but I see that to attain originality, I have to be a little quicker in responding.
    But here, without originality:
E, all of the above, because:
    A) I absolutely adore the change…the leaves, the temperature, everything.  It’s perfect in its beauty.
    B) Bones, The Office, etc.
    C) YES!!!!  The first pre-season game had me sitting on my couch cheering for every single mundane play.
    D) Hoodies.  Enough said.

  • it’s all about A.
That’s why I switch on your “End of October”

and watch the leaves fall, see the fields change from green to shades of fire as if life began to burn to ashes.
    it’s pretty remarkable.

hey, hope Gustav doesn’t do too much damage around you guys!

  • A, but only up north where the leaves actually change COLORS.

No offense to Texas, but A is pretty dull here… heh…

Gustav managed to avoid killing New Orleans. Let’s see how it does with us.

  • A and D. You cannot have one without the other. wearing Track Jackets again. Thank God.

  • Gonna have to say A. The leaves here in CT are already starting to turn brown and red. And it looks beautiful when the wind blows…

  • Football
    Football
    And more football.

I was so football hungry, I was recording pre-season games.
    I have a problem.

  • When I read the subject of this post in my RSS reader, i thought this surely would of been an expositional look at Genesis 3.

    I am not saying I’m disappointed, I choose A & B respectively.

  • Having lived several years in the Caribbean, I can say that in October, it still aint over… Fall means football – definitely!

  • anyone that guesses anything other then C is WAY off their rocker

  • What I like most about the fall….running the Chicago Marathon!

  • A.

By the way you are describing the seasonal changes, the colors, and other various sights, you are noticing nature…and the fact that you love God deeply also adds on that point.

  • a, and all that it entails.

  • I would have to say C and A

  • Yeah, definitely A.  Seasonal change is so refreshing here in Georgia.  I will go out of my way to step on a particularly crunchy leaf.

  • Its A for me here in Aussie, we want our Spring :D

  • The answer is:

    E) Starting a grassroots campaign to save the Oxford comma.  It deserves to live, David Crowder!  It deserves to LIVE!!!

(The authorities on all things grammatical–Strunk & White–inveigh against its omission, but so do a lot of other people more important than I.)

  • A. YES! Ruby, Gold and Copper are such amazing colors…and really? Fall is probably the best season when you live in GA….winter means ice storms, summer means no rain and unbearable heat, spring means unpredictable storms….yeah…

    B. not sure about this one yet….no one will tell me when/if Ugly Betty will be back, and since Greek already started…

C.now i’m not a big football fan, but being a GA Tech/Auburn fan in a veritable sea of UGA fans, it’s just fun to mess with ‘em :)

    D. Who doesn’t love argyle knee socks, turtlenecks and boots?

all that being said, fall/autumn is a glorious season and this fan is ready to gallantly cheer its return!

    huzzah! huzzah!

  • i’d go with A. change of seasons. i hate the summer and its hot hot heat. autumns cool windy breezes are perfecto

  • A.  I prefer the cold, but we don’t really get snow here in Waco.
    B.  Don’t really watch TV.
    C.  I live in the same town as Baylor University.  I know first hand that American football is a JOKE.  Rugby and Soccer for the win.
    D.  Dude, I just wear athletic shorts or jeans with a tshirt.

Overall, I guess that would have to mean my answer is, A.

  • I would pick E, all of the above. :) Each letter answer has a unique connotation. haha

  • livin’ in Minnesota……A is my answer.  The leaves turn to glorious colors along His Lake Superior’s huge shoreline, we traverse to the North Shore to take it in, and if lucky, a storm with breakers crashing in on the local “beach”.

I call it Autumn.  our 18 yr. son was killed at work by a fall.  Autumn is gentle, and has fragrance in the word, if you ask me at least.  And it holds sounds, pleasing memories, crunching leaves, laughter, autumn school sports with smiling kids coming in for food and fellowship afterwards…. it holds so much……..

  • probably D…

yay for cozy new hoodies and coats!

  • Mostly the seasonal change.  If you ever go walk around in the woods during fall, the smells are amazing.  It is really strange that the death of all these leaves could smell so pleasant.  Football is good too though.  Go UK Wildcats.

  • I choose F: Both A and D
    (E is Both B and C)

  • why isn’t there an all of the above option.

  • C: Football, and D: clothing options.  oh, and C:  football

  • I would have to say that my favorite thing about fall is a tie between football and new shows.

As far as the Caribbean Folk Wisdom is concerned, I had no idea that Yoda was an Islander. I mean, just look at August. “look out you must.”

  • I have to go with A.  As a long distance runner, I love to run in cooler temperatures.  This running in the day time during summer time in Texas is killer!  Don’t get me wrong, I love summer, but running season is better in the fall!  Bring on the marathons!!

  • A. Because it is creation reminding us that surely we can change as well. There is just something that you can even smell in the air that beckons us to examine our hearts and see what needs to stay and what needs to go.

  • @Pasadena_Spartacus - yeah, sorry. it was a pun. seeing as i was thinking of gustav and all.

  • @Jbud - dearest mr bud, this post is an onion; layer upon layer. ibid – @pasadena_spartacus

  • seasonal change

  • well mister david crowder sir i’ll tell you my favorite part…the clothing.  in my high school days i was a prep.  i loved fall for the fall preppy look is much more fun and diverse than the summer preppy look.  not many options in the summer, oodles of fall options.

however, now as more of a band dresser (for i play music for jesus), i just take the tshirt that i’ve been wearing and rock a long-sleeve thermal or baseball shirt under it.  so simple. so awesome.

    love,

    isaac schade

  • for me it is the super and amazing letter

    B.

    new/returning tv shows

because i can’t really live without my super cute “clark kent” from Smallville

isn’t he the most amazing and super talented human being on the planet? or the galaxy for that matter. >:D

  • D.  Most emphatically D!

  • E- all of the above, I do work son!

  • Deffinetly A, with D right behind.  Fall is and always has been my favorite season.  Cooler temps but not too cold, pretty leaves, and as noted already the smell.  There’s just something about it that evokes good feelings and memories.  Although I don’t get so many new clothes each fall as I used to in school, I still enjoy getting out the old clothes that haven’t been worn all summer.  Hoodies are deffinetly fun!  :)    It makes me feel better just thinking about fall now that you brought it to mind.  Thanks!

  • A and D are definitely tied

  • C, but A is tied with it.  C though.  As in C is for Cowboys.  As in the Dallas Cowboys.  As in “hey, how ’bout them Cowboys.”  Yeah. definitely C.

  • how coincidental! i was doing my homework for history of american popular music, and was reading about the significance of the lincoln center’s recognition of jazz as a “fine art.”

    D. i love wearing long sleeves! i am sure you understand, sir: i have seen you sport many-a-track jacket.

  • I am completely stoked for the coming of fall!
my favorite thing being the changing temperatures and leaves – i am so sick of hot humid weather (i’m from NC, in college in VA). i know its worse further south but i’m still ready for the refreshing cold! and the holidays it brings! and i must admit i do like the fashion aspect of it:)

    whats your fav, Mr. Crowder??

  • Coincidence or fate???  I was just discussing this with my father yesterday!  My two favorite things about Fall:

    1. Football – NY GIANTS! I realize that will not be popular in TX…but my dad’s been a fan for 50 years-like I had a choice! :)

2.No more mosquitos or bugs! (At least not up here in the Northeast- we’re in Saratoga NY)

  • Im gonna have to go with A but D kinda goes with it.

(i heard that Turkish Delight song last night and it was amazing )

    :)

  • C. Football…Dallas Cowboy football to be exact!

I hope all is well in, just up the raod, Waco.

    Peace,

    PaulE

  • A, D, and C if I were still in the States.

I have gained much appreciation for springs that are actually warm and summer now that I don’t live in it year-round. Now it’s more the opposite: winter 9/12 months.

  • right off the top of my head, my answer would be B because The Office rocks my socks

but if i had to give it more thought, A would be my choice.

hmm… ok now it’s confusing what my answer is. to be thoughtful or not thoughtful…

i choose the NON-thoughful answer. BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB

    :D

  • I like the change but here in Florida we don’t really get much of one.
       Peace

  • C. but more like futbol rather than football…(does that count?nontheless, whether is does or not, my answer is submitted)

  • Okay, so the greatest thing about the changing of seasons, particularly the cooler weather, isnt even on here? What’s up with that?

    Definitly E, as in hockey starting momentarily… 19 – 33
Days until preseason starts, and regular season starting, respectively
If that’s not allowed, I suppose I’d say seasonal change, as in colder weather, as in ice hockey…
Oh yeah, if you haven’t figured it out, I’m from Canada… EH?

  • E.  I don’t get completely drenched in sweat first thing in the morning walking to my 8:00!

  • Fall? I’m from Houston, TX and I’m not quite sure what you are referring to…

    Just Kidding!

I love going back to school, the return of The Office, and the occasional cold front! =)

  • I love having a beard in the Fall. I spent all this time growing it in the Summer and now when it gets to Fall it will be cool enough to actually enjoy having it.

I also can’t wait for Football, the new season of Heroes, and for the temperature to be cool enough for me to wear hoodies again.

  • I like the funny subtitles you have in many of the instructional videos on the DVD.

  • C.  I love watching some football…maybe because I was always too skinny to play it when I was in highschool.

  • crap! i’m horrible at multiple choice…

  • college football season is finally here, and along with such joy comes coats and scarves. mmmm. makes my heart throb far too fast.

  • First choice would be A all the way. Autumn has always been my favorite season. Second would be C although I haven’t decided yet who I will be rooting for. I know some of you may find that ridiculous and impossible. But I am an overall football fan and have never really cheered for any one team in particular. This year I will be forced to keep up with the Buffalo Bills on account of my Economics professor assigning homework related to their stats/odds/etc. He is crazy about the Bills. And then after that I would have to say D.

Hope you are staying safe from Gustav down there.

  • A and then D, for sure ^_^ fall clothes are so cozy plus leaves smell good haha

  • Well, since E – all of the above is not an option I’ll have to go with A, D, B and C. What good is changing our wardrobe to compliment the beautiful scenery if when we come home … only reruns and no football season! So I guess that choosing only one answer is too hard for me, sorry!

  • b

my life isnt complete without the office

  • I completely agree with Fry28: “it’s a combination of a) and d). while the weather tugs at my heart strings, they must be covered in a fashionable argyle sweater.”

  • I’m going to go with C.

Now that I answered correctly, what’s my prize? ;)

  • i just realized DC*B is in order backwards… not that I didn’t know that in the general sense.

when i first read this I thought you had a biblical question about The Fall located in Genesis 3.

  • A. Season change is nice.
I love the cooling temperatures and the calming of people. I love the prelude to the holidays, everyone seems calmer for a bit. The rhythms of school, work, and everyday life have returned and we can all just sink into the routine for a bit.

  • Definatly A.
I love Autumn ….I named my daughter Autumn….
September 22 is a celebration in our house…  jammin to Earth Wind and Fire “september” ….and we pray the Astros are still playing…

  • ….. Showoff!!

  • B.. and C is a close second.

But yeah.. I’ve recently fallen in love with a lot of really good shows. House MD, Heroes, The Office.. need I say more?

  • ah… well I can’t really answer that… very American multiple choice see?

It’s turning Spring here in RSA, and the biggest thing about the change is the sunshine!

PS – you call it Fall – do you know why? We call it Autumn… I don’t particularly know why.

  • Seeing as how the season of summer doesn’t really change until January in the South, hence we wear the same clothes pretty much all during summer and fall, and there’s nothing good on t.v. anymore, I’m going with C.  My husband does a happy dance every late August because he knows it’s coming.

  • I’d have to go with letter A. seasonal change. final answer.

here’s some flattery cuz you sent me.the dvd/cd is amazing, along with all your music!! you really went all out with the glidcams and all for the shooting. it’s so sweet to be able to watch you guys play anytime when I pop the dvd in. can’t wait to see you guys at cedarville :)
I’d like to ask a huge favor. could you send me the files (or explanation if it uses stuff only in ableton) necessary for the song …neverending… that’d be sweet. thanks!!! artist7smiles@gmail.com

  • Live in California — the answer’s gotta be B!

  • i guess c. i do like wearing hoodies. and i like fall and everything, but even when fall’s just beginning it alarms me and i have to keep trying to push it back and keep the winter away. i hate winter.

  • As much as I’m looking forward to watching my television shows again and wearing my sweaters again (just not–sorry–football), I have to say that what I like most about the fall is (A) seasonal change.

I love the days right at the beginning of fall, before it’s really come, when the sky is the color of chalk, and the grass is newly cut.  Across the dirt road is a small hill lined with trees.  The leaves are beginning to lose their green and fade to yellows, oranges, reds and browns.  One tree is a little ahead in the race toward winter and its golden-red leaves shine out brightly amidst the dimmer still-somewhat-greens.  The grass on the hill beneath the trees has not been cut yet, and is scattered with leaves which have fallen in the winds and rains which herald the beginning of autumn.

And I know that soon I’ll take a walk and crunch dry leaves under my feet, feeling the nip of a cold wind on my nose and ears, and look forward to entering my warm house and sitting down with a cup of hot cider to look out the window again, and watch the first flakes of snow begin to fall.

Sorry, you’ve got a Northerner on your hands here.

  • so, as one who always wants to pick the right answer, i have to say
that this quiz is not fair because there couldn’t possibly be a right
answer…it’s an opinion question and you can’t prove someone’s opinion
is to be regarded as the correct opinion unless you agree with them, in
which case you are merely being one-sided for thinking your ideas are
    best.

also, in thinking about the punnyness of the question, if you look at
it in terms of the Genesis 3 fall and not the season, it’s a whole new
question.  i think that all the answers could be related to the fall of
man in some way.  i know changing seasons is a part of the life of
plants, but winter brings death and death is the result of the fall.
also, TV shows are part of the effects of the fall because they can
twist the realities of life and portray what somebody wants to tell us
life should be like or is like and not necessarily how God sees us or
wants us to be.  though football doesn’t have any inherent connection
to the fall, there is definitely corruption within the sport because
people are involved and people are sinful.  and lastly, clothing, of course, is
a direct consequence because adam and eve felt shame for being naked.

however, after that long and analytical answer, i would have to say
that i love fall (the season) and many things about it (including all
of the above choices) but my favorite thing by far is my birthday and
Thanksgiving, which happen to coincide often, because of the yummy food
and all the autumn characteristics that the holiday portrays.  in terms
of the fall (Gen 3), my most liked consequence is probably the change
of seasons, but football is a close second =P

when will you tell us the “right” answer, dave? =)

  • I feel the weight now too, david. joeynigro.wordpress.com for more about it.

  • are you okay? have you been affected by Ike?

  • “you sent me”

    e. i don’t believe in favorites.
what are your thoughts on banana bread?

  • Your new bio said I should come here and say hello in addition to nice things. So hello and nice things!  (Seriously though, while I dig the band’s music you should also write more. Your writing style is fantastic.)

My personal favorite thing about fall is the seasonal change, especially here in Pennsylvania where the leaves explode into such a chorus of color.

  • A comment because you told me to in your bio:
I love football most, but the leaves changing is also great when fall is host. The great thing about being a fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks (college is more fun than the NFL in my humble, but right opinion) is that when you drive to Fayetteville to watch a game in the fall you are greeted by the changing leaves of the beautiful Ozarks.

  • Dave, I’m worried about you. Are you OK? You’ve never gone this long without blogging, lol.

Anyways, I came by here because u told me to and u said it makes you happy.
    Hello!

  • I most love the seasonal change… well, and the clothes; there’s nothing quite like a hoodie.

Just read your bio and was compelled therein to give some love.  You guys are seriously amazing – talent, depth, expression, etc. etc. foreverandever….  In fact, you were a great comfort to me on a recent ride some 33,000 ft in the air (I am terrified of flying!).  Just wanted to say thanks!

  • I would say all of the above.

But the real reason I am writing here is because you told me to on your bio. And I just wanted to add that reading it really made me want to get a new pair of shoes.

Hope you enjoy the season, and your veggie chicken nuggets! (I might just have to try those things.)

  • crowder! you should post more often

  • hot apple cider and pumpkin donuts

  • E. -the fall?–ha! ~ salvation – apple munchin’ and got nuthin on g_d’s purchasing power

  • Could you please come to Wisconsin….maybe to our church..Riverpark Church in Pewaukee..please

  • Hmm…I would have to say A. I despise 100+ weather. Of course, the scarves and sweaters are a definite plus.

  • There is absolutely nothing I like about fall or winter.  Leaves die and decay.  Really cold winters the baby animals suffer and some die. We get sick and some die. You can’t swim, can’t hang outside, can’t do much outside beside go inside where it is warm. I wished snow was warm and not hurt &  numb your hands & feet just as you begin to really have fun!

Even those that say you have to have cold to kill the insects. To which I reply, “I’d rather have bugs”

  • …that – like the ground, He’s got it covered…

oh – i just realized – i’m being redundant here – i addressed this already above ^ – i was just so excited – getting friended and all – 1st thing i did -when i realized who –David was– was text my pastor and gloat..

  • Just like any generic pharmaceutical, Zenegra Generic Viagra online are less expensive than the brand name equivalent cheap Viagra . The reason that you can buy Zenegra generic Buy Cialis for less at a online drugstore is that you don’t pay for branding, marketing, advertising or a costly sales force or overhead. The cost savings are past directly on to you.
