jesus is a friend of mine
so, i’m certain you’ve seen the video of the band sonseed by now, but if you haven’t, you need to go to youtube and type in ‘jesus is my friend’ and have your life changed.
last sunday ben, my friend that i reference here on occasion, showed the video during the announcements at our church, ubc. the set up was too tempting, so, instead of listening to the sermon (yes, i know), we (the band) gathered in ben’s office around his computer learning this life changing song. we thought it a fitting benediction. church music is cool. here is the resulting youtube:

1) that keyboard looks suspiciously like one of the keyboards bwack was credited with making in an earlier post. is there something we should know?

While that was a fantastic rendition, you certainly lacked the hip movement ethusiasm of the electric guitarist. Even some slight head tilting on the first and third beat would be nice.

hold crap i just saw the sonseed video. i will seriously never be the same. i am reeling
confession… our worship team ALSO watched this video one Sunday (along with the ‘Renewed Mind is the Key’… another disturbing classic) during the sermon. Both made me a bit ill in a way I don’t fully understand. THIS however… your cover of it… is a welcomed bit of closure. Hilarious. Thank you.

Okay, go to youtube and type in The Renewed Mind is the Key. lt is hysterical. Everyone I have showed it to thinks that is an SNL skit, but it’s not. But it is priceless. You should see a dude in a suit and on both sides to women in navy dresses, very conservative…. until you see their dance moves!!!

Wow. This may be one of the funniest things I have ever seen. You guys did the original proud. I looked it up on YouTube. The Mountie always gets his man…did that dude really say that? The blue leisure suits are killer. Sal rocks out for sure.

This is excellent, but I’m not sure anything can top the enthusiasm of the guitar player in sonseed. His gusto remains unmatched.

The only reasons why I laugh at the original version is because of the facial expressions, the “dancing,” and the part where he says that Jesus touched him “deep inside.”
