the bohr model of the atom developed in 1913 was an attempt by neils bohr to come to an accommodation with two opposing schools of thought on the nature of particulate matter. the classical school maintained that all sub-atomic activity could be explained and understood in light of the classical laws of physics postulated by individuals such as sir isaac newton (laws of motion) and galileo. the laws of gravity, electrostatics, magnetism, and electricity were considered good predictors of the activity that occurred in the macrocosmic world that we live and function within. on the other hand, there was a new emerging school of thought that maintained the perception that the world of the atom could only be understood, if at all, by a complete set of new assumptions and postulates that would govern the way matter behaved at the sub-microscopic level. bohr maintained that both views of the atomic world could be correct. he tried an eclectic approach in his model. the model consisted of a massive very dense nucleus composed of the protons. the electrons (key to our understanding of the chemistry of matter) were assigned definitely predictable “orbits”. at first, the orbits were concentric circular paths, but, later, the model was modified to consist of elliptically shaped orbits. the electrons circled around the nucleus being held in position by a balance between the centrifugal force propelling them outward and the electrostatic force of attraction between the positive nucleus and the negative electrons. electrons assigned to orbits further out from the nucleus would possess a larger quantity of energy then those assigned to orbits closer to the nucleus. there were immediate problems with this model. the fact that moving charged particles such as the electrons should radiate energy. if this were so, then the electrons should spiral down into the center of the atom. in other words, we are faced with an absurdity that all atoms should collapse upon themselves. of course, that was not reality so the model was not predicting realty, as any theory ought to do. the model did accurately predict the parameters of a one-electron system like the hydrogen atom, but with multi-electron atomic systems the predicted parameters were not forthcoming. for these reasons the bohr model was not the definitive answer as to what an atom looked like. however, it was a step in the right direction. the model is still used as a way of keping up with the number of electrons in the various shells or orbits. this is important. it has to do with what we are doing here in the barn.

Awesome. Hey, the service was a hit last night. Everyone at St. Andrew’s loves Undignified. best of luck to you on you cd. God Bless!
i think you need to look into the quantum-mechanical model developed by Schrodinger–it explains things a little better
David Wallace Crowder!

thought id pray in tongues for you.
and if you come over ill lay hands on you too. when all is said and done, come to arcadia, southern california, sometime this year to do a concert!
comment my xanga PUHLEASE! im trying to feel special. HAHAHA, i know yo u already read it and subscribe to it, but, dag yo! comment, wow, okay, GOD BLESS!
My head is still spinning. I wish I could understand all of that for Chemistry class! By the way, I LOVE your music! Keep on serving the Lord in the awesome way you do!
what the! hahaha, wow, that was wierd, i was reading your earlier post and commented on that, but then i ended up commenting on both, dag yo! thats sweet!
mike whang has your Idaho t-shirt, hes hiding it somewhere in his korean room, where they eat korean apples. hes gonna kill me when he reads this. but its all worth it.
chemistry for the dork in all of us!
can’t wait to see what comes outa the barn..
im gonna take the liberty of taking up all the room.

sweet. … spirit.
so that bohr model is important eh? is it cuz everything is starting to orbit around your hair?
i mean, all that hair, in such a complex and multifarious form and with such circuitous and intricate weavings of function, it must generate and project some sort of electromagnetic dynamistic impulses of force. that it dictates its own gravitational pull, coercing little flies, eprops and holy spirits to gravitate around the nucleus, that being your hot face. hmmm, what a deep and intellectual metaphor you have created.
cheers good lad!
I don’t think I have ever scene a more random person in my entire life. Oh well, take it easy.

(in regards to your last post)
you release something new every other month. slow the heck down and let us savor your outpouring.

hey…im learning something similar in ap physics and ap chem right now… did u know that although protons repel eachother because they are like charges, they’re held tightly together in the nucleus? It turns out that the protons in a nucleus dont have enough energy to repel eachother, so they stay like that way until they get a boost of energy to break apart. My physics teacher compared that idea to a married couple who hated eachother but couldnt afford to get a divorce until they won the lottery. I found that quite interesting to know. -Alex

somehow i commented twice and i have no idea how….
ewww… that’s what i’m learning in physics rite now….. ewwwwww
Bohr was indeed more right than most modern physicists would lead you to believe. Bohr’s model of the atom requires the electrons to radiate energy. The common assumption is then that the electrons would spiral into the nucleus, as you have so eloquently stated. However, the fact of the matter is that electrons are constantly producing energy internally via the asymmetric weak nuclear force (which has other VERY interesting implications).
Anyhow, I also think today’s physicists have gone hog wild on the whole quantum physics thing. For example, an increasing number of phenomena must be explained using statisticals. However, the mistake many physicists make is to assume said phenomena are statistical in nature. Bohr and Einstein both argued that ALL phenomena are deterministic (albeit using as yet unknown formulas), and that the results are simply what can be approximated via statistics. (Electron tunneling is a prime example.) In this I would definitely have to agree. Anyhow, I like your site and you seem to be quite the physics knowledgebase, so definitely check out my site simetime.
David Crowder!!! WOW I have wanted to be you ever since I saw you at DCLA in sacremento…you acctually signed my guitar it was preety funny…Its cool that you have a xanga…lets see if you are cool enough to go to mine and leave a comment…
Oh and by the way the new song that is on the passion CD WOW if your whole new CD is like that!!! OM goodness i will be redicoulsly excited, I mean I allready am but that song is awweeesooommmee its incredible….
So yeah…pleeeeaaassseee go to my xanga!!! you might like it…I dont know….leave a comment…please…#1 fan….maybe…
<3 : : love joy peace patience kindness e.t.cness? : : <3
please tell me that is not the cover of the new record… i will throw away the slip and listen to the cd…. just joking…
how did i come to that conclusion… i do read your site… almost to a disturbingly amount of time…. almost stalker-ish like… not really that much… but alot more so than not… anyways… i also read the Tom Anderson guitar of the week as well… and let’s just say, tom puts more things in there than he would have liked to get out in the public…. read DCB meets Atom…
uh huh…
Grace and peace

and of course, the bohr model is not an accurate representation of the atom because of course, the atom is comprised of mostly empty space. so in the model you have in the picture, the electrons would probably be many thousands of feet away.
please explain why this has relativity to your barn?
ah back to chemistry class.
I’m not sure what any of that meant, Mr Crowder. But I’m very intrigued by your overall barn adventure.
I dislike chemistry… My last chem test was a 21. out of 100… And the sad thing is that I didn’t have the lowest score. I was 2nd lowest… I couldn’t even boast that I had the worst score…
Did you take a nap before you wrote all that david?
I certainly hope so….
How bout those guitar signal paths/amp combos???
information!! we want information!!!

who is shane?
ahh BUT have you heard of the GOd particle…? and that if this elusive particle is to be found modern physics would come to a hush……….
!!!!help!!!!…I’m in major need of advice….I’m getting fed up with christians…like a gazillion kids around me go around saying they’re christians and such…but then I see them walking around school and making fun of other people or being totally non-christian to them… that’s not what others need to see…we already have a hard enough time being Christians oursleves…help…I want to say something to them…but I don’t want them to think I am judging them…or being hypocritical…*sigh*…any advice????….-Moi
Well, I have to say it, David Crowder. Almost like it isn’t real. Well, I’m always glad to see a brother in Christ leading people to Christ! I am going to be a youth pastor myself and let me tell you how much I appriciate your work. I’m glad to see that God is blessing your ministry and I challenge you to keep seeking God more and more! Never settle for what is there, but keep searching for more! Your music speaks life into empty hearts and never forget that! lol! Hey big fan!
so what does worship look like?
peace… love… bdg…
w0rd to the physics, yo.
“If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music,” ~Albert Einstein.
Hey Dave,
I love reading your Xanga, your soooo cool! I look up to you, your a great role model for me, with all your music and glorifing God with it. Keep it real and relax
Wow, that was a lengthy and intense metaphor, but the scientific sentiments recall memories best forgotten…. I really sucked at chemistry.
I see Bohr’s model of an atom as a metaphor for the new covenant found in the blood of Jesus Christ. Just as Bohr’s model changed the way scientists viewed the structure of the atom, revolutionizing it forever, Christ’s sacrificial blood changed the old covenant and brought the new covenant, showing humanity how He ultimately deals with sin and how He made us right with Him once again. Bless His holy Name-
Wow! Another chemistry nerd with a guitar who loves God!!!!
I thought being a science teacher and a Christian rocker might not be compatible. I’ve just been narrow-minded. My old students should get a look at this.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
God bless
