wow. this morning was overwhelming. i awoke to a large saw in my upstairs hallway. the house is being remodeled and the tools are loud. very loud. this saw looks like a sword fish and the operator was jabbing it about the place with little concern for himself or what it would begin to tear at. it was beautiful and loud. there will soon be stairs where he was cutting. nice. i didn’t get to the barn until like 10:10am which was late for me. i was to sing this morning so it was better to get a slower start to things. “rescue” was the song. i have been a bit worried about it as it has a large role to play at the end of the record. it is a very personal song and one that holds a lot of emotion and sometimes it is a difficult thing to get this into your voice and skin. but it was all very present. it is a wonderful thing to feel. i know a few people who are unable to feel anymore. life has just taken it out of them. so i sang. and i felt it all. i am glad. the third verse we did a pass with a geek mic (ok here is an aside as i have used this same term in reference to drum micing and perhaps some other places that i don’t currently recall. here’s the deal. a geek mic is, hang on, i’m going to ask shane how he would describe it…”when you’re looking for a sound from a traditional source that you would like to have an option of presenting in a less than traditional manner, you chose a signal path that consits of either a mic or compressor that, distorts is not the word i want, ummm…(he holds his finger up) warps the sound a bit. yes.” so this signal path for the third verse of rescue was my sitting on the couch singing into a copper phone (made by the bass player of the polyphonic spree) into a danelectro nifty 50 mic’d with 421 into neve1272 into the purple mc77. i am so glad to feel. i think it’s all there…

hey David just dropping by to say hi
dude….i am so stoked. can’t wait…
are you really David crowder?
your such a stud
I must say that I think this is really neat what you guys are doing, sharing your recording process with online journals and live streams of video. I can’t think of anyone else who is doing that, and it’s very cool, very exciting for those that enjoy what you do. Keep it up, have fun, and stay safe.
God bless.
holy cow, i’m so excited about this, and SO ready for it. good luck and God bless, dude.
yay for danelectro.
hi david, i found your xanga!!! god bless you
cool stuff. feeling is mos definitely good. i’ll be lookin forward to that sound.
hey i was wondering if you or any of the other guys had anythin you wanted us to pray for. us being everyone who reads this blog.
Is this REALLY David Crowder’s Xanga? Does Crowder even have time to blog?
Yay!!
Did something similar the other day. Couldn’t get the right sound out of my brother-cousin’s yamaha xg organ patch. It’s amazing what you get when you run it through a tube screamer, a digital delay and then pipe it through a few 6L6′s into a nice 12 inch speaker. Can you say John Lord??
Peace love and crabs.
looking forward to listening to the song “rescue.”
I’m glad you feel. That’s very important, and there’s not enough of it these days…especially, I think, in your…(is “genre” the right word?) “field” of music. I apologize for being judgmental, but…
At any rate, this blog is definitely excellent and well worth my time, every time. Keep up the work.
i think that all just totally flew right over my head and went far (but wisdom is a wonderful gift)…i just enjoy the music and the way God uses you! have fun today recording!
Bless God!!!
wow… so many crazy innovative ways to use mics and add effects to voice… its so confusing…
Wow…you’ve really peaked my interest about the album, especially “Rescue”…not that it wasn’t already peaked! Good luck and God bless!
ooo wow I’m really excited about your new songs =] just remember… you’ll get over those LOUD construction noises as long as you rock out louder than they are
rock on =]
crowder! i’m in the studio too. i wish the studio i was in looked like that. more home like. i’ll try and get some pics for you. i’ll check in later!
is resuce a new song or is like the one that goes – i need you jesus to come to my rescue, where else can i go?
just wondering
la
wow, you guys do some crazy stuff in that place.
Thanks for informing me of your real xanga! I can’t understand why someone would pretend to be you. I wanted to thank you for following God’s calling!! We have been so blessed by the music God had created through you guys!!!! ~Stacy
I love you statement about life making some of us not to feel, the best verse that comes to mind is in Isaiah He said, “Go and tell this people: ‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’ Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”
sometimes people don’t know what state they are in until someone speaks it out to them, or sings it out to them.
Keep Rocking For Jesus
and Thanks ^_^
i LOve your music
~be blessed by God on this day michelle =]
David, that is by far the coolest micing trick I have ever heard of in my life.
hey, i randomly came across your site today. i read most of it, procrastinating from what i was supposed to be doing. your entries totally crack me up. several of them made me laugh for several minutes, and for that i thank you. as a single american girl living in northern africa i don’t often have that happen.
thanks for being true to who you are, and choosing to share some of yourself with the world.
–a sister very far away <><
p.s. my roomie and i listen to your music occasionally. just thought you might like to know that you’re spreading to other continents.
hey david! i think it’s awesome that u guys can show us what u’re doing.. i can’t wait to hear some of your new songs that you’ve come up with! <3
I had absolutely no idea that micing vocals could be so involved. Wow. And thanks Shane for the explanation, hehe.
David, as a geek, I thank you for all the gory details on recording.
Gotta question though. Can I get some contact info on the people that did your photo shoot? I’m in a band in Dallas and we need some photos for our upcoming album. We’re having some trouble finding anyone in Texas that does good work.
Just leave me a comment on my xanga with any info.
Thanks
Skyler

i agree.. feeling is a spectacular thing!
nice pictures.
hey! your group is awesome and i love your music!!

dang that sounds complicated
reading that sent chills up my back, it is so true that there are some people who simply just can’t feel anything anymore, people always wish that they didn’t have any problems in their life anymore and yadda yadda, but life would be so boring, and you would never have that awesome learning experience and idk… sometimes you need to be the weak one, be the one running to God as opposed to God yelling at you getting your attention and bopping you on the head for your stupidty.
sry, i got off on a rant here, but i completely understand what your saying, and thats awesome… congrats on the song
have an awesome day
–Karsen
Awesome combination of stuff to record with!

You are seriously one of the coolest people I’ve ever known….you’re mind is so much more incredible than mine could ever be…..and I love how you put signal path stuff into your posts….along with other random tidbits of intrument information….it’s awesome…it really helps me…thanks…..can’t wait for the new CD to come out…..

I love watching ya’ll record. It will be really cool when I get the cd, knowing that I watched it form. Makes me feel like part of the family. You should put a picture of your wife up. I’ve always heard that she is really pretty but I’ve never seen her.
“ Careful: Small objects, like hard candy, may inadvertently become lodged in the throat. Hard candy is not appropriate for small children. “
As found on the back of the “Everlasting” Gobstopper candy box.
How do you as a musician feel about hard candy? <
I was surprised to get an email fron you, that was neat. Thanks for taking a sec to do that. God bless yah bro.

Good luck with the rest of the album. I can’t wait to hear it. May God bless you and be with you DAILY!
P.S. Thanks for having a Xanga. I think it makes some people like myself feel more of a personal connection to ‘famous’ persons as yourself. Thanks for being a down-to-Earth yet amazing artist.

David, I want to say thanks for your inspiring worship. I am learning how to lead worship, and I have taken a great deal of encouragement by your worship. You are the man. I hope the new album is even better than illuminate. although I am not sure that is an achieveable goal by any ordinary musician, I believe you have the power to make it happen (although its gonna take a lot of work). Thanks so much man…
By the way, if you ever need a djembe player for a song or album, my email is juddybuddy36@hotmail.com… ~Justin S.
Thanks for doing what you do.
Can I get a taste of the lyrics… and maybe you can help me… what drives your lyrics… like i want to become a better writter, but sometimes i just feel like my lyrics don’t seem deep enough or like nobody would ever want to sing that to God or something… i dunno man… any pointers to good song writting?… cause your pretty good at it your self.
David, whatup bro. Just wanted to stop in and thank you for UBC. I was having a hard time when i lived in waco and God helped me outh through UBC so thanks again. and it was awesome to get to worship with you every sunday, very cool bro. well God Bless
i admit that i was skeptical at first but i had a feeling about this site from the second i stumbled across it. now that i’ve looked quite thoroughly at your site i am 100% sure it is the one and only David Crowder behind this site. i loved the little bit about the guy hiding in the barn, hilarious. keep up the good work, God will reward your efforts as he has in the past.
oh my.. i’m so excited to listen to ur cd it’s giving me major napoleondynamitedancesyndrome.. i think i might just… lift my hands and spin around. no, i won’t. i’ll just smile and say… SWEET =)
dude i just wanted to tell u about how uve affected my walk with christ and i kno it sounds weird to say that a band did so much but ur music was playing in a moment when i was having a breakdown and “undignified” is now forever stuck in my head, i try to live up to the words in the bible by king soloman(i think) saying “ill become even more undignified than this”. Because of ur music i made it through the breaktrthough and back into my life with christ thank you
-Sammy Mills
