thank you,
just got back from a cruise. a cruise, as in a boat, upon the ocean, on which we played music. it was the “k-love friends and family music cruise” and, wow… speechless…
anyway, while in the middle of the atlantic ocean we had no mobile phone service or internet. actually, we were, theoretically, intended to have both, but i couldn’t figure out how to work either of them in international waters. lots of numbers and passwords and more numbers and, but that’s not the point. here’s the point: toni (my wife) and i just returned home and immediately commenced the typical routine, upon return – consume food items at ninfas, retrieve ground mail, observe progress on our house being remodeled (yes, the dr. pepper house), discuss how old we will be when it, said house, is actually finished and livable, transport our travel-bags (luggage) to “the barn” where toni and i currently reside since the house is uncompleted (nor will be before i am 47 and toni is 45 apparently), remove my nonsensically vivid-orange-laptop (recently emblazoned by 2 munificent stickers) from its holder, observe and respond to email, observe guestbook entries on the dc*b website, removing any stupid bot-oriented-spam or over-exuberant entries by, say, my mom, observe my happy-little-blog, located here, which upon this occurrence lead me to amazon.com book review entries, which then, lead me to tears. you people…
i mean, i must say, it is an unbelievable thing – to mention a thing, rather in passing, board a boat, bound for atlantic islands unknown, then, return home to dry land to behold names which i recognize, and know, and know well, conveying such things as were conveyed. i literally cried. i am weak. seriously, thank you for taking such time. unbelievable…
here are the fantastic words offered for which we are grateful…
this little book is a tough little sale, being about death and bluegrass and all, and you won’t know how this helps, or how much it meant to me and hogan to read your name and take in your kindness. seriously, thank you.
but, the real question is, obviously, who’s stickers are on my orange laptop, anyway? am i right, or am i right?!

Comments (88)
you are totally right. that is the question.
you look so excited to be in that life jacket.
YES!
your orange laptop is the coolest. i would so love to have one like that.
anyways, being on a cruise is pretty funn.
glad you had fun.
yay for cruises and orange laptops.
did you take a swim?
I have that hat and wear it nearly every day. I’m pretty sick.
nice life jacket
Yes you are right!
Mr. Crowder, or can I just call you David? Anyway, I need to tell you that me and three of my good friends took a roadtrip down to Waco, TX JUST for Dr. Pepper. Yes we got in a car, departed Grand Rapids, MI and took the long drive down to Waco explicitly for Dr.Pepper. It was the most glorious liquid I have ever tasted…cane-sugar Dr.P that is. Glad to hear your cruise went well.
The Dr. Pepper house? I live off Dr. Pepper! I’m from the Dallas area and that is Dr. Pepper country. Everyone drinks it and we are all addicted to it. I’m in shock and awe that the above poster drove from Michigan to Waco for the original DP. I mean, I know it’s good, but that is such dedication. If only we had that kind of dedication for the Lord all the time. Anyway, would you happen to have a picture of the Dr. Pepper house you could post? I’m just curious to see what it looks like.
Glad you enjoyed your cruise!
could you post a pic of you and your wife together?
Was their bluegrass on top of the deep blue? Oh – the anxiety of the stickers.
so my youth minister was on that trip! his brother is Jeff Jones, the drummer for Big Daddy Weave.
correct.
and only two stickers?
i’m sure you got more love than that.
I recall a promise for an ‘after’ picture…
yay comment number 17 thats the closest number 1 i have ever had on this site..i feel special
bahaha love the pic
ok, you’re very good at suspense. now cut it out, because i’ve been wondering. which is an odd thing to wonder, “what stickers did he put on his laptop!?” i’m pretty sure there are some more interesting things about your life, like why is it taking so long to remodel the Charles Alderton house?
Your orange laptop rocks!
I am one of those guys from the “epic” Mars Hill group that drove 3 and a half hours from the facebook-organized trip.
I just wanted to say that your book has revealed 2 things to me:
(1) David Crowder + Mike Hogan is almost twice as deep as a book co-written by G. K. Chesterton and St. Augustine would be.
(2) God probably plays the banjo.
Keep it up, guys! You’ve helped teach me a very important lesson- When I create, I reflect a creator. In that way, my stories, songs, and art are things that can bring me closer to God- things I shouldn’t be ashamed of, but instead things that I should celebrate when they bring glory to Him. Who knows? Maybe when one soul is lifted, others will join along.
Hope you guys enjoyed the cruise. K-Love Rocks.
haha! you two look mad safe in that pic.
I’m almost done with the book. So far for most of it i was wondering what the point of the history of the study of the soul and bluegrass had anything to do with death. But hey I finally got the part where you start to explain things. Also there were points where i cried. Thought not because it was a bad book (I like it) but because it touched me in my recent loss. But hey, thanks for writing the book!
i know that feeling… this pic was on the amazon river. (ever see the movie ANACONDA?)

Dude…i miss John and Sherry. How was little Lexi? Did you stay up eating SoftServe all night like i did last year? Did you meet Jess the nanny for the Rivers? She’s an awesome friend of mine and i miss her too. Wish that we (aka the Agnew Band) could have gotten a chance to hang out with you guys.
Hope you had fun…yeah the K-cruise is insanity to say the least…yeah i said it. Insanity.
David Crowder….have you ever had any Dublin Dr Pepper? I must hear your answer….if you haven’t then you haven’t tasted real DrP. Seriously! Let me know! Rach
Well, I think I can answer your question.
Seeing as how the stickers were sent to you and are now on YOUR ridiculously happy orange laptop… the stickers, sir, are yours.
They were someone else’s. But now they are yours.
You should have Shane Barnard collaborate with you on a song… a song where he triple-strums for at least 1/4 of the song.
ha ha,a very epic photo of you two
,well im glad you guys servived the trip , and i still have not mailed my stickers to you yet but they are so gunna get mailed to you this week, and i wanted to tell you i got a mog!see here
http://mog.com/veritas
i got one cause ben gibbard had one and if you dont know who he is,hes the lead singer for the band called “death cab for cutie” hes a really cool guy, i think you will love to mog cause its all about music and if you read bens first post you will laugh cause he sounds like you and he loves woody guthrie, well i will say a prayer that your home get finished ahead of schedule, and please pray for me that i get a new job cause my old one ended, thanks, your the best internet friend ever
christopher from newport church http://WWW.NEWPORTCHURCH.COM
You are right! I’m keeping my fingers crossed to see a Pearl Jam sticker on there…
Later,
Rich
Saratoga, NY
I’m getting ready for a cruise in March… But alas… No Crowder music on that boat. But thanks to my trusty iPod, you will be with me wherever I go… Sorry… I guess that’s a little freaky… But there’s an interesting topic of discussion. Does the iPod foster true Christian unity through the sharing and consumption of wonderful music, or does it promote a false relationship with people you don’t know which leads to freaky comments like the one above?
…And so Mr. Crowder leaves us all in suspense.
sweet…can’t wait for it, i guess i owe you 10 dollars. that was really just a ploy to get you to respond, i’m sure u caught it. but you responded anyways. ur the man.
u guys look cute in those life vests
Cinder-freakin-rella, man. But for real….I need laptop pictures….I’m fonna ’bout to start cryin’ soon.
that is indeed the question. and i love how even on a cruise in a lifejacket, you find a crowder jacket
SO:
A. You look scared out of your wits in that picture.
B. I think my friends have been to your house and talked with you.
C. I’d like to buy the book mentioned above, but seeing as no one will hire me for work because of my college and church schedule, my bank account is very low and I just made it lower the other day by having to by a $55 online text book. I will try to keep in mind that your book is the next thing I intend to buy once my money gets back into the $30 range. : )

For what it’s worth, I’m glad that you blog here and you haven’t abandoned Xanga for MySpace.
Congratulations on winning MSN artist of the Year!! Whoo hoo!! I’m so glad: I listent to your music all the time and love it. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
~Emily~
you are most definitely right.=)
K-Love cruise – that’s something. I listen to K-Love all the time. I look forward to more posts – & pictures???
i wish that i could post a comment about your book on amazon.com, but i guess they require that you be a memeber, and you have to buy something before you can become a member…
the real reason for this random comment (it being random because i don’t actually know you) is that i got very excited today. i have always loved the ending of “a colision”, the way that you wove “the Lark Ascending” into “i’m trying to make you sing”. then you guys came out to Olathe Kansas and played your last concert with us, ending with “a lark ascending” leading into “soon…be lifted or hope rising”. then you and mr. hogan wrote a book together and so amazingly formed the columns section centred around the lark… so there is this thought deapth attatched to the lark ascending for me now. well, my mom recently baught season tickets to the kansas city ballet and we have been going together and taking friends and such. it’s been great to experience it together. anyway, i was looking at the performance schedule to save the date of the next performance, and i found out that in may they are performing a piece that is none other than “Lark Ascending” by Ralph Vaughan Williams. this little lark has now made himself known through the violin, through poetry, through your’s and hogan’s literary work, and now he will make an appearance with movement and motion. the connecting is incredible to me. just thought i’d share with you my excitement at the endless ways that things are strung together.
you are right! i want to see the stickers!
Yes, that is the question. But the sad thing is I haven’t sent any.
Now, I have this huge cool looking bumper sticker for my friend’s band, Serpentine Brown. I thought about sending it to you as I am not using it, but then again it’s not a Christian band. Wasn’t sure if that would go over. Plus it’s a bumper sticker – it’s HUGE!
Then I saw some sticker at work (I’m a medical student) about being up to date on your vaccinations….but why on Earth would you want that on your computer?
So unfortunately I didn’t really have any cool stickers to send you way.
Sad, but true. Now…what ended up on your screaming orange machine?
And why is remodeling the house taking so long?
cruises are awesome.
and so was your book.
I love the ocean! It’s so… wet.
Your very loved. I never saw the lap-top furnished with all those stickers, though. Maybe I missed that post =)
You make me laugh!
i saw you at Vox tonight. teehee.
Thanks for visiting Vox.
that’s one AWSOME pic! nice~ have a Victorious week DCB! God bless peace
Hey David, this is a long shot but can you vote for me on threadless.com? I have some new designs up and it’ll be cool to see your thoughts on them. if you goto my xanga, you can see my post about this. thanks
daniel
i’m still reading your book. it’s amazing so far, so i’m looking forward to finishing it! =)

I’ve got both of your books..just gotta find the time to read them now.
so….i wanna see the stickers on the orange mac! and welcome back to waco
DC…just out of curiosity…how many years have past since you were brought into this planet?
hey your life jacket matches your computer!
ohh you have an orange laptop?? awesomeness!!
i dare say, you are right. so…
I know that this is random…but it is really funny! I saw a commercial the other day for a local KC business. Here was their slogan…
“Midwest Hemerroid Treatment Center….Don’t Suffer in Silence”!
All of this was of course worded to a very catchy sing-song tune and a typical Kindergarten teacher singing voice. You may find this funny, or you may find this disturbing. Either way, I laughed my tail off when I heard it!
God Bless!

I will write up a review. I enjoyed the book. Also, I sent some stickers for your bright orange laptop. Hope you got them.
Very Awesome job at Hot Hearts this year! It was my first year to attend and I was amazed. Thanks guys, God Bless.

Your book is taking my focus away from Military History and Vietnamese History.
Not sure yet whether to chide you or thank you.
well my first guess would have to be since it is orange is that they are non other then for the greatest school in the nation, Oklahoma State University.
and i also wanted to tell you that i bought your newest book for my dad for Christmas and i am reading your first book right now. you are a gifted writer. keep up the good work and God will continue to bless you my friend.
Could you tell us a story next week at UBC?
you know, david, you look exactly like my brother jesse. only difference is that he has straighter darker hair. it’s uncanny. I wish I had a picture on my computer of him to upload so you could see your identical twin.. he has very similar glasses too
David,
I recently reviewed the book for the Oral Roberts University paper…would you like me to send it along to you? You can myspace me at myspace.com/oklahomasky if that’s more convenient.
That book came a perfect time in my life, having faced many of the same questions and been grappling with the truth and figuring out how humanity has arrived at this point. I hope to share the same kind of wisdom and insight with others…
[All formality aside...you guys rock my freakin' face off.]
*Rachel
still waiting to see that laptop… please, pretty please
can we get a new post my brotherrrrrrrrrrrrrr?
heard you were really sick and barely made it to Fort Lauderdale, hope you feel better soon. Thanks for ministering sacrificially to my sister in FL. She reallly appriciated it. I will be praying that you will get some (i’m sure) much needed rest and renewed energy.
2 thumbs up on the new song. i even heard a car full of four guys asking each other what the name was cause they liked it so much.
keep
um, so you read these responses (notice how no one every calls the initial post a sponse?) so i thought you should know that i’ll be at your church on march 11. just thought you should know. also, is the dr. pepper museum cool?
Write more about the K-Love cruise.
you have such a way with words! u look better with a guitar than a lifejacket, btw! kor
DAVID CROWDER BAND ROCKS!!!!!
Awesome! I just pondered across this site after buying “A Collision” You are great at what you do and God has given you a wonderful talent to share with the world. I did go to concert with Third Day this past October and might I say, you are one awesome performer.
Keep it up!
Good luck in all that you are doing this year and God Bless!
Chelsea
I hope this doesn’t make you really mad… but I put together a slide show of a trip I led to do relief work in New Orleans this past weekend. I put the pictures to your song “Thank you for Hearing Me.” I know it’s not exactly what you were going for with the song, but I thought it would be a good song for the slideshow. Anyway, the only way I know to share it is to post it on YouTube, but I know that doing that violates all sorts of royalty rights you have to the song. So, I’m basically just letting you know that it’s out there in case you don’t want it out there. If you don’t, I’ll be happy to take it off. Here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPua8Tf8kWg
If you don’t mind, I might like to share it with the office that helped lead the trip as well… if it bugs you, you can just let me know on my blog: http://www.joshelek.blogspot.com and I’ll get rid of it. I would understand if you don’t want me to keep it because it does use your song and everything.
Sorry. And thanks.
Hey man, thanks for loaning Mike D. to me for a few days. We had a blast!! If you are bored, you can watch him on video on my myspace. (/cjbergmen)
Hey David,
Just was thinking about your blog, wondering what is going on in your life right now. I hope all is well with you and Toni. Update when you have a chance.
Tunz
I’ll tell you right here right now, I love your’s and Mike’s book. Amazing and innovative.
hi dave, how are you doing today?
alright, this might be the third time i’ve commented on this one note, but such is life. heard you were on vacation. i met your pastor friends, ben d. and john mark. very cool cats. your church is amazing, but i’m sure you know that. hopefully we’ll have something similar up and running here in murfreesboro. and i concur with those who have previously mentioned cane sugar dr pepper. its the best. forget corn syrup. that junk needs to go. well, i hope your vacation went well. have a great weekend.
