  • …the last shall be first and such and so on w/favorite comment

after 20 years the baylor bears men’s basketball team is back in the ncaa tournament! they were the 65th team named out of a field of 65. the reason i am excited by this is because they will totally win the national championship now, based on the rules proclaimed in the holy scriptures – the last being first, and such, and so on. and, this is exciting, of course, because i live in waco and studied music at baylor. seriously, they are so gonna win. i hereby pick baylor. so it has been written, so shall it be done.

i’m curious who you will be cheering for. i need to know. this will allow me to feel wretched for you when your team is annihilated by my team, which, my team will hence forth also be known as “cinderella.”

  • i am on the baylor bandwagon.

  • Wishful thinking. :) Go Michigan State!

  • Hello.

Similar Story for my school last year.

CSULB made the big dance in like 15 years or so.

So not as long as a drought.

Senior Year, Conference Champs, Big Dance, Feeling good and all…

…Only to be humbled by Tennessee.  LOL

Only back to be buried in the depths of the no shows to the dance this year.

I usually default to rooting for PAC-10 teams but since reading your story this year, I’ll root for Baylor.

I can relate to where you’re coming from.

    Go Bears.

  • i have no idea if we’re still in it, but im cheering for the maryland terrapins =)

  • i’m totally rooting for k-state!  go cats!

  • Michigan State… but that’s where I’m originally from… otherwise I might pick Baylor, since we don’t live terribly far from there…

Then again… I don’t watch sports. I get very bored.

  • Sorry man, but I’ve gotta root for Chapel Hill. I’ve been a UNC fan since I was about eight years old and that is where I’m going to school next year. Gotta represent my ACC CHAMPIONS! But I’ve got Baylor making some progress in the tournament, so never fear, Dave.

  • do you like queen?

  • i’m fairly confused about how there can be 65 teams.

  • I just thought that I would let you know that I angered an entire room of Purdue fans by declaring my propensity toward Baylor when the announcement was made on Sunday.  The only explanation that I could give when pressed was, “well, david crowder went to baylor and I would like to see them do well.”  You’re welcome.

  • queen = flamboyant and ludicrous. “bicycle race” is my favorite! brian may = epic.

    @Bryant -

  • i went to cornell and i’m fairly certain that our students are more un-athletic than yours :D doesn’t that make US the cinderella?

  • I don’t really follow basketball, but I’ll try to be David-Crowder-like cool and go for Baylor Bears… Hockey is much cooler though…. EH?

  • I could care less about baseball or whatever it is you are talking about.

    Let’s talk about some music.

  • sorry, but i wanna see UCLA go to the final four for the 3 time consecutively and actually win it. i believe in kevin love.

  • i go to UConn right now.. our women’s team is doing awesome!
our guys… they’re a little shaky right now, lost to west virginia just recently.

completely random, but i was just listening to “we won’t be quiet” and i was wondering what you’re yelling in the intro, interludes from chorus to verse, and the end? our band and i were trying to figure it out, and we thought it sounded like either “no” or “now” or “loud”… we’re trying to do a cover of it for a concert we’re holding to raise funds for our short term missions trips. it’s a shame we don’t have megaphones to use though for the song..

  • it’s all about the spartans! Go Green!!!!

  • I’m cheering for a 10 seed – University of Arizona Wildcats!

  • I’m obviously for the Crimson Tide, but since they stink royally, I am pulling for the Tarheels. And the only way they could play baylor is in the title game, so thats just how its gonna have to be.

  • I feel irreligious for not caring about basketball, since all my friends are violently passionate about it. Maybe I should vote for your team, since they’re logically bound to win. Now would be a good time to start betting.

  • Cinder-Freaking-Rella!! Hahaha

    go Illini (University Of Illinois)

  • If Baylor wins the tourney i’ll get a BU tattoo. Mark my words.

  • Have u tooken a bath yet or trimed the hair??? i smell something and im not sure if its coming from waco or not.

  • K-State all the way! Go Cats!!!

  • I am a K-State alumni and I would be overjoyed if they won the tournament. However, I was raised by a family of die hard KU fans (yes, I have been excommunicated) and old loyalties are hard to break. When it comes to basketball, I still think I root for KU over K-State in my heart, but please do not tell my husband or my father. One will feel betrayed and the other will be too smug to live with, even if it’s long distance. Honestly, I am rooting for both teams. I guess what I’m trying to say is, Go Cats and Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

P.S.-  My husband has worked out the brackets three times and he says that every time he does it, KU comes out winning even though he’s not doing that intentionally. He has Baylor winning the first round then losing to Xavier. Sorry.

  • I forgot to mention in my other post that we were offered free tickets to the Big 12 Tournament but we had to turn them down because we were attending a youth rally with my youth groups. My husband was very disappointed and says I owe him big time.

  • What was your major at Baylor?

    And yeah… K-State

  • Michigan State, though if Baylor pulls it off I’d be most impressed with you.

  • Baylor, of course!  for more or less the same reason as you – you used to study music at Baylor, and I’m almost studying music at Baylor (freshman mus. ed major this coming fall) :D  Sic ‘em!

  • CLEVELAND CAVILERS ALL THE WAY!!!

    what?  im crazy?

no, dear david, you are.  this will indeed be the biggest upset in history.  More so than when the greeks attacked the russians in 465 B.C.  Oh yea.  Worse than that!

    Cleveland will demolish baylor.

    completely

    totally

    and happily

  • Here’s a thought….

    BOOMER SOONER!!!

    That is all.

  • Uh…I’m going for the Longhorns…duh!

    =)

  • BU

    we are but men, ROCK!

  • kstate. there seem to be a few of us representing the little apple here.

however, it would be nice to see cinderella dance this year. that is if the cats don’t pounce her.

    go state.

  • Great post, David!  I’m rooting for my USC Trojans (c/o 2003)!

    Here’s USC’s fight song:

    http://fightmusic.com/mp3/pac10/USC__Fight_On.mp3

    Fight On for ol’ SC
Our men Fight On to victory.
    Our Alma Mater dear,
    looks up to you
    Fight On and win
    For ol’ SC
    Fight On to victory
    Fight On!

    —–My own spin on it————

    Fight On for ol’ JC
He will Fight On to victory
    Our Lord and Savior dear,
    He died for you
    Fight On not sin
    For ol’ JC
    Fight On to victory
    Fight On!

    Victory sign a la Churchill:

  • haha, dude, you should fill in those brackets (if you happen to have the infamous facebook) i think they have it on yahoo too. i’m all UCLA.

  • crowder- this it tguthrie (ghost of pepper)…. i’m rooting for the hoosiers but they have fallen apart.  everytime i see baylor on tv i think about you.

don’t know if you have looked at my blog lately, but i’m getting ready to start chemo for hodgkins.  keep me in your prayers brother.

  • I bleed Duke Blue.

  • CAROLINA ALL THE WAY!

oh yeah, baby, #1 seed, ACC champs.

(i live in chapel hill, btw)

  • OH I JUST WATCHED A “Cinderellas of the Dance” clip on yahoo, about the NCAA.

Tragically sorry to say, Baylor was not on it. But it’s just because they have no knowledge of the power of the bible.

No, the perceived cinderellas seem to be the owls and the mountaneers. OH this guy JUST got reaaaally excited abuot the Winthrop Eagles. Let’s see Baylor beat them! (but still Carolina for the win)

  • i am not a sports fan.

however each and every year i am asked to fill out one of these brackets. my system is simple: root for the schools i’ve heard of. because of this i must say that in my bracket baylor does very well. i think they make it to the final four. however, being from pittsburgh, they will ultimately win. i’ve heard of them the most. then again, i suppose it’s going to go to the team that pisses on the locker room walls before the game?godspeed, jason

  • Im looking for Kent State to make a run.

  • But then if Baylor won this year they would subsequently have to come in last place next year because then they’d be the first and have to be the last! What a vicious cycle!

  • MSU all the way, go spartans

  • I’m an Aggie.  I even work at Reed Arena in CS.  Can you guess who I’m for (both men and women)?

  • So it is written,

    So let it be done.

  • Cheering for UNC but only because if they lose my roommate could be very sad and possibly violent.

  • oh so sorry…they may have devil in their name but they are great! go duke! =)

  • well… my husband and sons will be cheering on the Kansas Jayhawks while I will be rooting for our own K-State Wildcats.  here’s to hoping that Beasley will pass the ball a bit.

  • it was

    prophesied

in days of old that a hairy one ( not you david) would lead them. he would enter in the armor of his time. air jordans, a headband and a generic tattoo. yes it was so written that this hairy one would dominate the enemy , lay aside his former oppressors and carry his people into the promise land. the final four.from the flanks his guards would advance demolishing  everything in their path. with a swipe of the proverbial paw, all that stood against them would certainly fall asunder.as the cheap vinyl took it’s final bounce on the hardwood; the spoils of war would be theirs. victory would be loudly proclaimed and the heralds would sing of these things for generations to come…so shall it be written, so shall it be done…in other words DA BEARS !!!!!!

  • It’s great to be a Tennessee VOL!  But, also go Bears! … until you play Tennessee, then down you must go….

  • Memphis.

Live or die for Tiger High.

  • I will be cheering for Wisconsin… I live there…and their logo is a giant “W” which can either be interpreted as foreshadowing of things to come (numerous wins) – or a blatant show of support for our current commander in chief. Knowing what I do about politics and the city of Madison, WI… I must assume the prior of the two…

  • OK…I’m rooting for Mississippi State, but they will most likely end up playing Memphis (#1 in the country)…so I don’t see them getting out of the 2nd round.  Overall I think UCLA will be able to take the championship…against Wisconsin (#1 defense in the country)

I don’t follow during the year, but this week is like Christmas for me.  I’m mad about March Madness!

  • Sic ‘em bears!

  • Texas A&M.  Scoreboard SUCKA!
If Bruce gets hot BU can go far.  It’s a guard’s tournament.

    Gig ‘em

  • Baylor will never make it out of the west. UCLA will win it all.

  • GO BAYLOR!!!  SIC’ EM BEARS!
What can I say, I go to BU, of course I’m gonna root for em!

  • Western Kentucky University all the way.  Go Big Red!

  • as a North Carolinian, I’ll proudly be cheering for UNCChapel Hill – TARHEELS BABY!!!

  • @ senordiecast,

there are 65 teams because there is a preliminary game betweent st. mary’s something and coppin state or whoever. the winner of that game will go on to be demolished by my UNC tarheels. just like every other team that plays them before they become national champs. sorry david. but we can all dream. go heels!

    *wombat*

  • the University of Georgia Bulldogs.  number 14 seed in the same bracket as your Baylor. oddly enough if yall sumhow beat Purdue, yall will then have to play either UGA or Xavier… it will be UGA, and we will end your cinderella story and carry on our own. GOOOOO DAWGS!!!!!!! Sic’m WoofWoofWoof!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Glory Glory to ole’ GEORGIA!
    Glory Glory to ole’ GEORGIA!
    Glory Glory to ole’ GEORGIA!
    And to heck BAYLOR—–!!!!!!!!

  • I’m rooting for Marquette, because Marquette sounds so nice and French.

    Eh, it’s all a wild guess anyway…

  • hm. i never thought about it that way.  this gives me renewed hope for northwestern!
being 11th in the Big Ten is quite an accomplishment in and of itself though..

  • Belmont University ALL THE WAY!

  • @runningfromthedark - we’ll be praying. keep us updated.

  • I think I like the name Baylor Bears…so i know they are gonna win.

    heck yeah.

  • Um Hello, go Georgia Bulldawgs!!!! That’s a cinderella story as well!

  • im sorry.  my ucla bruins will sweep through the tournament.

  • mike whang is hoping that usc will play well.  but they wont.

then again, i have a bias.

  • I love Cinderella!  I’m a loyal Oregon Ducks fan, though.  :)

  • UCLA. Shipp, Love, Collison are all pretty awesome. And how much cooler can a team get than to have a guy with the last name “Mbah a Moute?”

  • LOL!!!!!!!!!
i was going to just leave it at that b/c you successfully cracked me up, of course, but since you asked – i think i picked UCLA.  if i had more guts, i’d say UGA, only b/c that’s my alma mater.
but i like your sound logic and write up.
hey!  one of your songs just came on!!!  awesome.

  • my team was the Cinderella three years ago and I believe they can do it again!

    GO MASON!!!

  • Actually, David, I believe Georgia was probably the last team in as their only way of making the NCAA tourney was to win the SEC Tourney, which they did. They were 13-16 before the tourney then went on a four game winning streak including having to win two games in one day because a tornado hit the Georgia Dome so they had to reschedule their game and they only have eight scholarship players. The Baylor story is a great one considering all the junk they had to go through a few years ago but I’m going to be rooting hard for the Dawgs. I’m a life long Dawgs fan and I want to see the miracle run continue. I believe if Georgia and Baylor win their first round games they would match up with each other in the second round. How cool would that be?

  • go BU! (i’ll support them since my gators aren’t around ) nice song choice. so, i’m with bryant here, DO you like queen?

  • The Wildcats of Kansas State University are without a doubt the team most likely to underachieve in the tourney.  I believe like KSU, the Baylor women will definitely go farther in their respective tournaments.

  • University of Kansas… even though I should not admit that in public, but oh well…

  • I love the favorite comment, I’m impressed someone picked that out of an entire post about Baylor…who by the way needs to get it together, or they will be the first mark on my currently perfect bracket. :(

  • I picked the Bears to beat the Boilermakers on my March Madness bracket. :(

    DA BEARS F41L :(

  • Ok David, I too, selected Baylor over Purdue…I thinking it’s David Crowder, God gives him songs.  Well, evidently He doesn’t share with you His tournament picks.  That’s ok,  I am still 7 of 8.
    Shari

  • My USC Trojans F41Led. :(   Congratulations to all the Kansas State Wildcat fans out there.  Your team wanted it more and Beasley and Walker were dialed in.

Then again, we’re a football and baseball school anyway! :o )

  • Being the proudest member of the fightin’ Texas Aggie class of 2011(A……..), I must pick my beloved Aggies. We won last night!!

  • I was pulling for UCLA and NC in the finals…see how well that went, huh?

Funny, I stumbled across this blog while listening to Queen. Must be some kind of omen. Perhaps I should’ve bid on the fish sticks.

  • Crimson Tide, but since they stink royally, I am pulling for the Tarheels. And the only way they could play baylor is in the title game
