official band news w/favorite comment and other consequential nonsense
i am happy to inform you that a limited edition of the remedy cd will be in stores tomorrow. it is double disc, one being the remedy cd with one additional track, the radio version of “never let go” which in my opinion is way cooler than the album version, and also a dvd that has 4 live songs from our remedy tour. i genuinely can’t wait for you to see them. they were recorded in atlanta at the tabernacle and new york city at the hammerstein ballroom and are a peek at what’s to come. oh! and i had them include the foreverandever etc… video as it may cause you to smile when you behold it on something other than a computer screen in all of its uncompressed glory. magnificent.
my favorite comment comes from brody and it is this: @jessylindaz – David knows better than to give me best comment. But thanks for noticing
a few other comments i thought were particularly fantastic:
this one submitted by emprise34, he even titled it:
title: overly verbose response to the comments surrounding
the previously released “official bad news” [sic]i must apologize, and i hope it is not too late. i made a
few assumptions in my happy post about the remedy limited edition release. i
know you to be informed readers that want for nothing outside of greater good
to exist in the world, which is why you and i get along so well, so, i should
have taken the opportunity of this release to inform you what purposes limited
editions serve and to what end they exist and how possibly they came to be and
why in turn you may or may not be interested in them.i’d first like to say, my hope was to simply inform those
who might care for such a thing, that we were offering such a thing. this
seemed obvious to me. however, i now feel the need to acknowledge a major
fundamental assumption and it was this: that you, being a music lover as
am i, make your musical purchase decisions the same way i do. that is,
obviously, a ludicrous and self centered assumption – to assume we are the
same. i mean granted, there have been signs at times that this was the case,
but never-the-less, it is a flawed assumption. for this i am sorry.so i shall first describe my personal reaction to artists i
enjoy releasing limited editions of projects i already own.ok, if say, jimmy buffet (universal crowd pleaser example)
released a limited edition of “fruitcakes” i would not buy it. i own most of
jimmy buffet’s cds. they are pleasant to listen to while sitting in sunshine. they
also make you think of sunshine when it is cloudy and you are in a bad mood. i
like his “jimmy buffet” album best. i would say i mildly like jimmy buffet.if say, “the frames” (band from dublin whose lead singer is
one academy award winner glen hansard) released a limited edition of “the cost”
(“the frames” latest album) and all they added was a sticker of a beaver on the
front i would buy it. if they released different versions of the cover with
different stickers, with like say a duck, a rabbit, an ox and some type of
amphibian, not a salamander, i would totally buy each of the covers so i would
have all of the animals. i would say i really like the frames.i am the same way with books. i bought all 3 versions of
dave eggers’ “heartbreaking work of staggering genius”. all that changed was
the cover. one edition completely eliminated a rather large portion of the
first edition and i was pleased to do this, buy the same book again, but with
less in it. i enjoyed it. i also bought all 3 editions of his “they shall know
our velocity”. the second release was re-titled “sacrament” and was exactly the
same as the first except it included an insert from one of the characters in
the book. then it was re-released for imprint distribution and re-titled “they
shall know our velocity!” the difference being the exclamation point in the
title. this was thrilling to me, i kid you not. i am not well.but this is what i do. when i am deeply moved by an artist i
want to participate fully in all that they are attempting to produce and
distribute. i have been touched and i wish to touch back and this is the means
i have been given to lessen the distance between us.then there is this: i have knowledge of a few advantages
that limited edition cds afford to artists. i regret that i made the assumption
that these advantages are obvious.you may have noticed that cds are no longer afforded the
shelf life that they previously were given. this is in large part due to the
devaluation of music, monetarily speaking, and, in small part, due to the
growth of electronic distribution. both of these result in the hard artifact no
longer having the ability to cover the necessary costs for retail stores to
permit it shelf space that could instead hold a twinkie or something useful or
in demand. new releases and a handful of mega sellers are afforded the ever
coveted placement that says, “hey look, over here, you may find something
special,” and stores have no reason or incentive to reorder/restock a cd that
has been available for a good bit of time. a limited edition, however, is
viewed by retail as a new artifact. this means that the shelf life of this item
has been effectively extended, and, for the artist and the person who believes
in and supports this artist and thinks other people should also hear and
support this artist, this is, obviously, a good thing.now, here’s the punch line: i’m ok with being your “jimmy
buffet”, but i really want to be your “frames”.we’re trying to make music that pulls at the soul in a
special way and for those of you whom have felt this, thank you for
communicating such by making sacrifices, crazy sacrifices at times, to do so.
we’re blown away and inspired that anything we would do would be useful to you,
or move you, or become something that is special to you in some fashion. this
is both ridiculous and exactly what we’d hope.for those of you whom we have not had that transcendent
connection, i’ll offer this: i doubt i would take the time to comment on jimmy
buffet’s blog to inform him that i’ll not be buying his limited edition
“fruitcakes” cd or lecture him on the evils of the limited edition. that would
seem to me strange in some way. i’m pretty sure i would feel rather foul
inside if i were to do so and thus i would want to avoid this, the feeling foul
inside. and i’d kinda figure that jimmy would already expect that whoever would
be interested in something like this would buy it and whoever wasn’t wouldn’t
and to tell him that i would be one of those who wouldn’t might be, at best,
unnecessary or, at worst, a bit cruel, maybe, depending on jimmy’s sensitivity.unless, of course i wished to inform jimmy that i would
really, really like to purchase his limited edition but am currently flat dusty
broke and see no possible means of dollar bill acquisitions on the immediate
horizon, and please, dearest jimmy, let this be no reflection whatsoever on the
abundance of love and happy thoughts i hold regarding you. i’m sure jimmy would
smile endlessly after reading such a thing and wish that he could simply drop a
limited edition fruitcakes cd in the mail to me for being so thoughtful as to
make his day by saying such a thing in the comments section of his blog. yeah,
i’m pretty sure he’d love me forever.
love,
jimmy or glenand this one, also submitted by emprise34:
i deleted two of murlough23′s comments as i felt they did not paint him in the best light. he did reiterate his point that he doesn’t think it is proper to make people pay for the same songs again, but in doing so he made a few comments that were unnecessary and not very productive, i think. but to be fair, i’ll state again on his behalf. he really doesn’t like it when bands, or disney, release limited or special editions of things previously released. he, murlough23, really wants you to know that and then he will feel better. he views himself as sort of a consumer watch dog. he really, really doesn’t want me to dupe you into buying the same thing twice; so, if you don’t understand that the entire remedy cd is in this limited edition release of remedy, well then, please know that the only thing you are getting for your money is a different version of “never let go” (which murlough23 thinks is a crappy song anyway) and 4 live songs filmed in hd from the remedy club tour (which murlough23 apparently doesn’t like live versions of songs 99% of the time, unless he is there, and would just prefer to listen to the studio version) and of course the foreverandever etc… video.

dearest @murlough23 –
just because i make something does not give you the right to
it nor does it obligate me to allow you access to it. there are things i create
that i do not wish to share with the public at large. the act of creating and
the offering of the result of this act is a fragile transaction and i would
prefer to be selective with what i allow you to participate in as the general
public can be quite venomous and speak quickly without complete information or knowledge or tact or an awareness or concern toward the potential harm they might inflict, as
evidenced by your comment here.to validate my opinion on this i’ll use as
example your humbly offered suggestion that we should have included the
“better” version of the song on the cd in the first place. this is truly a
fantastic suggestion. near genius, i dare say. why in the world don’t more
bands do that, you know, include the best version of songs on their cd? dang.
that’s such a better idea than including the lesser versions. thank you. we’ll
keep that in mind for future recordings because that is absolute gold. however, in
this case we did not have this particular version of the song until we were
mid-way through our remedy tour and had the great fortune of playing the
song night after night in a live setting. but yeah, freaking heck, we should
from now on include the best versions of songs on our recordings, or, as you
said, just not call the recording finished until we do so.except we wouldn’t have been on tour had we not called the recording finished and therefore would never have created this skull crushing version of the song that we should have included the first time, but i think what you’re suggesting is seriously brilliant. please, include more of your thoughts in the comment section of my blog so that
we all my live better fuller lives.and finally, dearest murlough23, if you’ll include a mailing address, i’ll be happy to send you the new limited edition (the one you should have just waited to buy) free of charge so you won’t hold such bitterness regarding your contribution to our cause.

less than jimmyand, yes, this is ridiculous, but seriously, this also notable, and from emprise34; what searing, insightful words he pens:

sounds interesting! I may consider even though I do have the remedy CD already
*puts it on birthday list*
I definitely read this as “Official bad news.”
And.. I love dcb, but I hate when bands put out a “limited” version of the cd after I already bought the regular one. I’m not spending more money on something I already have. =
amen.
Thats great news…would love to get the “limited” cd but now what to do with the original cd….gonna have to find a friend who doesn’t have it and gift it to her….hee hee
Righteous!
i suppose that is cool for those with disposable income. however, since buying the original CD meant ramen noodles for dinner for a few nights, and consequently my stomach lining being “MSG’ed” to oblivion, this does not come as awesome news to me.
besides, those cell phone videos of you in san antonio when the sound system exploded during “surely we can change” can’t really be topped, and i saw the Foreverandever video on the Interlinc Music Video Loop (which bought you a few new young fans from the youth group I lead).
pleeeeease let the video clip be without evil digital restrictions management (drm). /me crosses fingers
I’m excited. I’ll have to watch my friends’ copies of course, as I’m pretty broke.
lol. good grief. the economy must be hurting if crowder fans won’t go and get the new cd. seriously, kids. crowd-dog and the crew are worth it. i’m getting it and a copy for a birthday present!
btw- watched a great behind the scenes youtube of you guys from the dove. very nice. love the deer names!
That is totally not fair!!! I already own one version, and money isn’t in enough supply to get the DVD-ness.
=(
Oh well, I got a bag and a guitar pick when I preordered the normal ‘Remedy’ so I guess that makes up for it.
Man.. will you guys ever stop devising evil schemes to take my money? heh heh heh
Actually, I’m looking forward to this release, so you can have it!
i’m a bit surprised with a few of the comments listed so far. actually alot. it’s not like CD’s or DVD’s cost all that much. plus, i would gladly support anything you guys do. i don’t know anyone that cares for their fan base like dcb. and, le met add, you’re the only ones that have ever bothered to answer a question i had. plus (i’m ranting now) you’ve allowed us time and again into your personal lives that we almost feel like we’re friends of yours. but, maybe that’s the problem here. they feel close enough to you to say whatever they feel regardless of your feelings. well, just so you know, this fan is pretty darn excited about this release and will be purchasing it as soon as possible.
*typing*
I don’t understand why people type things that they are doing and put stars by it
*scratches head* *resumes typing* *itches foot* *takes deep breath then sighs*
Cool about the CD and DVD though.
*stops typing*
yay!
Awesome! I was at the Tabernacle show, so I can’t wait to see it again!!! Plus the squirrel video is amazing.
brody wrote just to get best comment.
I read it as “official bad news” at first too. lol
you have to create part 2 of the forever and ever video. i’m still waiting to see what happens to cartoon david as the two acorns are headed toward his head at a blazing speed
dang, i had no idea about this until about 5 minutes ago when my friend caleb told me he pre-ordered it.
ahhh T_T if only this limited edition came out a month ago. i got it a month ago! rawr
For those who are worried about shelling out extra dough for this limited edition cd (having already purchased the “plain” version), my advice is to hold out until the live dvd is released.
It’s your money, but if you already own the “plain” version it would seem prudent to hold off on buying this newly packaged version, since doing so would mean owning duplicates of both the cd and DVD material (assuming you intend to purchase the official live DVD once it’s available).
I love DCB & gladly support what they do, but owning multiple copies of the same material doesn’t seem like great stewardship to me (for what it’s worth).
Got my preorder today. It’s delicious. Worth every penny folks.
I have to disagree… I absolutely LOVE the CD version of Never Let Go. It’s very real and powerful… it was perfect the way it was!
Congrats on Dove Awards… you guys rock!
“they were recorded in atlanta at the tabernacle and new york city at the hammerstein ballroom and are a peek at what’s to come.”
So… I’m guessing this means there will be another DVD with more eye candy to munch on?
Whew.
Man, if the original release has won the best Recorded Music Packaging…..that little red triangle in the upper right quandrant might have just BLOWN THEIR MINDS. I myself am having trouble forming words.
I already have it, its great!
nice
sweet
Nice. Keepin’ it interesting … maybe the extra special features will be on iTunes and I can just download them. We’ll see. Love these guys saw them earlier in the year in NYC. Was a killer concert for sure!
NOOOOOO!!! Limited edition CD? =(
Why now? Why art thou making me purchase another Remedy CD?
I can feel the life being sucked out of my starving wallet. Oh what pain, oh what pain.
Oh well, can’t wait to see the dvd. =D
@jessylindaz - David knows better than to give me best comment. But thanks for noticing.
So I’m most assuredly 16 bucks out and may forego a few tacobell trips this week but I don’t think I can put a price tag on the moment I just had during the performance of “Remedy” on the DVD.
Thanks sooooo much guys!
Yup, it definitely means there’s going to be an even-awesomer Live Remedy Club Tour DVD coming out soon.. w00t! And I’ve also heard things of a live CD as well.. which would be friggen awesome. I might actually just get this CD for the bonus radio version of Never Let Go, which I must agree, it’s tons better than the album version. =P Why didn’t you just use that version for the original album??
Oh, and can you please tell us which 4 songs are on the DVD??
@Is4ac - The songs on the dvd are: Here is our king, everything glorious, oh praise him and remedy. Plus you get the forever etc music vid. Its a great dvd, worth every penny.
@Abroham_Villela - Thanks, that makes me feel better. I definitely just ordered it from their site. Yay!
Here’s an idea – why not just compile all of the cool material you’ve got and put it all on the album the first time? And if one version of a song is cooler than the other, why put the other on the original version of the album to begin with? I don’t know if the label drives this stuff or if you do, but basically what we’re being taught by this “Special Edition” hype that so many (otherwise well-meaning) bands get caught up in nowadays is that we shouldn’t bother buying albums when they’re first released.
But wait! If your album hadn’t sold to begin with, a Special Edition would have never happened because there’s no way the label would dump more money into it! So there’s a catch-22 for ya.
Either way, I’m bitter, because I already bought the dang thing twice (the second time was because the first copy got stolen along with a bunch of my other CDs), and it only had 10 songs on it both times. Next time around, if you have extra material that you deem to be worth hearing, don’t hold out on us, man. And if it takes extra time to develop that extra material, maybe the album release needs to wait a bit until you’re, you know, actually done with it.
(Though obviously the live recordings don’t generally exist before the album is released, so I suppose you guys get a pass on that part.)
aww does it come on itunes?
borders overcharges and i dont think id buy it cuz i already have the remedy cd….
hm…am i the only one who can’t wait to hear david’s response to this negativity?!
SILENCE you peoples! and give to a MINISTRY for crying out loud. quit trying to get the best deal on God’s gifts. instructions: no money, don’t buy. earn money. save money. buy cd/dvd goodness. be happy.
hey mr. crowder~
if i get this, will you promise to sign it for me when i see you this summer at JAMA? LOL
jk… i’ll get it… and happen to bring it along with me to JAMA… along with a sharpie… and if by chance we find ourselves within a reasonable distance… i just may ask for an autograph and picture…
btw, i love reading your blog… you’re more down to earth than i thought (i don’t mean to offend you or anything by this)
wow Crowder….who knew a limited edition of your cd could create such an uprise?!? geez…some of these people can be rude! It’s not like you’re demanding that they buy it – just a simple suggestion. They should be thankful that you are giving them options and not complaining about it.
Got the new CD/DVD today ~ I think you should do sign language for “Everything Glorious” like Nicole C. Mullen does for “Redeemer” when she performs it! P.S. LOVE it

well, if we were playing some sort of game, i would give thousands and thousands and thousands of points to you, david crowder, for spilling out all the things that we were thinking–in a fantastic burst of text.
dear crowder, please don’t pay attention to the dissenters. the majority of us are deeply appreciative of what you do. i know i’ll never forget the open invitation to eat barbecue from a pistol and sing in the dr. pepper barn. who else does that?

can i email you my address? (halfway kidding.)

yes. send me a message with your address and i’ll send you murlough23′s cd.

dave, i think the limited edition is the coolest thing ever. but the only thing is, i’ve been to walmart two days in a row and haven’t found it yet. now being your biggest fan and all it seems that i would have it immediately but you can blame walmart for this one. sorry all you crowder-ites out there, i really let you down this time. well, walmart really let you down this time. and this spell check thing says walmart is not a word, but it doesn’t know about the waltons
and to murlough23, after i buy the limited edition, i will have bought the cd four times. and i very much have and will have enjoyed it every time
Can’t wait for mine to arrive. I have no doubt it is worth every saved penny, and a few more.

wow, thank you so much!
oh yeah, i almost forgot, i can argue with you if you want, if that means i get a free cd. what is it? buy 3 get 1 free?
or Jake and I could have it out for the biggest fan….that way you don’t get involved…haha
i mean, you dont even have him in your profile pic
haha ok well i did until like 2 weeks ago!! because I didn’t want to be too obsessive. I can quickly change it back though since I have like 3 with him…haha
I am Proud to be a Fan of your Band! Receiving your music in a disc in a bubbly yellow envelope is truly a package of joy thank you for personally offering it.

Aww… I already bought Remedy… twice.
4 – 2 = 2
I just wanted to tell you that I was having a crappy day yesterday, but when I got home from work my new Remedy CD/DVD combo were waiting for me and it made me very, very happy and I haven’t even gotten the chance to watch/listen to it yet. Just holding such greatness in my hands made me smile. Thank you, dcb, for helping to bring sunshine into my life. :)
Also, I was going to post something in response to all the rude, negative, and downright ballsy (can I say ballsy?) posts of other people but my editor/husband advised me to hold my tongue as it might pisseth off some people (like I care, I do it every day), and so I did not come to your defense. I apologize for not doing so, and I’m glad that your wife, or whoever your editor may be, did not censor you. It needed to be said.
Please know that, whether I comment or not, I always support you and your efforts and I am very grateful that you are willing to share your thoughts and talents with us. I have never come across any other artist who does so much for their fans. You guys are always willing to do meet and greets, your merchandise is really reasonably priced, you allow us to access your personal freaking xanga site (sorry that backfires on you sometimes), and lots of other stuff that I can’t even think of right now. To accuse you of trying to exploit and rip off your fans is unfair and completely ridiculous. I know that there are many, many other fans who, like me, deeply appreciate all that you do for us. Listen to us, not all the negativity. I might even buy the CD a third time just out of spite for all those poopheads.
@ golferjake06 and rockstar4christ:
If I had pictures of Jake and Rockstar I’d put them as my profile pics. I’m a big fan of you guys
Dearest Glen,
You guys are my “Frames,” and I’m always deeply moved and want to touch back. I just ordered my limited edition, and can’t wait to see the DVD. Joy!
since it makes you happy to know that the real reason i won’t get the limited edition is poverty i will let you know that is the reason.
will there be a full dvd later, though? that is what I’m saving my money for. if not i should in fact get the limited edition.
this was a fantastic read. seriously.
so, the cross on my remedy CD sleeve turned blue… not sure what that’s all about. i’m going to go dream a dream and see if I get an interpretation.
later
david.
ddddaaaaaavvvviddddd:
i hope by stretching out the spelling of your name you can imagine that i am groaning in response to you having to deal with all this mess. I was going to say that you are my glen but after some reflection i have found that this is not the case. nor are you my jimmy. you see i own music from both artists and i like them both (glen waaaaaaay more than jimmy) but calling you my glen or jimmy would just be ridicuously untrue bc the enthusiam i feel for them greatly pales in comparison to the obsession i have with the music released by the david crowder band. the play count on my itunes and the favorite music line on my facebook (which endlessly states dc*b no matter how often i change it) verifies this (if you put stock in such things). you are my david crowder band and it would be less of a compliment to call you anything else. i look forward to seeing the footage from atl…that was a great show!
I’m looking forward to getting my hands on the Limited Edition.
You guys are my “Frames.”
However, I wish you would’ve swung by Hawaii for part of your tour.
I mean, what’s not to like in Hawaii?
Sunsets, Sushi…
Beaches…
Me…
But it’s too late. Alas, I may never meet you in Hawaii, because I have been appointed (Ah, I’m a United Methodist) to Orange County.
See you in the mainland.
If you decide to go to Hawaii after I am gone, please note that I will be upset. (but not that much).
…you lost me at Jimmy Buffett….
my wife and i are going to see jimmy buffett in june. i’m a fan. she’s a ‘frames’ fan of the j.b. it should be fun. and i will think of this blog when he plays ‘fruitcakes’. and i will say to myself, ‘you know what would be awesome, a live version of this song on a limited edition cd. that would rock hard!’ i buy limited editions, i think they’re great. also, if i’m a big fan of a band, i will never buy their cd electronically. i want to feel the hard copy and the liner notes and have them with me. its just how i am.
*wombat*
I’m not sure I completely understood the newly-posted conversation/exchange, but let me say this:
I, for one, would be glad to support David Crowder*Band. I went to a concert (Preston McReynolds Worship Band) a few months ago and bought a t-shirt (well, I nearly bought it, but Mom paid for it), not because I liked the t-shirt, but because I wanted to support this band and the worshipfulness they carried around with them. As you are a similar (but much more well known) band, I would be thrilled to support you and your band. I hear all sorts of wonderful things about David Crowder*Band, laugh when I read Crowder’s posts, let everyone I know listen to their music… I bought my friend “A Collision” for his birthday… he hates most music, but loved that album.
The fact that I’m not going to buy this limited edition release has nothing to do with that… it is because I have very, very little spending money, and I already own one version of the album (if I didn’t, I would surely buy this limited one). I understand it’s only $10-20. So if another friend’s birthday comes around, perhaps I will buy this limited edition and give them the original (or vice-versa and borrow the limited version someday).
I also understand this “artistry dilemma” and will probably face it later on in my life when I get a band going and have to feed a family. Art is never appreciated enough, so while I may be unable to support you financially as I would like, I will support you in other ways: you have been an inspiration, a help, a worship leader, a guide, and many more things to myself and thousands upon thousands of others. There was a point in my life a few months ago when I heard “Never Let Go”… I broke down crying and had quite a good day after that. I lead worship at my youth group, and we play a lot of your songs. You also created my favorite album of all time, “A Collision.” I believe you are where God wants you, and I believe that makes Him very happy with you. I don’t know if you needed to hear any of that, but I will offer what I can.
I may buy a shirt from you lads soon though… I’ve contemplated that in the past, because I rather like those shirts. I’ll see what I can do. I’m also going to check out this version of “Never Let Go” and perhaps buy it, if it’s available for purchase from iTunes or whatever.
Lengthy… I can do lengthy, haha… perhaps I should create a title too?
so confused
i hate dvds. i hate cds. i hate life. i hate sunshine. i hate the dc*b. i hate blogs.
@markymark106 - oh mark. you and rupert always gotta be all silly and things.
I bought 2! One for me and one for my mom for Mother’s Day! (I had no idea what to get her, then I saw this post — and it all became clear to me! ) We both have the origional release. Just wanted you to know!
This just wouldn’t be the internet without an anonymous flame-war.
Youguys are my Frames, not only because you make soul-shaking music (you do!) but because you do things like this blog/thread. It shows that you’re people just like us. I also really enjoy reading every one of David’s overly verbose writings.
Glen
As long as you keep playing ‘Fitzcarraldo’ I don’t care how many CD’s you release.
I should be writing my paper right now. I am instead reading very humorous words with teeth. I am not reading these words with my teeth, but the words I read HAVE teeth.
At Hamerstein, your music made me cry. I said to you as you were walking in Hamerstein, “Hey, I’m loooking forward to your show,” which I was. I listen to music most if it makes me cry. The songs I write are in my favorites only if I think they will make people cry.
These are words I wrote.
I remember screaming
a terror in the eyes
Every truth collapsing.
She’s bleeding from the eyes
If you didn’t see it
then you didn’t look
The whole earth felt the cursing,
and it’s foundations shook
Oh God, will you tell me,
what will make us whole
And what leads us to bury,
the ones who give us hope
And why the things that hurt me,
I carry to my friends
And if they haven’t felt them,
make sure they feel the pinch
I don’t want to give up
trying not to die
So when I see you resigned
it makes me want to cry
Wonder if it’s hopeless,
and be ashamed of you
For ever really thinking
That that could be the truth
And it’s not like your at the end of your life
Unless you choose to die
You’ve got a light, and I pray you see Him there
You’re a bride
So I will stay here praying
that what you say is true
Longing like a watchman
for the sight of you
And when you’re in my vision
The tears I’ll shed are true
And then utter the words
Finally it’s you
That took up too much space. Sorry.
you’re awesome david. *high five!*
hey david,
the nay-sayers are clearly the loudest. i join that slim group of people who would love to own the limited edition, but apparently my wife tells me that eating is a higher priority regarding use of our finances. we’re so different in that way. just to clarify, will a full-length dvd be released at a later time, containing the entire show? people may wish to know such information, particularly if they felt “dooped” by a limited edition. again, i’m on your side, and if you’d like, i’ll even send you my cd (though i would suggest such a thing isn’t even worth getting free…)godspeed,
jason
wow, I think it’s awesome that you guys respond to the comments and let us know what’s going on with all things DCB. Keep on doing what you do! Looking forward to seeing you guys at JAMA in Philly.
I would love to own a copy of the limited edition Remedy CD! I was excited to see this become available. I have been a somewhat long time fan of your music, and I am currently in the process of reading your first book Living Praise. This book brings new revelations of our living God to me and is an excellent explanation of what is truely meant to be. I knew you had a depth of thought that was greater than most, but I had no clue as to the expansiveness of it. I now find a new greater connection with the music you write. I have not finished the book yet, but I am well on my way to the end. I look forward to purchasing a copy of Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven, But Nobody Wants To Die. Unfourtunately, I have little in the way of monetary funds at this time due largely to poor judgement in managing our finances. We now are on our way back out of financial distress, so I hope to be able to afford such things as your second book and this limited Remedy release in the future. Currently our focus is on our kids, college, and starting our ministry. Thanks for your inspiration and for offering such things as a limited edition CD. Have you guys thought about coming up to Minnesota for any concerts other than Sonshine? What would it take for you to come up this way? I’m just curious. Thanks. Later.
Looking forward to getting a hold of this soon! I love everything you guys produce.
I also enjoy your writing. Both blogs and books
(dibs on the next freebie)
Kyle
I am feeling rather humbled (by saying humbled, I mean dumb) now since I made a huge mistake in saying the name of your first book was titled Living Praise when it is actually titled Praise Habit. Maybe this could be the name of another edition of Praise Habit and it could be re-released in stores. Maybe then I would by it also since it would undoubtedly have something different on the cover, even though everything inside would be the same. I have no clue what I was thinking when I called it living praise other than maybe that’s just what my mind came up with when I thought of the book since that’s pretty much what it’s about. I’m not really sure what all the whining is about concerning the limited edition having all the same songs as the first release. Nobody is making you buy this, and if you do not find a cool version of Never let go, 4 live songs on DVD and the squirrel music video worth $13 than don’t buy it. As for me, I believe it is totally worth it and as soon as I can pay my bills, feed my children and still have some money left over, I will get a copy. I just say thank you to David Crowder Band for the oportunity to be able to buy it. Keep putting out as much stuff as you possibly can, and if there is ever anything that I wish not to purchase (which I highly doubt), I will not shout it from the mountain tops that I will not purchase it nor should anyone else. Ok, I’m done. (unless I discover I have made any other typographical errors concerning titles of books and such).
I’m hesitant to comment, because you’ve already had a lot to read. That’s why I usually don’t….chances are I’d just repeat something a few other people said already, and proceed to waste your time. And since I didn’t read every single previously posted comment (just most of them), I might do that here. But I really do want to include my support. I’m among those who really aren’t big fans of limited edition cd’s/dvd’s. But my support is for you, not those who are upset about it. Let me explain.
If anyone who expressed their dismay about having to re-purchase your material is like me, it’s because you have most certainly surpassed Jimmy Buffett status to them (and me). If a mediocre, slightly-enjoyable band came out with limited edition material, we would glance at it with less-than-mild interest, and soon forget about it. The quandary arises when an artist that has made quite an impact on us releases something limited edition. You talked about purchasing the same material multiple times, with only cover art or punctuation changing.
The foundational difference between you and I, it seems, is financial status. I don’t mean to make assumptions about how much money you have, but the general assumption about any successful artist is that you have plenty. I don’t. Most people my age don’t. Purchasing anything I don’t necessarily need takes planning and sacrifice. I usually want something for quite a bit of time before I can finally buy it.
I am so thankful for the gifts God has given you. What your music and writing has done is point people in the direction of God. You enable others to deepen their relationship with our Creator. When an artist makes my love for God grow before my love for them grows….well, that’s a hard thing to do, and it makes me love said artist even more. (There has to be a less-confusing way for me to have said that, but I’m leaving it.)
I think most of the people who left negative comments about your new material just didn’t know how else to express their frustration. I, for one, am frustrated at the fact that I still haven’t been able to acquire your latest book….and now there’s more to add to my ever growing “want” list. But please don’t ever take that frustration as saying that I think you shouldn’t be selling any of it. I love what you do, and want to support all of you in any way I can. For that reason, everything you make will remain on my “want” list until I can buy it.
Sorry for how long this got. I hope it accomplished some kind of purpose….I forget what I had originally planned that to be. Oh well. Keep loving Jesus.
~Charity
P.S. I almost forgot to add that when I first heard the line “I don’t know how to be a love like that”, I thought they were some of the most profound words I’ve heard in a long time. Thanks for that.
if the frames released a limited edition of “the cost” with a squirrel sticker on it, would you buy it?
I just wanted to tell you that I love your band, and as soon as I get the money I plan to buy your limited edition even though I have the regular edition! Your posts always make me smile.
Limited Editions are fun just so you become a fan of the band after it is released……
I just want to say that I cannot believe that someone would refuse a free copy of the Limited Edition Remedy cd/dvd. Second, I want to ask; if you would offer the cd free, to someone who was obviously not a huge fan of yours, would you offer a free copy to a HUGE fan of yours, who would truly appreciate the generous gift? Perhaps you could send me the copy that murlough23 refused. I would watch the videos, listen to the cd, admire the album artwork, and all around treasure it. Thanks for taking the time to read my comment.
Great job managing a rather extreme dissident.
On a different note: I really enjoy both versions of “Never let go” but I rarely hear the “Radio mix” version on the radio (Klove). That seems a little incongruous-radio mix not on the radio. Seems like something extreme may need to be done to correct this obviously heinous oversight (left to your imagination of course).
you aren’t kidding about shelf life these days. i work at the hastings. do they have the hastings in waco? well they do in lubbock. and whoever they are, they ordered a whopping ONE copy of the limited edition. i suppose that’s where the “limited” part comes into play. nonetheless, i bought the single copy the tuesday it came out and persuaded our grumpy music manager to order ten more copies for the shelf.
personally, the video alone justifies the purchase of this album.
initially, i purchased remedy on the itunes, because i was caught up in the excitement of remedy’s relationship to “graduation,” which is, quite frankly, not “album of the year.” anyways, this release provided an opportunity for me to own the hard copy. it’s awesomeness surpassed my expectations.
as i’ve told you before, i would have paid upwards of $100 for a vinyl copy. seriously. the same goes for a collison. $100. i mean it.
never let go is not a crappy song. we, the youth band, have decided to sing it this wednesday night. your creative efforts are affecting the world and the Kingdom, david. thank you again.
thomas
Dearest David,
I am so thankful that emprise34 is able to write so well. Not so much for my sake, but your sake. He is a real honor defender. I’m glad you have such good fans. 0_o
On a slightly lesser note, I would just like to write a small letter of appreciation to you personally. I know we haven’t met, so it’s slightly more awkward than if I were talking to a friend-of-many-years, but I do feel that I need to tell you this, none the less. Your music has been one of the greatest inspirations for me as a worship leader and song writer, next to God Himself, of course. I am really grateful that God has blessed you with the ability to create and perform such great music for His glory.
I just started reviewing music for a national zine, and they sent me “God of This City.” I was really excited when I saw you and your band were listed among the other great worship leaders on the CD. God has given me an interest in the old hymns of the church, specifically the hymns in the Salvation Army song book (Salvation Army is my church). I have reworked a few of these songs, keeping the timeless truths in the lyrics, but updating the music (Something I know you are familiar with). So imagine my joy when I saw that you had “O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing” on this CD! For that, I am truly grateful. It is a marvelous rendition, and I will be teaching it to my worship team in the near future.
All in all, just thanks for being so awesome! Your writings here are witty and fill me with joy and laughter when I read them. May you continue to bring blessings to me and the countless others who feel the same way that I do. And may God continue to bless you in your work. He will continue to use you for His work as long as you allow Him.
Grace and peace,
-Dave
Alas poor David, you are in some musical limbo for me, between being my Jimmy Buffet and my The Frames. If I had money I would consider the new version, but I don’t so I’ll have to wait. Coming from old school music retail, I know how important first day sales are so that is usually where I give my best effort buying early. I would prefer the special edition earlier like some labels do, but that can’t happen everytime and I don’t think you’re a schiester for that, or your label for that matter.
I like pie. Apple pie. Ala Mode. Only, I can’t really eat dairy products. Gives me bad poops. But sometimes, I just say screw it and eat it anyway. Other times, I am responsible, and actually have lactose intolerant pills to help me enjoy lactose products.
Still other times, my lovely wife remembers. Although it’s more convenient for her, because she carries a purse. She tried to buy me a man purse before, but I profusely denied.
What does this have to do with your post?
Absolutely nothing!
I just wanted to share.
I had no intention of chiming in on CrowderGate ’08, but all the controversy intrigued me so off the the DCB webstore I clicked. And in the timeliest manner I have enjoyed in a while, a padded manilla envelope containing the most controversial worship album of the year arrived in my mailbox.
The new Never Let Go. Worth it.
The DVD. Worth it.
The green remedy picks. Beyond my expectations. I am assuming you only get the pick if you buy it directly from DCB, but you should buy directly from them anyway because I would imagine they get a bigger cut.
A thought for future dvd’s. Could we see a future tour dvd with commentary?
David (if I may be so bold as to address you in such a personal way) -
I, for one, would happily buy all your music (and have bought almost all, to date!) and include all versions of every song by dc*b as shuffled ringtones on my cellphone, to delight me daily. I cannot in all conscience do this, however, as I would never again answer said phone out of a disinclination to halt the glorious sounds…
BUT, you are the frames to me.
good job with the new version of “never let go”…i remember when i saw you guys at the HOB in dallas, and you played “never let go”…i was like, “yes! this is exponentially better than the album version!” cause you were playing the keys on this one. you should play keys more often, david. when does the whole remedy tour dvd come out?
hey just wanted to compliment you on the pure beauty of having straight jacket overgrown oompa loompas bringing flowers and sunlight on your everything glorious performance. this is why you have so many fans. you are the new musical willy wonka. you both have a liking for things good and a peculiar way of handling squirrels. wow. I just made the greatest discovery of all time. david crowder is willy wonka. are there golden tickets in your limited edition of remedy? the oompa loompas made the performance. hats off to you
David, your comments were awesome. I’m a huge supporter and promoter of your band and your books. As our beloved Memphis mayor King Willie would say “Shake the Haters off!” That guy didn’t say anything about the new packaging of the limited edition…and he probably doesn’t know that earned you a Dove Award. Some people are so uninformed. Hey at least we know your next album will have only the best versions of songs since captain blow hard gave you the suggestion and all. WHAT THE FRENCH TOAST?!!???!
daivd you are indelible.
ok, so i just read this, and seeing as how i’ve already spent an inordinate amount of money on the remedy album (e.g. buying it several times to freely distribute amongst peers and strangers in and around the middle-tennessee area) i must express my regret in not purchasing this limited edition sooner. however, living by yourself, needing very little in the way of physical goods (a couch, bookshelf, and cereal), and having few monthly expenses rends your hands free of much financial restrictions. to put it succinctly, i’ll be ordering and purchasing and downloading this new limited ed. a lot. i guess you’re my frames.
i got the cd! thanks so much, david. this made my day!
i love glen.
and your music.
it touches the soul and down to my toes.
this i cannot do on my own and therefore enjoy the bottled up goodness on your cds.
even rereleased with special editions.
i however am dusty broke and would like one.
can i really send you my address?
Argh. This is really – er really LAME!
This sucks. Not only did I buy an mp3 version (as the album was not released in Europe at the same time as the US), but then I bought a physical CD when it was released. Now I think I’m being taken advantage of by someone that I thought was my friend.
I hope it’s not available overseas!
PS: those Delirious guys _gave_away_ two tracks from their CD, _AND_ provided one online (that was later on the CD) free in advance. But they run their own record label, so I guess they get to make these kind of decisions rather than being at the whim of cold heartless record execs who need to keep their kids in school.
I’ll have to watch my friends’ copies of course, as I’m pretty broke.
