it’s pronounced “brahzeeeeeal”
mike d: “i feel jittery.”
mark: “what do you mean, ‘jittery’?”
mike d: “like i’ve got the jitters. i feel like i drank too much coffee or something. yeah, i probably drank too much coffee.”
mark: “but you drink, like, 8 cups a day.”
mike d: “yeah, it’s probably not the coffee.”
me: “what’s that beverage you’ve been drinking, like, nonstop since we got here, like, every time i look you are drinking it, the one in the green can?”
mike d: “guarana antartica.”
me: “i think i’d start there.”
mike d: “my hand’s sorta shaking. look.”
me: “it’s the guarana man.”
mark: “ha! it’s totally the guarana! i just looked it up and it actually says it right here, ‘guarana-containing beverages may cause jitters associated with drinking coffee.’ [source] hmm, you might consider moderation.”
mike d: “no. i can’t. it’s too tasty. i honor brazil. [as foreshadowed in the title, we currently are in brazil; sao paulo to be exact.] i drink for honor. it is for the brazilian peoples everywhere that i drink.”
mark: “your eye is twitching. and you’re not making much sense.”
mike d: “give me back my can.”
mark: “have you seen that show intervention?”
mike d: “i’m serious. give my can back. please.”
mark: “stop winking at me and i’ll give you your can back.”

ola. obrigado for this hilarious post. (and i believe it’s pronounced more like, “brah-ssee-ooh”)
mmm…that stuff es muito bem!

my son went on a mission trip in the jungles of brazil. he brought me back some of that guarana stuff. not bad.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!
I don’t know what ‘goal’ is in Portuguese, but it’s close.
That’s one of the funniest band stories you’ve posted in awhile. Sweet on.
Too bad there’s not a placebo substitute for that stuff…So you’re in Brazil? When you coming to Canada?
this is the worst comment ever
yea i think you need to call the intervention show. haha.
did that really happen?
As long as we’re on proper pronunciation, make sure you put the “m” sound on the end of sao. It is pronounced like “sowm” That way you can impress the citizens with your Portugese. My friend from that fine city taught me the proper way to say it. She also taught me the proper pronunciation of some other words, and only after I’d perfected them and said them in a video she made for her family did I find out they were not very polite words. I will not teach you those.
Safe travels.
it’s the most amazing soda in existence. i was quite addicted to it while living in Paraguay. the Parguayans drink a brand called “Maxi” which is much better than Antartica. Also, the Simba and Simba Dietica versions are sub-par to both of the above mentioned brands. but you’ll have trouble finding Maxi in Sao Paulo.
if you guys have time you need to swing by Foz, Brasil and see the Iguazu Falls. they are the big waterfalls shown in the new Indiana Jones movie.
SWEET! I found it: http://www.amigofoods.com/guanbe116pa.html
actually, this is the worst comment ever, but this picture is awesome.
death cab fan?
very cool. i love death cab.
guarana has 3times as much caffeine as coffee
dude, if you drink that stuff, will you make like crazier music like jimmi hendrix on mind altering substance?
look at them so sad and so stupid that they admit their own addictions…(insert line)
i think my friend brought it back after a mission trip to brazil. so 3x the caffine huh? no wonder it was so delicious. good thing it isn’t that readily available in the us, or i’d be in trouble.
I’ve had that drink before! Good stuff. Never made me twitch though. I’m going to assume Mark is Mark Hall of Casting Crowns. I know who Mike D. is. (:
Please come to Orlando on that tour. Casting Crowns + DCB + Tenth Avenue North = the best tour ever known to man. It’s also known as the tour I dream about. It doesn’t get any better than that.
Sprite cans are green.
Or they used to be, at least. I think they’re more silvery now.
Many, I miss the 90s.
hahaha
Nice. Josta had quarana. I loved it. I was six. They took it from me. Ive been against the institution ever since. Josta…i miss thee.
Have anyone ever suggested you cover a taylor swift song. you know, just a teensy weensy cover of a taylor swift song to put on your blog for a closet country music fan (which I am CERTAINLY not.)
just a thought.
Guarana is one of the key ingredients in Energy drinks in the USA.
it’s a natural enegizer….
hence the shakes
i have a friend who’s addicted to it as well
great conversation
what is it about central/south american sodas that make them SO tasty?! apple soda from mexico is one of my most favorite beverages ever.
You must to drink guarana syrup , it’s a concentrated juice of guarana . We do that with 6/7 of water and 1/7 of guarana syrup. We’ve also guarana dust with water , looks like back to the future III when the Doc Brown drinks an special drink to wake up from his drunk mood.
kkkkkkkkkkk
it’s what I mean about strong drink!
guarana antartica is too nice, but even babies cant jitters with that in Brazil
Save the Brazilian Guarana! Save Guarana Antartica, the best one LOL !
Can’t possibly be better than Cola Champagne… gonna have to conduct a study now, thanks.

hooray for having the shakes from a drink!
I’ll bet it has citric acid in it.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE your song, “You Never Let Go.”
just thought you should know!
what are you thoughts on the david cook victory this season?
Sometimes my Mom’s cooking had that effect on me. It lasted the whole time I swallowed, and then prolonged for several seconds. The worst was her golumpki. (pronounced ga-WUMP-kee)…
HELLO!!! you know, ive been subscribed to your xanga for like years now….and ive been begging you guys to come to las vegas for a concert =( LOL. I’M STILL ON MY KNEES BEGGING!! pleaseee pleaseee.
God bless! =)
I heard you on Pulse FM this morning. I look forward to seeing pics from the look-a-like contest.
God Bless.
I am curious…David you should take videos of these things
Oh. my. goodness.
I swore I would never get one of these Xanga beasts. The feeding they require… and they’re just so ugly.
But David Crowder has one? A blog at Xanga? THE David Crowder Asterisk Band dude?
And just like that, I have a Xanga account — that I may read and stalk and basically leave this little comment.
Thanks for being so 2008, Mr. Crowder.
Guarana is so good. I empathize with the dependency. I don’t know If you’re going to go to Rio de Janeiro while you’re there, but I think it is very very beautiful.
