  • disco party

here is a pic from the disco party. i don’t know where exactly to put this image in my mind. it is difficult to file such overt visual stimulation.

we sort of took the weekend off. shane and mark went home for a small reprieve. i attempted to rest so the voice would come back. i attempted to vocalize this morning and it just wasn’t happening. we’ll try again tonight. jack just walked in to finish up rhodes parts. then, i guess i’ll start editing until the pipes cooperate.

i wonder if you can o.d. on expectorant?

  • rehearsals

there is a disco party tomorrow at our church, ubc. it’s a fund raiser the orphange our church helps sponsor in africa. the rest of the band guys rehearsed this afternoon with our good friend tye. he’s a star. all i’m saying is saturday night is for laying down the funk.

meanwhile, in the studio, shane and i did some editing on “rain down” and “can you feel it”. we’re still having trouble making the chorus to “rain down” hit like we want it to, but the verses and turns are a fist to the head (i have no idea what a fist to the head feels like, in a literal sense. this is a term recently aquired from a barn guest). also, hogan finished up violin today, we think. i still need to start singing.

  • correction

it seems there was some confusion as to whether or whether not THE NUGE came by the barn. so to quell the furor, yes, THE NUGE did in fact stop by to play on the recording. we have included a “clip of the day” for each day of the recording. simply go here to observe THE NUGE in his natural habitat. click the “clip of the day”.

today i recorded acoustics for “everything glorious” and mike d worked on piano for “never let go” and “oh the glory of it all.” hogan put down a part for “rain down” that is just monstrous. it is huge i say! i need to get vocals going. still not quite there. i’ve been taking musinex nonstop today, well, at least just barely over the recommended dosage. not sure if it’s helping.

  • the nuge put his foot on shane’s chair while he played guitar

so today was pretty non-eventful. the nuge did not stop by. so today was pretty much a let down.

oh, however, we may or may not have finished electric guitars. that’s pretty fantastic. of course we’ll be paying attention to where the gaps are and then filling them in but we’re done with the bulk of them anyway. but yeah, the nuge didn’t stop by.

but shane did order this for dinner which is pretty fantastic as well:

  • mmmm…venison.

no freaking way! ted nugent, aka: the nuge, terrible ted, deadly tedly, theodocious atrocious, uncle ted, sweaty teddy, great gonzos, the motor city madman, the nuge, wait i said that, anyway, he’s coming to the barn again. this time he’s bringing his guitar. he’ll have his bow (as in bow and arrows) with him too but he told us he never leaves home with out that, but yes, he’s bring a guitar. his backup songbird is what he told me on the phone. sometime this afternoon, like 3 or 4. we’re going to have him play on “we won’t be quiet.” yes, the one that already has one bar of harmony lead guitars. this is too good. “we won’t be quiet” featuring the nuge. when we asked him if he’d play on a tune he said, and i quote, “sure. you guys pick out the vehicle and i’ll come over and turn it into a four wheel drive.” might be a great opportunity for some monumental screen grabs.

  • productivity

wow. alot was accomplished today. jeremy may/or may not be finished with his drums. that’s just crazy talk! but yes, he has now tracked all of his parts. he will now move on to editing what he’s played. well actually, mark (shane’s assistant) has been locked in his hotel room since monday or tuesday, he is turning pale from lack of sunlight, editing everything (as in, lining things up, making sure the ups and downs are where they need to be.) and now jeremy will be editing away making them extra special. if there is anything additional needed we’ll go back and grab it but yes, drums may be finished at this point.

oh, and, the first thing that happened this morning was taylor (aka the kid) tracked his guitar parts on the title track, “remedy.” oh my word! i’m flipping out. they are so epic. after dinner, mike d dumped the bass stuff he had been messing with for “rain down” so guitars can track to it. then taylor and jack started on “we won’t be quiet.” it’s this big cbgb rocker type bit. an ode to the resplendent club that is no longer. well except in vegas, we think.

the one bit of lameness is that some ungodly mass of phlegm has taken up residence in my head and throat. i’m not sure if it’s just alergies or what but we were no longer playing at ubc in the morning due to it. lame. hopefully this heap of foulness will move on before it is time for vocals.

but yes, it is fact, that currently, a bar of harmony lead guitars happen in “we won’t be quiet.”

  • greatest lunch ever!!!

we went to lunch today at buzzard billy’s. first, this is premier waco experience. amazing. but here’s the thing: about 1/3 through our meal, guess who walks in? yes. it is truth. the motor city mad man. the glorious ted nugent. he too calls waco home. we said hello. it was his first time to behold the rest of the guys in the band. here is a direct quote: “funny. i wasn’t expecting so many caucasians. you don’t sound caucasian.” and also, “yeah man. i’ll get ahold of you guys just as soon as my guitars stop breeding.” we don’t have any idea what that means but it all added up to the greatest lunch ever. seriously.

now back to guitars, terrible ted inspired!

  • day 3

so yesterday here’s what happened, you know, just to recap.

    1. mike d played bass guitar on the three songs that jeremy had tracked drums to. “can you feel it” “o for a thousand tongues” and “oh the glory of it all”.
    2. shane ate part of a potato.
    3. shane found himself briefly in a saturated fat coma.
    4. shane wondered aloud, “where am i?! what happened?!”
    5. hogan set up for violin parts on the three songs mentioned previously.
    6. we discovered that our studio is wired pin 3 hot rather than the unofficially universal pin 2 hot.
    7. this would be our fault because we have no idea what we’re doing. or, we just really counter cultural. yes. we were making a statement. i mean, who says pin 2 must be hot? who?
    8. we ate at olive garden. shane had the “tour of itally.” this is a meal that intends for you to basically eat your way around the country.
    9. taylor (the kid) and jack brought guitars over so we could start on electrics this morning.

so here’s what’s going on right now. jack and taylor are tracking guitars for “oh the glory of it all” downstairs. hogan is tracking violin for “oh the glory of it all” upstairs. he would have been done but he had me come listen and i requested that during the break section, where he basically has a solo, he make his transitions between notes a little more legato. must milk it a little more. it’s an incredibly emotive part. it will make your insides soar i’m pretty sure.

we’re currently listening to jack a/b his line 6 delay pedal that he typically uses during this song, with an analogue tape delay. which do you think will when out? it’s pretty obvious…
