October 24, 2005

  • wow. ok. so this week started early. i know. that makes no sense. how can a week start early? i’m just saying it did “for me”. for me it started early. or earlier than usual. to catch you up, i had planned to give an inside look at this week on the road. we’ve been “off” (home) for 7 days. now, we are no longer “off” (home). and i stopped being “off” at 6:15 this morning. well actually we got on the bus at midnight in waco last night and drove to houston. i woke up to toni (my wife) punching me. it was 6:15, as i mentioned, and she is punching me. i am not a morning person. i did not retaliate, however. i was supposed to be picked up to go to a radio station in town (ksbj) so i got up and got dressed in the dark. went to the front of the bus. and then came the first bit of excitement. we were not at the venue. we were supposed to be at the venue. that is where i was to be picked up. we were in a walmart parking lot. our bus driver, dylan, (pronounced die-lon, emphasis on “die”) was nowhere to be found. well i found him. in a bunk on the bus asleep. he is a heavy sleeper. so i punched him. i figured it would work since it had worked on me. it did. dylon (die-lon) got up and drove very quickly. i still made the pickup. at the station i played “open skies” with my guitar and said funny things. this lasted about an hour i think. then back to the venue. the bus wasn’t there. i called. “where is the bus?” “we’re back at the walmart.” i was confused. it was still early. i was no longer “off”. wow. what an exciting morning.

the guys aren’t driving down until 2pm [it is 3 hours from waco (home) to houston] so i unloaded our gear and boxes of cds from the bays alone. toni stepped off the bus. “are you working?” “yes.” “wow.” she looked genuinely surprised. here look. i unloaded all of this. alone. pretty impressive i realize.

i walked over to the truck that was being unloaded. here’s the truck:

we have a new driver on this leg. i haven’t met him yet. (oh yeah, it occurs to me that you might not know what a “leg” is. well, i’m sure you know what a leg is but perhaps not in this context. in tour lingo, a string of dates on the road without going home would be referred to as a “leg” or a “run”. so we finished our first “leg” a week ago and now are embarking upon our second “leg”. you are now more informed and can now insert this into conversation with confidence later today or tomorrow. i.e.: “yeah, the crowder band just started the second leg of their tour. oh. what? you don’t know what “leg” means? ha. how uninformed are you? i am much more informed. wow. i had no idea that i was the superior in this relationship.) anyway, i hope the truck driver is nice.

here are people that i don’t know unloading the truck. one of them said, “hey! get to work! isn’t this your gear!?” i said, “sort of. and thanks for helping.” he didn’t look very impressed while i stood there trying to take the picture. even less so when i walked off.

this is bob. he is one of the volunteers helping unload the truck:

here is something pretty exciting: bob told me a story about going to help load in gear at this other church. this really big scary man in a bright green shirt and yellow tie walked briskly up to him and said, “hey! take your hat off in here!” bob had a baseball cap on because he had just come straight from work to help out. bob took his hat off and the big scary man walked off and stood at the back of the room watching. bob went up to the pastor of the church and said, “excuse me. would you mind terribly if i wore my hat in here? my hair is really messed up and i feel kind of dumb without it on.” the pastor said, “bob i wouldn’t care if you walked in here naked! of course you can put it on.” bob put his hat back on and walked directly toward the big scary man in the bright green shirt and yellow tie. “hey. i’m going to wear my hat. the pastor said it would be ok!” bob walked off. then he felt bad. he went back to the big scary man in the bright green shirt and yellow tie. bob said, “man i’m sorry for being a bit quick with you. it’s just that on the way here i was driving past all these trailers and under a couple of bridges and i started thinking about these homeless folks i saw and the poverty and pain they live in and i was praying that maybe one of them would see your cross and wander in here and that god would wrap his arms around them and they’d feel his love, even though they were dirty and undeserving and smelled bad and they’d be sitting here with their backpack and all they owned and then you’d come up to them and say, ‘hey!! take your hat off!’ and they’d pick themselves up, walk right out that door they came in, and say ‘i knew this was all a bunch of crap!’ and maybe they’d see the cross as they walked out and maybe they’d flip it off for good measure and then a truck would hit them and they’d die and go straight to hell.” bob paused for dramatic impact. “all because you don’t like hats!” then bob laughed a sort of coughing, gravel filled laugh . “that’s from the 1st Book of Bob!!” i smiled at bob. bob said, “seriously, i said that.” i said, “i don’t doubt it bob.” bob said, “then the big scary man in the bright green shirt and yellow tie started crying.” i smiled at bob. bob said, “seriously, he did.” i said, “i don’t doubt it bob.”

this is jason and shane e. they are waving at me from the balcony:

they are trying to get me to go play golf with them. “come play golf,” they say! i can’t. i have work to do. i tell them so. this is not very exciting. i watch them load their clubs and drive away.

i will end here due to the length of this first entry. it is truly ridiculous. i’m sure the rest of the day and evening will be a very lovely and exciting one. you’ll just have to trust me. tomorrow i am still not “off”. we will be living on tulsa time. cheers.

  • wow… that dude bob reminds me of the guys in “Under the Overpass”.. which is an awesome book. That is a lot of stuff to unload… my band fits everything we have into the back of a suburban at times. It is fun… once we put it all into a 1990 Honda Accord.

  • Look at the magic of comments

  • do you like the new BSS? compared to YFIP?

  • Hope to see ya at the Atlanta show Crowder. You should drop by 7|22 while you’re in town.

  • the big guy crying kinda scares me.  come to mention it, so does bob and you, kinda

  • Oh, David Crowder Band, how do I love thee?  Let me count the ways…..

  • which guitar did you play open skies? cos if it was that early in the morning, i’d be quite worried about humidity and such. Anyway your new album is in the top 5 best Christian albums of all time (at least in my opinion).

  • dave,  i like bob.  he’s my kind of man.  i also like hats.  i buy too many of them.  you guys should sell some hats.  i probably would have flipped off the guy when he told me to take off my hat.  i guess that’s why i’m not bob.

just got my tix for grand rapids.  still can’t believe no comp for your #1 fan….(wink)

  • lol, i love bob’s shirt.

  • dear Mr. David Crowder,

when will you be in Georgia? i would like to know so i can rock with the all-inspiring David Crowder Band.

    sincerely, sushibya

  • I like hats.  I also like Bob.  Bob’s shirt is kind of silly.  But we are all a little silly.  That I why I like you.  You love Christ, but can still have a silly side.  I hope you have a good time until you get back to the house that Dr. Pepper Built.

  • Those pics rock!! :) & … I am going to be attending your Fellowship of the Woodlands concert. I am realllly excited, & I can’t wait! B/c the concert got rescheduled, I’ve had to wait FOR EVER to cya, but as the Lord says: “Patience is a virtue.” Amen? :) Anyway, can’t wait to cya tonight! GOd bless you. I pray that the Lord anoints you & all of the other musicians onstage to spread the message through your music, in order to bring people closer to God, if not for the first time. :) P.S. You are on my Myspace, listed as my friend. Woohoo!!

  • such are the kinds of days that you and God can exchange a knowing glance about the ridiculousness of life.  i hope that this kind of stuff doesn’t get you down.  we appreciate you, but more importantly, He does, as you unload stuff off your truck and get punched by your lovely wife.  speaking of whom, you should post a picture of her on here – a snapshot from 6:15 am.  on second thought, you probably shouldn’t.  but it would still be cool to see what she looks like.

i really like collision, and i can’t stop singing i saw the light.  great song.  and i’m already excited about Passion ’06.  i was there last year, and it seriously changed my year.  went to Israel on a mission trip, and i still keep in touch with  my small group.  i even remember the balcony that was swaying at your late nite concert because of all the people jumping on it.  glad that didn’t fall.

    praying for ya’ll.  – julie d.

  • hey DCB, we await your entry into New York City. ^_^

  • thanks for allowing us to have a peak into your tour life… cool stuff!

  • shooooo david crowder you crazy

    holllllla

  • Because I am close to 50 on the commenting, I do not feel as special as those who commented first, second, or even 15th. I enjoy your humor, because you remind me of my friend in collage. http://www.xanga.com/Duck_Infested_Water His name is James… Not Dave, so I do not think that this could be a secret identity of his… Being David Crowder, that is. And because he has but little guitar skills. He does, however, have intellectual and dancing skills. But here, I am rambling on about James, and this is YOUR xanga, not his, or even mine, though we do have the same name. But, anyway, may God bless you and keep your funnies intact.

  • SEE YOU IN TULSA DAWG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • woohoo for Tulsa time. We’re all looking forward to the show tomorrow night!

  • i still saw you in shreveport.
you have met my cousin chris salih w/ dan carson.
    ever heard of vintage cut?
    http://www.vintagecut.com

  • i like the way you write. i liked your lyrics, so i picked up your book, and your xanga..and now i’m just extreme crowder-ed out. =) ’tis a good thing. god’s doing awesome things through you!

  • Tulsa time is always the best! I wish I could come to your show in Tulsa, but I can’t becuase of school and all. :)

  • im glad that you had a good morning! even though youre not a morning person! i am sometimes, and other times i have to be punched to be woken up..its fantastic. i hope you continue to have fun and good times on this leg! -dani

  • hey…i cant wait til u guys come to virginia…maybe we can play a round of golf…when ur not working..^_^

  • lol @ Bob’s story. deep truth there though.

the new album is beyond words amazing btw. gl with this “leg” of the tour.

  • you’re a good story teller, Mr. Crowder… lol

  • Hey guess what…

I KNEW WHAT “LEG” MEANT BEFORE I READ THIS.

So I’m superior to everyone who didn’t, right?

  • i am excited! can’t wait to see you tonight!

  • Dear Mr Crowder of Waco:

I know you are busy, kind friend whom I have not met.  However, if you would be so kind as to say when you will be at the Tulsa Mabee Center, my friends and myself would be jubilant and exultant.

    Thank you very much,
    Optimistic at Oral Roberts

  • i like your writing style, mr. crowder.

  • Dang… Bob is hardcore. That’s pretty impressive. I think we should all be more like Bob.

  • you rock my everloving face off

  • I wonder how long this “Napoleon Dynamite” trend is going to end. Your a funny guy Mr. David Crowder. I hope the remaining “off” period will be really REALLY exciting!

  • hey tomorrow night i’m going to see you in concert in tulsa. i’m quite excited b/c your one of my many favorite bands!!! i also saw you this summer at atlanta feast and i thought you were UH-mazing!!

well good luck with your shows!!

    <3malo

  • Nice scooter … do you guys carry that to every show?

  • YOU’RE HERE!!!

  • I’d give my left arm for David Crowder Tickets in Athens…they’re “sold out”.  Can you fix that sir?

  • that was my favorite post by anyone in a very long time.

  • I just moved to Fairfax County, VA from the Houston area (Friendswood) and I listened to KSBJ all the time.  I love ya’ll so much, you’re such an inspiration.

  • i am truely sorry that you couldn’t go golfing with jason and shane e. but you had work to do. keep up the good work!

  • Tell me something bad aboouut Tulsa.
I bet you can’t. Or maybe you can… I probably can, but I won’t, for it is home to me.
Can’t wait to see you!! Have fun on this leg of the tour. And guess what. I knew what you were talking about without the explanation, so I guess that makes me superior. Smart. Ingenious. Or maybe it just means that I know different meanings of the word “leg” and I should shut up now. Peace!

  • one time i wore shorts to church, cuz it was really hot, ya know.  and this curly haired kid, named jp, told me i shouldn’t wear shorts to church.  i mean really curly.  like huge.  bigger than yours.  anyway, when he said that, i thought the exact same thing that bob did.  how weird.

  • Who were you trying to kid?  This road trip stuff IS exciting!

Be careful unloading stuff, your hands are too valuable to risk now.

    I think I like Bob.

    L,r

  • i thought about that yesterday when i wore my house shoes and track pants to church

  • wow dude, i love your music. and you obviously know that others do too. please pray for my familly. we are haveing some struggles. i hope your career continues to prosper.

    seth

  • I just love your new CD, btw

  • Wow, Dave, thanks for all you’ve done.  Thanks for the concert at Irving Bible Church,… God has really blessed me through your music.

Thanks for setting up the autographed books too.  you are awesome, and we all (in Texas) love you VERY MUCH!

    Much love,

    Kinz

  • Maybe the scary man needed Jesus…did Bob think about that?

  • i absolutely love Bob’s shirt (and his story) :]   …i have “Undignified” stuck in my head.  I’ll see you on Nov. 5th (in NY)!!  God Bless!!!!

  • hahaha.  your story made me laugh.  and indeed, I will tell my friends, “yeah, the crowder band just started the second leg of their tour. oh. what? you don’t know what “leg” means? ha. how uninformed are you? i am much more informed. wow. i had no idea that i was the superior in this relationship.”

that made me laugh.  go you.  have a nice week!

  • Weow, i liked the bob story, it is stuff like that that encourages all of us.  Sorry about the gear.

I would like to point out that i feel a little uncomfortable leaving a comment on your xanga.  you are famous.  it is not that i feel unworthy, it is just awkward to leave a comment to? on ,? a xanga of a person i have never met.  it must be awkward for fans to talk to you like they know you, very similar to the way i am right now, but i digress, i will see you soon Mr. Crowder

  • haha, thanks for the update david!  hope u guys are well rested (at least more rested than u sound in this post!) for your next “leg” =p

  • Hi… my brother and friends and youth pastor went to help out with you guys today… the guy in the red coat kinda looks like one of tem going.

  • Dude, I know that Bob! He’s awesome!

  • I will be seeing you on Wednesday, and I am oh-so-excited!!! Thanks for posting!

  • Come back to dallas for a suprise show on the end of you’re “second leg”.

    Seriously.

  • I must say I was most pleased to see you had a xanga in your cd booklet, splendid to know you haven’t given into myspace.

  • yeah… this whole picture thing is incredible… dave… you rock… and so does you band… and so does a collision… have fun running those “legs.” still wish you would come to Liberty University!!!!

    peace man,
    -Monte

  • Hey you signed my abs.

  • Wow, you majorly rocked my socks off tonight. Witty, funny, awesome, sweet, cool, motivating, inspirational, thoughtful, truthful, & musically gifted – that describes you & your band, & the performance that ya’ll gave tonight @ the Fellowship of the Woodlands. My small group & I had a blast … I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Thanks for letting us be apart of it. My prayer for you is this: That you may continue to spread GOd’s message to the fullest that you can, for the rest of your life, & that your love to do so in a musical way would never cease. God bless you, Mr. Crowder & Co. :)

  • can’t wait to see you guys in MA at the palladium! I praise God for you guys and how He is using you. rock. on.

  • david crowder is awsome

  • What’re you doing taking pictures? You’ve got work to do! Keep up the good work, chieftan!

  • we’ve been “on” for about 2 years, now. actually…in Christ you’re always kinda “on” dontcha think? the hi-light of our “on” times is the ALIVE festival in canal fulton. the highlight of the ALIVE festival is the diverse multitude in praise & worship (even in the smelly mud pit of 2004).
right now we are doing katrina/rita relief. david, many un-churched and even longtime christians are seeing Him for the first time!
    rock on warrior…

  • 105th comment YEEESSSSSSSSS…bout time for an update…geez, you had 7 days off…haha j/k. Bob’s story made me cry, i’m going to use that as a evangelical message at the next conference haha…j/k again..i love the crowder band..you guys amaze me…or should i say God amazes me as he works through you…hmmm…thats something to ponder.

  • Hey man i think when you guys go to jackson Mississippi this week end you will see one of my best friends named Chris Chrismond… Tell him you told him i said hi :)

  • Hey! I live in Tulsa time! Cheers to you pal! I will be in attendance at your concert tonight sir, so maybe you’ll see me. I’ll probably wear a green shirt.

    Erick

  • im glad the second “LEG” of your tour is going well so far! (look im informed!) i have a question… do you read all of these??? i mean cause thats alot to read… ifyou read all of these would you leave me a comment? that would be swell. what a verry large time to take up just read these though… so i understad if you dont. ok im going to be done talking.

  • Bob rocks my face off! See you guys on Friday in Columbia, SC… I can’t wait! Woohoo!!!!!

  • Infinite props for the tulsa time reference. My granny sent me the Don Williams Millenial Collection this weekend for a belated b-day present. I hear “Lord, I Hope This Day Is Good” and I think of you guys. Enjoy the second leg, and sic ‘em DCB!

  • So I guess that u have had a troubling week.  Talk to me sometime!

  • one time a man walked up to me at church and told me to take my eyebrow rings out. i said, “no way man,” and then i slapped him in the mouth. i slapped him hard dave, we’re talking bleeding gums hard. then i apologized and walked away with my rings in brow. i want you to understand what i did for you at your concert in irving man. i literally split the seas just to get to you. i was in the back of the seating section and said, “heck no, im getting up front.” if you remember, there were about 1435897 people between the seats and the stage. i did what i was instructed to do when you want to get your way, mike beck of all people taught me this trick at a newsboys concert in 97. i acted like i belonged, walked over to side stage, walked onto the stage and planted myself in front of your microphone pissing about 145134 people off in the process. i said, dont worry man, i wont be here for the whole show. then i realized that i couldnt stand up where i was at, because all the people that were in this section were sitting on a raised part of the stage. keep in mind that im 6’3″ and a good 275 lbs. its not easy for me to squeeze this load in between two people. but i did. for you. i sat for the first 2 1/2 songs until my legs were numb with pain. i walked away dave, but i walked away with a smile on my face. i love you man. totally straight too, but i love you. mmmm.

    brian kimball

  • Hey there,

Wow you really do have an interesting time on the road. That is so cool thought that you get to meet so many people. Have a awesome day!

    God Bless ya,

    Jenny C=

Thanks for telling me what a “leg” is. =D

  • I can’t believe I found David Crowder’s blog.  This is nuts.

A few years back I went to DCLA and you were the worship leader, the worship we had there was the most powerful I’ve ever been able to take part in.  One of the kids in our group was named Chris.  Chris wasn’t a christian, but he really wanted to understand what all of it was about.  He had lost his dad just a few months before.  Chris also had luchemia.

Now David, you did more then you can possibly imagine for Chris.  He became a christian at DCLA he prayed with Pastor Luthur and everything, it was absolutly amazing.  From the day we left Washington until about a year ago Chris listened to your music almost 24/7.  His condition unfortunatly just continued to get worse and worse.  Until he finally slipped away from us.  Chris heard Christ through your music right to the end man, your music was the only thing that could make him smile near the end, he couldn’t talk, and he was in constant pain.  But he saw and felt Jesus through you.  Thank you so much for what you showed Chris.

    Tony

  • Dude, your funny. God bless your leg. ummm Well you know what I mean.. That is unless you are uniformed, and if you are then you need to take off you hat and suffer messey hair!

  • I’m growing a Crowder, and think of you when I look in the mirror.

    alyssa

  • hey remember when you stopped the concert in dallas last year because you had to pee, and then crowd-surfed your way to the back to the bathroom? yeah, that was cool.

  • Aw, David took the wrong impression of me when the below happened. I was totally joking, dude. (Red sweater in picture of people unloading.)

“here are people that i don’t know unloading the truck. one of them said, “hey! get to work! isn’t this your gear!?” i said, “sort of. and thanks for helping.” he didn’t look very impressed while i stood there trying to take the picture. even less so when i walked off.”

  • *laughs* That’s actually one of my friends who said “hey! get to work! isn’t this your gear!?” His name’s Adam, black curly hair, green eyes, abysimal sttitude. Don’t worry, he acts like that all the time. He’s really actually a pretty great guy.

  • DW- (sorry can’t forget that since that conference a few years back)

Okay so a group of us saw you guys play last night and it was beautiful.  I never laughed so hard especially when you picked up the keytar (sp?).  So a question I have is this is- that guitar loop thing that you did, with the Tap, Knock, WAA.  Did you really do that or was that Solley doing that.  It was great I just have to know.  I know you are crazy busy but could you please let me know that would be great.  My buddy and I have a bet going on this.

  • Hey Crowder!  I don’t know if you remember this or not, but I saw you a little while back at your concert at Southeast Christian in Louisville, Ky.  When I met you, I told you that my cousin was serving in Iraq and he loves you guys and will be sorry he missed your concert.  Anyway, you spoke to him via the cameracorder, even though you had NEVER met him in your life.  Anyway, I was getting a package ready to send overseas to him and I was including that video and I wanted to THANK YOU again for being so cool and I know that your message will lift his home-sick spirits!  Thanks for being such a rockin’ person!  Keep spreading the word of God in a way that only the DCB can do!  Much love and safe traveling!
