  • it really is just perfect. it’s the most beautiful cemetery i’ve ever been in. i realize it sounds like a juxtaposition to use “beautiful” and “cemetery” so closely but it’s immediately serene; peaceful. just what you’d hope. completely cinematic. the grave itself was a pile of flowers. i had expected to see dirt. that red texas-clay-dirt that i’ve seen covering every other newly covered grave i’ve stood beside. early morning, kids laughing and a mound of flowers. i’m certain the mound of dirt was somewhere under the flowers, but driving up to it it just looked like a 3 foot high pile of flowers, perfectly mirroring the rectangular shape of the hole he is in. i’ve never seen flowers piled 3 feet high in the shape of a rectangle. there were potted flowers that outlined the perimeter of the rectangle and they were all leaned over and inward, none of them sitting up properly, resting against the mound as it rose from the grass. it was so strange, absolutely foreign to look at. the slightest bit unnerving. these flowers leaning against flowers. it gave the appearance that as he went into the ground his beauty had drug all this on top of him. as if you’d spread a cloth over a table that had a rectangular hole cut in it and then placed something with weight over the hole and let go. it would drop past the surface of the table pulling the table cloth through the hole with it as it sank. this is what had happened here over night. the weight of his passing pulled at our surface, and the flowers filled the hole and piled up to keep the world from caving in on itself. it was the weight. i had felt the weight. there were six of us surrounding him, carrying him down the steps, slidding him into the car and it was all impossibly heavy. the flowers didn’t have a choice in the matter. this is where they had to be, they had been pulled by the force of his departure and wanted to be near him and saved us all in the course of their aspired proximity to him. it was beauty summoning beauty and falling, laying on itself until the hole was clogged. grace is a bunch of flowers falling over each other to be near a beauty that is too terrific a weight to keep on the surface for very long. we will miss kyle but we might be ok. for now there is grace enough to keep breathing.

  • there is grace enough to keep LIVING! That’s what I gather from some of your music friend… thank you for being used by the Maker

  • I think I have used that phrase before. “Grace enough to keep breathing…” Weird.

    Your eloquence astounds me, sir.

  • thats beautiful dude.. love you brother

  • My mom is buried there too – by the children playing on their swing set. It’s surreal that there is such life right there…yet so much grace.  We all miss Kyle, and I’m always praying for our church.

  • that was by far the most beautiful thing i have ever read in my entire life

i’m still praying for kyle’s family, everyone who knew him, and UBC.

  • Hey David. I know that you dont know me, but I wanna ask you to pray for me. Im in a praise band, and were just having some troubles. We are arguing over the dumbest things. I know its an attack of the enemy. We just need strength. Thanks,
    Phil

  • His grace is truly enough for us :]

  • wow…..(tears flow)

  • I once heard it said, “Death is not the exstinguishing of the flame, it is turning off the lamp, because the dawn has come.”

  • they say that, it is not the people who die and are in a better place we mourn for…it is ourselves, for having such a great loss….great is our God, that one day we will be united! i can’t wait to meet him, kyle, on the other side…

  • At the end of the day grace is all that really matters.

  • Peace and joy exist in Grace.

    BE blessed!

  • i’m sorry that you are hurting … i can’t even imagine … i sat in silent questioning when i read what happened – and i didn’t even know him … i know in my head that God is sovereign – but i still found my self wondering why? why him? why then? why that way? … thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings about him and life and grace and Jesus – i love to read what you write … you have a wonderful gift – but seeing as you’re in a famous band, i’m sure you already know that! :)   thanks.

  • Grace…it’s a beautiful word, no?

    In Christ,
    ~Zac

  • Prayers and tears and grace go out to you.  These words mean so much to all of us, even if we didn’t know him.  Makes me think of many people we have lost too soon.

  • grace….

    an amazing word…..

    brian

  • gosh i say this time and time again, i love your brain, the way you keep your eyes open to the world and perceive it letting your brain run with praise and everything just getting tied around it in its syllabic form of the words…

    you know?

nonetheless, i hope your hearts are on the mend, definitely thinking of ya’ll of course, you already know this. but i spose its always good to hear again, maybe for a quick smile or two :) ecclesiastes 4:9-12

and your concert i Anderson was teh best.

  • some days we get the blessing of experiencing grace… and other days… enduring it.

praying for you UBC, and The lakes family. Kyle was a great man of God.

  • It is hard to read what you wrote because I feel the weight of your grief in every word.  Thank you for listening to God and thank you for leading us in worship this weekend during the National Youth Workers Convention.

  • goood.

  • my very name is Grace, yet it’s what I have the hardest time receiving from God. I’ve felt like living/receiving grace is my life-wrestle.

Please lift a prayer for me, Mr. DC, that those “new songs” I feel He’s brewing in my heart, I will write and sing with faith… I’ve never done this before, so I’m apprehensive about it. thanks!

  • I feel like I shouldn’t be reading this… it is so beautiful and personal, and brought tears to my eyes remembering the pain of losing someone and imagining what it feels like all over again. makes the fact that youre a musician or famous or whatever really insignificant. you’re are first and foremost a person… and a child of God.

  • Thanks for leading worship at the convention in Nashville. I know all the teens in my group have been impacted by the way you lead worship at conferences and events. Thanks for letting God use you. I am praying for you and your church family!

  • It’s amazing to imagine that his presence was so magnetic that it pulled such beauty to him. My prayers are with your family and his during the holidays.

  • Wow. I just want to say that I’ve only met a handful of people who craft words as beautifully as you do. You make me wish I knew this guy, and I truly am sorry. Just remember to remain the strong man of God you are. It’s natural to be sad, but find the good in it. I want to say just what you wrote in your book, but sadly I don’t have a copy. I really enjoy your music, keep it up.

  • i love you. comment back

  • o wow. what an illustration. thats really very beautiful. i am very sorry for your loss, but isnt it wonderful to kno that he is with our blessed saviour??

  • DC and the band were amazing in Nashville!!   Thank you for giving so much of your time to lead us in worship for the NYWC.  It was an amazing time of the Holy Spirit pouring into my life… i now have so much more to let overflow into the lives of the youth at LBC! (Lenexa Baptist Church)

       Thanks

    <><

    Brad

  • i really appreciate you and the guys coming out to nashville despite everything you are going through.  it meant a lot to us all.

ps:  you should add lasers to your “interests”

  • Wow! Ok. Crystal

  • “we will miss kyle but we might be ok. for now there is grace enough to keep breathing.”

What amazing words. the weight of your grief is present with each sentence you write. your words have brought my grief to the surface, a place were healing can continue… thank you for sharing and giving me… us… permission to be so honest about grieving the loss of someone we love.

  • Just remember bro…it’s not him under there…just a case…He’s rejoicing in the place he’s talked about for so long now…We’ll be there soon…he’s waiting…

  • david,
your posts have been great, and you and yours have been in our prayers.

you need to come up to LVille for the Thanxangiving party.

  • Grace is all we have… thanks be to God.

  • I had to carry my grandma, I know the weight you felt.

  • A friend of mine burried her mom this week.  I’m praying she sees grace in all the places that you’ve been able to.  Thanks for sharing.

  • I think that’s the most awesome blog I’ve ever read, for real. God Bless!

  • you don’t know me, because I’m from OHIO but your songs have lead me closer to are LORD

  • I’ve noticed the grace theme throughout the aftershock/repercussions/etc. It’s cool how God gives things like that. Seeing you notice them reminds me to be on the lookout for them in my own life. :) Praying for you all (you, band, his family, the person he was baptizing, the church…everybody).

  • are you really David Crowder the Christian singer?

    <3 EZDURR

  • i wonder y ppl keep praisin u. they should be givin the glory to God. bless God for blessin u to reach out to others liek me.

  • thank you for sharing such hard and precious moments with us. we are praying for you and everyone at ubc.

  • very beautifully put.

  • oh, how many times i have said this… for now there is grace enough to keep breathing.

    You’re always a blessing.

  •   Hey bro, i saw you in Athens with Robbie and the Shanes on Oct. 31.  Good times..good times…  Yall were great dude. I love the variety of styles. Good stuff dude.

  • I’m very impressed.  Your past few entries have been elegant and poetic depictions of what, in essence, is death.  Yet, you put a rustic luster upon the subject.  It really strikes me at what kind of a writer you are.  Thank you for sharing such beauty.  I am still praying for his family, and you.

    A fellow brother

  • David – Your artistic creativity and love for God is something we all enjoy.  Your music is quality, the lyrics are reality.  Thank you for sharing with us and continuing on even through the trial.  I hope Dove will recognize you guys this year for the amazing album.  Many people are tuning in to its worth.

  • oh my.

what shift did you just manage to create in my soul?

this was gorgeous and profound and inspiring and now i am a pile of ashes because

    this

burned me. in the best possible way. i feel refined.

i hope you don’t mind my subscription.

    mattie.

  • I had a vision once.  A simple white flower, maybe 8 petals symmetrically creating a circle.  A few days later, a group of my friends from high school got together to pray in the middle of the quad.  We got together in a circle and started praying, but during the meeting it started to rain.  It poured.  But we continued praying.  As we uttered our last prayers, we arose, but in astonishment we found a beautiful flower painted right underneath our butts.  The rain had covered every inch of land around us, but missed the area we were sitting in.. creating a symmetrical flower… us being the petals.

God really does see beauty in His children praying.

  • As I read your post, I thought of the disciples.  How they must have longed to be near Christ, after He was taken away like a criminal.  Placed on a cross to die because of hate from their point of view.  How long the three days must have been.  I know with Kyle, the comfort of seeing him again won’t be so soon.  Praying for you and especially Kyle’s family and the great hole you feel.

  • hold on to that grace and know that people all over the place have you and his loved ones in their hearts and prayers.

  • through the quietness of the stone.. and the language of the flowers… and the noises that surround his grave….. blessed be, the name of the LORD.

  • you are amazing!  i loved your concert in kc last week. i was up on the balcony.  it was awesome to see so many christians just worshiping…i think i really needed that.  im keepign you in mind throughout the week.

  • you have a grand heart… one that makes me want to love my friends more like brothers and sisters.. and do my best to assure they love me in that way as well… Christ is healing us all through your words… thank you

  • That sounds tp beautiful!!!Was Kyle a close friend?

  • DAVID CROWDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

prop me back ;]] and ill love you

  • =]

  • You’ve heard this before… thank you for being so transparent. I lost my aunt just a few days ago.. I couldn’t be there but I imagine it would have been just like that…

  • Do you even read these comments?  Probably not.

  • curious. are you really reading those books that the entry declares you are currently reading like saunders and queen mary? what do you think about indecision.

  • remember one day we will all “come awak, from sleep, [and] arise.   [we] were dead [but then we'll] come alive.”

  • funny you should talk about grace…it was the topic of a bible study in one of my classes yesterday, we talked about Romans 6:1-14- amazing passage…btw thank you for your writings and music…I can see God more clearly through them.

  • David, I just want you to know how many people you have touched with your life. Words can’t even begin to describe my gratitude for what you do. My friends and I went to your concert here in Kansas City at MNU and I must tell you that I was blessed beyond belief. Not only was it incredibly fun, but the way you guys pulled the entire crowd into worship was amazing. After the concert, we layed hands on your bus and prayed our guts out for you guys, what you’re going through, and what else God has in store. I don’t say this so I’ll get a pat on the back and the ”great job, you’re a nice person” speach, but to let you know that you touch so many of us every day, and we just feel like we need to give back what we can.

We are blessed so we can bless others

    -Zack Griggs

    landon

  • Grace abides in us gives us life even if we dont believe in Life Everlasting he still gives us the chance day in and day out. it is the starry pleasure of mine to follow Jesus to the grave and now all of the flowers of this world are sad and collapsed on each other to comfort each other. You would be amazed on how just “flowers” leaning on each other can help the other flowers. we are in the field of God and when one of the flowers fade and wilt away its natural for the others to consume the emptiness of the spot somehow that heals.

    Jeremy

  • hello david crowder.

  • Hello there david! Briefly, went to….Release @ UBC, Arlington/Irving show and happy to say, already asked off work for March 4th, nokia theater in arlington w/ mac & crew lol katie mccasland said to say hi! I just found out u knew their family. Small world. Small texas lol c’ya round! HOLLA BACK!

  • Hello David,

Thanks so much for leading us in worship in Toronto! Your humour and ability to awaken us to some extreme lactic-acid-build-up-ing worship is great. Keep up the good work – we love “rock opera”. I thought that you would lead “Wholly Yours” that night, as it would’ve tied nicely with Charlie’s “Center” theme, but it was all good nevertheless :D

“When our depravity meets His divinity, it’s a beautiful collision.” — thanks also for A Collision or (3+4=7). It’s definitely a heart-filled album, and probably the deepest that you’ve ever compiled. Your voice lends so well to the hillbilly/country western music genre :)

Thanks again, keep letting the Holy Spirit work through you and make His name and renown known!

    Take care,
    Chris Luk

  • Sweety, the people on your other site don’t get the whole blog thing, you might want to let them know what is going on. They think you have a twin or something.

  • Well hey David. My name is Chris I am currently going to bible college in the great city of Dallas Tx. My current major is Bible, Youth and Family ministries. Hey just wanted to tell you i think your an awesome performer and I am praying for you and I just want to leave you with my favorite scripture

18I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. 20For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21that[a] the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. Romans 8:18-21

Hey thanks for the music and feel free if you ever do read this post to give me a shout on my xanga or even email  cmonster99@yahoo.com well may God bless you abundently

  • Grace is a beautiful thing beyond our comprehension.

  • HELLO SIR HOW WAS YOUR HOLIDAY?

  • I found God in my sandwhich today….

  • You should write a book. If you already have will you tell me the name and where I can buy it? Please?

  • is this “the david crowder” or is it just coincidental that u have the same name as david crowder as in the david crowder band. well if ur him, u are awesome. i love acoustic guitar, and playing it for jesus’s name, and i learned some of ur music on guitar the other day. well see ya

  • You’re amazing David Crowder. I love it that you love Jesus SOO much! It was crazy hanging out with you at Anderson… ok, well we didn’t really “hang out”, but it was awesome praising God with you! We definately blew off the roof and got a pretty amazing view of that Indiana Sky! “You are my joy, you are my joy, you are my joy, you are my JOOOOY!” woo!

    Lovin’ Jesus style x infinity–Hannah

  • dude it always sucks to lose a loved one.  I might not personaly know you but i will be praying for you and your church.

join up dave, i’ve seen your Taylor on the cd insert of “all i can say”, don’t deny it!

  • your music is an amalgamation of emotions that burst into a thousand ‘hallelujahs’ (i really dont know what amalgamation means but my sister was so kind enough to provide it) …..i was sad though to find that someone stole the radio in my car with your new CD in it…..let the condemnation begin….just kidding i hope through the Grace of the Lord he is saved!

  • Crowder, I just wanted to go ahead and wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!  I know it’s not til tomorrow, but I wanted to make sure I was the first to say it!!  May God bless you so much that it knocks your socks off!!!
    Love ya, man!
    Angela

  • YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I HAV FINALLY FOUND MY FAVORITE BAND LEADER’S XANGA!
PLEASE IF U READ THIS LEAV ME A COMMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why do people treat you as if you were a God you are just another Human Being like us. Sure you do have more money than we do and can sing A LOT!! better than we can but when it really comes down to it we are all on the same level. I am a fan of David Crowder yes I admit this but I do not worship him or when i see him act like I need to get his autograph badly. That’s the only flaw i see in famous people, some use them as Idol’s all i no is DCrowder is just another brother of mine in Christ.

  • I totally didn’t know it was your birthday tomorrow. But HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!
I hope you have the best birthday ever!!
    God Bless, Sara

  •  I wonder if it really is you….. There are a lot of impersonators of you. Because they want to be you. I wish people would worship God instead of man.

  • Hey, I didn’t know it was your birthday tomorrow either! Happy Birthday! Mine is in less than a couple weeks :) I read this entry a couple of days ago, and it is truly beautiful. Artistic, and elegent. I never met him, but I know that I would be pleased to know someone thought so highly of me. It must seem so wrong for such a young man with a family who was such a big part of your life to be gone. And I know it’s cliche, but when my Gramma died, it helped me so much just to think about how happy she was with God. God is… amazing. And he’s standing in God’s presence right now!! how awesome? He is experiencing what we all hope and dream for. And eventually, we will all stand before God’s throne, and see Him with our very eyes, and worship Him as one. How cool? Today I had an amazing time with God while listening to your CD in my car. I hope you don’t mind that I just had to write out the lyrics in my most recent entry. God’s fire is burning in you… and in me. If you read this, I hope it means something. Anyway! A Collision is my “currently listening” on my latest entry if you would care to drop by and see the coolness of it. *Ends extremely long comment*

  • God bless.

    twins

  • I praise God that he’s blessed you with such a gift for leading worship…. I go to creation every year and love worship with you! I love your poeticly humble passion for our awesome God, thanks for being a godly inspiration :)

  • Good stuff David.  My friend just pointed me to your blog today.  BTW – I wrote about your new album about a month ago.  Check it out when you have time.

  • I just wanted to let you know i’m praying for you and his family. We might miss him here on earth, but he his in a much better place than we can ever imagine, with God.

  • If I’m right it is your birthday today, it is my birthday today too. If it is today I hope you have a happy birthday.  I am still praying for all of you.

    God Bless,

    Jennifer

  • If its your Birthday today than HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! My Dad called me when you were leading worship at National Youth Workers Convention in Nashville, TN and I worshiped right there and then too. Thank you for your inspiration! God Bless you always……I LOVE DCB!! “You are my Joy!!!!!”

    Allie

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY! CROWDER! Katie McCasland says to tell u she said so too! Love u man! Keep rockin!

  • your music inspires me

  • you read a whole lot i realize…and i thought youd enjoy the idea that nathaniel hawthorne always used the covering of a grave to represent the inward part of the humans soul at death…flowers=new life and joy…..embrace that man….that those who truly live when they are alive never truly die because of A: their souls placement with Him…and secondly the impact and power they have that lives inside of us…..flowers that never die….thats grace

  • hey,… im sure you get this alot and have tons of fans but i could use some advice,…. Im trying to bring life back into my youth group. I have already started a youth nite that my band plays at but i need something else,… something that will really fill them with the spirit. im not sure what it is exactly, i thought maybe you could help?

  • I was at Kyles grave about a week ago with Jonathan Reynolds…we thought it appropriate that a playground is just across the street.  I didnt know Kyle too well…but I had tears of sadness that the world was losing such an amazing person, and tears of happiness that heaven is gaining one.

the warrior man (fighting the good fight with the good fighters)

  • Too many times we get caught up in the pain of life…the tragedy..the “Job-isms” if you will…as I read your entries I couldn’t help but think what an impact he made on your life…..but Dude Jesus made an even greater impact….Mark Hall asks kids today what is their lifesong…..I ask you what was his lifesong? The definition for worship was given as an instruction from Paul to Timothy….and even more so Job demonstrated Worship after he realized he lost everything….What does it say…its says that Job Praised GOD!!!  You have an impact on alot of people, including me….your impact came from a relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Use his lifesong to bring more to GOD’s Kingdom.  As a Man of GOD…..I ask you to picture the Birthday Celebration in our Home….Can You hear the Angels Rejoice? Can you See GOD Smile, Can you see Jesus at the right hand with arms Spread wide….I can!  GOD is Proud of You…he is proud of Kyle!(that is why he is at home!) Jesus Rocks….I Love You and you have just been prayed for!

To Live is Christ…..To Die is Gain!

    Semper Fidelis

  • Hi. I really don’t know where to start. In your book you said that tragedy will always come and it is inevitable. You go on to say your muscles were turned to liquid, you were left wilted on the floor ….your thoughts dramatically changed. Thank you, David Crowder– for your honesty. You dont’ know how much the talent you have for poetry and prose has worked in my life. God has truly spoken through your words…. your heart is so evident… God is so evident.

    Thanks.

  • Hey…. David Crowder!! THAT”S AWESOME!! WOO HOO!

  • mr. crowder, you’ve been TAGGED. this is a game in my youth group were you have to name off 5 strange things about yourself and name off who tagged you in an entry. you don’t have to play if you don’t want to.

    ~LukE (a fan in ohio)

  • holy freakin crap… are you really david crowder? i love david crowder.  God bless.

  • thanks for allowing God to use you in the simplest of ways

Im grateful… how often times, while listening, how important the “unintelligible” words are.  (Dadeeda Ladada)

The greatest moments on earth are those times when words are totally inadequate… and all you can do is Be Quiet, and as He did, Breathe in deeper.

  • could you please post. THank you!

  • so difficult and weighty. part of our (confident) hope is that on the other side it will seem to have gone by in a blink. but for now, in community we buoy up on His grace…

  • I’m sorry for your loss….

  • i lack the chin or the awesome dark black specs to grow my own crowder…although I’m working on developing a Chia-Crowder though…

You can grow grass in place of his signature goatee??

Oh yeah, that’ll sell well. We can set up a booth at Alive in Canal Fulton and everything!!!

    – jxe.

  • eloquent words man.

  • I just had a really close friend pass away today way before her time. The impact it’s had on me is beyond words but your songs are helping me get through it. God is speaking truth and hope through you. Thanks so much, from now and forever, for allowing yourself to be used by God.

  • PLEASE READ THIS WHOLE POST. IT’S SO DANG TRUE* 1. At least 2 people in this world love you so much they would die for you. 2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way. 3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you. 4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don’t like you. 5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep. 6. You mean the world to someone. 7. If not for you, someone may not be living. 8. You are special and unique. 9. Someone that you don’t even know exists loves you. 10. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it. 11. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take a look: you most likely turned your back on the world. 12. When you think you have no chance of getting what you want, you probably won’t get it, but if you believe in yourself, probably, sooner or later, you will get it. 13. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks. 14. Always tell someone how you feel about them; you will feel much better when they know. 15. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great. Add this as a comment to ten of your friends tonight and at midnight your true love will find you. Something good will happen to you at 2:25 tomorrow. Get ready for the biggest shock of your life. Whoever breaks this chain letter will be cursed with 10 relationship problems for the next ten years tag ur it!! this is so scary!!! send this to 15 ppl in the next 143 min. and then press F6 and your crushes name will appear in big letters!! it is so scary because it works…. but if you break the chain.. you will be cursed w/ relationship problems

  • sorry about your loss. have you ever read a grief observed by c.s.lewis? it clears away alot of thoughts. i pray peace passing understanding is ever abundant

  • “Because I’ll never hold the picture
Of the whole horizon in my view
Because I’ll never rip the night in two
    It makes me wonder
Who am I, Who am I, Who am I
    And great are you”
